5 stars because it's an excellent little hard drive, as Seagate products typically are. However, for buyer research, I want to expand on a question regarding compatibility with iPad, and echo what I've written in the Q&A:All answers in the Q&A section say that it's not compatible with iPad, but in my experience, it works just fine with my 3rd Gen iPad Pro (USB-C*) if the drive is formatted in either exFAT or Mac OS Extended Journaled (both in GUID partition).*An iPad with a Lightning connector would likely require the use of Apple's Lightning to USB Camera AdapterHowever the one caveat is that I can't get the iPad to recognize it if it's encrypted. When formatted in Mac OS Extended Journaled Encrypted, the drive would power on, but it would not be recognized by the iPad in the Files app. My SSD and USB flash drive work fine formatted in APFS Encrypted, but APFS is not recommended for hard disks. Therefore, if you want to use this drive with encryption, format it in Mac OS Extended Journaled Encrypted and use it with a Mac. But if you want something encrypted for direct use with your iPad, use a flash drive or an external SSD and use APFS Encrypted.Otherwise, this is a fine hard disk drive all around and will see use as a compact backup for the iPad's flash drive and other personal files (using a Mac for file management).

Overall, I'm satisfied with this portable hard drive. It's actually smaller than I expected, barely as big as a typical smartphone! In hindsight, I think I should have gone with a larger storage size, but I can always buy another.I bought this portable HD for storing a digital movie collection and backing up files from my desktop PC. So far, it works as intended, but I've had an issue with my PC not being able to read the file properties from my movie collection. When I attempted to view the collection in the Movies & TV app in WIndows 10, sometimes the length of the movies and thumbnails would not display. I thought the cause of this problem was due to the portable HD being formatted in the exfat file system. It was also originally formatted with 128k allocation unit, which is fine for very large files like movies and music, but it actually causes smaller files like PDFs, photos and office documents to be much larger in size. I recommend reformatting depending on your needs.I've only had it for about a month, so I cannot comment on long-term reliability. However, I have an older desktop Seagate external HD that is nearly 15 years old and still working, so I know they make quality products.

I brought this for xbox 1 external storage, not going to lie I was concerned that it wouldn't be compatible, but it is. Dead simple to format to the xbox even I could do it without any instructions or referral to Google! Only issues I have incurred is with my actual box needing a cold reset because Noxi (console nickname) was being obnoxious and not loading up my game library. I have even added on backwards compatible games too with absolutely zero issues. I am yet to see if I can transfer my games from Noxi onto the Seagate, which can be personally named upto 30 something characters. It is very hard to fill I've so far used 15.9% of 4TB which is (if I remember correctly) 14 games, this is with 9% being pre used. I would definitely recommend buying this over ... MoreI brought this for xbox 1 external storage, not going to lie I was concerned that it wouldn't be compatible, but it is. I use SSDs for editing but archive raw video and projects on HDDs. I've had great success and no problem from more than 15 years of hard drives. These, not so much. I bought two, one didn't work and one was unbelievably slow.I could not transfer files to the first, even after reformatting it. Brick. The second took 6 hours to transfer 120G of files, often dipping below 1MB/s (topping out at 10Mb/s occasionally) I understand that HDDs are much slower than their solid state counterparts, but this is really bad. This makes me uncomfortable about the reliability of them.I see a lot of good reviews and have had success with WD in the past. So, like the review title suggests, maybe I got a bad batch.
My MacBook Pro needed work on the software. Read reviews carefully and chose this external hard drive and downloaded everything exactly as advised (with Mac's Time Machine). When my Mac was ready I used the HDD to transfer my documents etc back..and there it was not! The Home Essentials Direct tech expert couldn't help, but promised to call back the next week (it was Friday and she did call back). Too worried about my files I called my son, a tech expert. ""use Time Machine to open the HDD"", he said. I did, and there it all was. Panic over. I do feel though, that this information should be readily available in the instructions or with Home Essentials Direct's experts. The lady I spoke to did her best though.
Seems like it'll be all I wanted and more once it is formatted for use with Windows. Having paid for 2 TB I think Seagate could at least send this drive to customers along with instructions about formatting to the correct partition style. Instead they leave ya confused as to why your new drive is showing up with just 1 TB. "Setup is simple and straightforward; simply connect a single USB cable and you are ready to go. The drive is powered from the USB cable, so there is no need for an external power supply. Plus, it is automatically recognized by the Windows or Mac operating system, so there is no software to install and nothing to configure. Saving files is easy - simply drag-and-drop." Yeahh this is misleading. Don't be like me. Make sure to format your drives ... MoreSeems like it'll be all I wanted and more once it is formatted for use with Windows. I have been using eight of these drives for Time Machine backups over the past 2 years and they have worked very well. Unlike other 2TB drives, these drives provide a maximum transfer rate in Time Machine of about 100-120MB/s, which, compared to the slowest of similar drives, is 2x faster. This is with a 2015 MacBook Pro, using the drive on the MBP's USB 3.0 ports, backing up the internal SSD.If you need a 2TB drive purposed as a backup medium, these drives are the best I have found, and of the eight that I have been using over the past 2 years, none have failed. I highly recommend them and have bought a few more very recently.
Hi, I was looking for Seagates STLH2000400, as it had a USB C connection. No-one, not anywhere had any stock. Not even the competition. Ive had to settle for STKM2000400 which is a USB A only connection. The only difference to me is the connection cable and not using another dongle in between. As I am a Mac user with only USB C connection. As usual the Seagate Drives are well constructed and have access to a 3 year warranty. My family has a few other Seagate HDs for work and back up of photo albums. Never has these drives failed.Thnx
I got this disk to accompany my Grundig TV as it needs an external USB disk for storage and time transfer functions. The disk itself is perfectly fine and functional, but it was formatted for the exFAT file system when it was delivered, which was not recognized by the TV's operating system. The TV instruction manual advised that the deposit and time transfer work best when the disk is formatted with the TV's software to the FAT32 file system. This was done, and the result was a huge number of errors on the disk, and the operation of the TV became quite unstable. The disk was formatted once again on the computer to the NTFS file system, and after that everything works fine.
When I decided that I needed another external drive, I went looking for a Seagate that was similar to the one I've been using for the past three or four years. It's even better now than it was before. Development has led to it being smaller, thinner and lighter; it's now smaller than my Galaxy S9+. Performance has been excellent thus far, its speed is more than fast enough for me.Excellent price. Sure, I could have bought it for less online, but it's worth paying a little more knowing that, in the event of any issues, no packaging, shipping and time delays, I can simply walk into Office Works and get it dealt with on the spot.First time using Office Works delivery service. Smooth and fast process, from beginning to end.I highly recommend, both the Seagate ... MoreWhen I decided that I needed another external drive, I went looking for a Seagate that was similar to the one I've been using for the past three or four years. It's even better now than it was before.
