The drive itself is fine, passes all tests and functions as one would expect, it's just naturally noisier than one would expect. Also, when it arrived, like the one I sent back to the seller originally, it had problems with vibration so I had to add rubber shock absorbers and rubber bands to reduce vibration to hopefully solve the issues in the case. Obviously I solved my issues with vibration but not noise. Under load, you can't help but know the drive is running. It should be said it makes "normal hard drive noises" but it is quite loud. I'm still giving it the benefit of the doubt but this review could change at any point in the future...

Pros: So far no issues though had the drive for a couple of weeks, easy to install and use in Ubuntu.Good value for the price and not a shingled drive like some of the WD Red which is also a bonus according to those people who know these technical issues.Cons: Speed is always a problem with mechanical drives, compared to SSD.However the price difference and capacity of space is why I dont have a shed load of SSD's running my NAS.

Cons: Setting up installation process grim. No tech support by phone from Box or Synology which is appalling. Have returned items.

Pros: Good product and price, delivered quickly and well packaged with good communications on progress.Cons: Appears to be slightly more noisy than expected but ok.
Pros: Low noise and works fine. Have in a NAS on my deskCons: Only had few weeks, can't think of anything to improve
According to CrystalDiskMark, it's not particularly fast, but I bought it for capacity not speed, so it's OK. I also imagine that it will be reliable, but time will tell! Here are the CDM results on an empty disk. Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 237.569 MB/s Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 226.855 MB/s Random Read 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 0.928 MB/s [ 226.6 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 3.121 MB/s [ 762.0 IOPS] Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 0.918 MB/s [ 224.1 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 3.320 MB/s [ 810.5 IOPS] Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 0.877 MB/s [ 214.1 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 3.144 MB/s [ 767.6 IOPS]
Pros: Great drive, very fast transfer speeds in both read and write and cost effective for the capacity.Cons: Enterprise/NAS drives are much louder than standard consumer drives which can be a small annoyance when installed in a desktop computer. However this is a trade off for the capacity and performance.
Pros: Seagate Hard Drives, the best option in my opinion. Reliability, performance and quality are fantastic.
Pros: Ability to get up and running fairly quickly and easily but takes a while longer to understand and set up more complex reqiuerements.Cons: CPU processor for DS218 is underpowered for video resulting in juddery playback on some videos.
Pros: NAS seems faster to me than previous 5TB Red (but then again maybe I'm just wishing it to be faster). Its fast, huge and should be reliable. Oh and it's a disk drive, what else do you want ?Cons: 10TB still too expensive for an amateur but 8TB coming down in price as these things always do (early 2017). Had to doctor my Synology NAS disk tray to accommodate the drive - the central screw hole + certain indentations required by the disk tray are missing on this (super high capacity) disk design. After removal of the tray lugs there are now just 4 screw mounting points albeit they have high quality rubber shock absorbers. All seems secure but disk mounting is important in a high capacity NAS. Easy enough to fix but if you're less mechanically minded then this ... MorePros: NAS seems faster to me than previous 5TB Red (but then again maybe I'm just wishing it to be faster).
