Bought four of these for a Unifi UNVR as the price was good. I did not check for SMR as this is marketed as a surveillance drive. Sluggish performance and, after 10 months of uage, two drives have failed in the last three months. I expect the others to die soon.Go for CMR instead.

Bought 7 of these bad boys to install into my UNVR-PRO. Ubiquiti recommends you use CMR Drives with a maximum size capacity of 8TB per drive(At the time of my posting this). I'm not saying you can't get bigger drives but I just went with Ubiquiti's recommendation. 7 x 8TB = 56TB. 56TB + RAID5 = 47.8 TB Usable reported on my NVR. Running x9 G4 Pro cameras at 4k and recording goes back around 9 weeks.

I can confirm that this Seagate Skyhawk AI 16TB HDD works with the UDM Pro. All I did was backup my protect configuration, power down the UDM Pro, swap the hard drive, and power up the UDM Pro. It was instantly recognized. I reimported back my configuration and set my views again and I was done. Easy peasy! My smart detections are very smooth now with this HDD. High recommend!

I wouldn't have believed it until I heard them. I installed two (2) 8TB Skyhawk AI drives in my NVR and, to the ear, it is half the noise. If you must work in an area with an NVR I would highly recommend these as replacement HDD's. No, I don't have a meter to tell you exactly the noise level but my ears appreciate noticeably less noise. UPDATE: Well the quiet didn't last. They are now just as loud as the other Seagate drives.

Jack's review of SKYHAWK 2TB SURVEILLANCE 3.5IN 6GB/S SATA 64MB
23 September 2022

Pros: Great drive, very fast transfer speeds in both read and write and cost effective for the capacity.Cons: Enterprise/NAS drives are much louder than standard consumer drives which can be a small annoyance when installed in a desktop computer. However this is a trade off for the capacity and performance.

Pros: Seagate Hard Drives, the best option in my opinion. Reliability, performance and quality are fantastic.

Pros: Ability to get up and running fairly quickly and easily but takes a while longer to understand and set up more complex reqiuerements.Cons: CPU processor for DS218 is underpowered for video resulting in juddery playback on some videos.

Noisy, but great performance
2 January 2022

Installed this in an older Core i7 tower to record security cameras with TrueNAS. After running exclusively SSDs for so long, this is a noisy drive, but it's working very well. Several high-bitrate cameras are recording to it simultaneously without write issues. It struggles to read the recorded data while it continues to record the camera feeds, but that's expected given the number of cameras I'm sending to a single drive right now.

Pros: NAS seems faster to me than previous 5TB Red (but then again maybe I'm just wishing it to be faster). Its fast, huge and should be reliable. Oh and it's a disk drive, what else do you want ?Cons: 10TB still too expensive for an amateur but 8TB coming down in price as these things always do (early 2017). Had to doctor my Synology NAS disk tray to accommodate the drive - the central screw hole + certain indentations required by the disk tray are missing on this (super high capacity) disk design. After removal of the tray lugs there are now just 4 screw mounting points albeit they have high quality rubber shock absorbers. All seems secure but disk mounting is important in a high capacity NAS. Easy enough to fix but if you're less mechanically minded then this ... MorePros: NAS seems faster to me than previous 5TB Red (but then again maybe I'm just wishing it to be faster).
