I picked this up after also acquiring the SPB123J from Starbuy. The black dial and shark tooth indices gives this one a more sporty feel when compared to the other 2020 models. The dial has just a slight sheen and a very fine textured finish as opposed to the sunburst effect on the others. The cathedral hands give it a wonderful touch of nostalgia too. The polishing and brushing on the case is very well done. The rotating compass bezel is not likely to be used for actual navigation but it does look rather nice nevertheless.Having now made a couple of purchases from Starbuy I can say I will definitely do so again in future. It has been quick, easy and trouble free every time.

The SPB117J is a beautiful little watch with just a little bit of that Alpinist quirkiness. I've put it on a Colareb Venezia for that rugged outdoorsy look.It is a great watch which I recommend, BUT it ain't perfect by any stretch. The compass is misaligned, which seems to be a trademark of the Alpinist! It's not too bad and not an issue because the compass doesn't stay in one spot for more than a moment, another trademark! The crowns are both unsigned which makes them feel cheap, but there are two of them and that's cool. The movement was spot on accurate when I got it but has started drifting. I knew this about the 6R35 so I'm not fussed, but compared with a Hamilton (for example) using the upgraded 2824, the 6R35 is rather sloppy! But all these things don't ... MoreThe SPB117J is a beautiful little watch with just a little bit of that Alpinist quirkiness. It's an Alpinist and I embrace these quirks, but for the sake of educating potential buyers I must mention them. If you are aware of these imperfections but don't care, then you'll love this watch. But the one thing I am forced to accept, but hate, is that awful Prospex X! Why Seiko, why?PS my experience with StarBuy was perfect 💯

Excellent quality. Love every property of this watch. Strong character, including bursting green color, embossed hour marks/digits, highly polished steel, a compass feature and a long Alpinist history. Bought it at a good price $749. Wonderful service from Starbuy. I asked for an expedited delivery to West Coast and they did. Thank you.

Fast delivery well done Starbuy. I saved a year to buy this & I'm not very happy with it. I should have done my homework a bit better as the watch is really a pretty dainty dress watch not an everyday wearer for a worker, swimmer, bike rider, gym type of guy. No reviewers mention it but it is more of a ladies watch as it's smaller than the photos & on line reviews indicate. IMHO the case needs a beefier more protected & manly presence. Shame I will have to change the band as it is very stiff & annoying on the wrist. More needless expense which should not be in a watch of this price range Seiko must know about this as nearly every reviewer I read on line & YouTube complains about it. Pick up your game Seiko, I should have bought a Citizen. Other than this it keeps ... MoreFast delivery well done Starbuy. I saved a year to buy this & I'm not very happy with it. Firstly - Starbuy is excellent and the watch shipped really quickly despite Covid lock downs and the works. Very happy there. The watch itself is only 4 stars. It's beautiful to be sure but there are a few things to note.First, the dial isn't as black as it appears in the pictures, it's more of a dark grey. It still looks great, but be aware.Second, the North and South do not align on the compass if you line up North with the 12 oclock marker, the South is clearly out. I believe this is because of the way the compass works mechanically and you'll see what i mean when you move it around yourself.Third, the compass can't be locked, so if you were to use it practically in real life you might find yourself heading the wrong way when it moves on it's own to a ... MoreFirstly - Starbuy is excellent and the watch shipped really quickly despite Covid lock downs and the works. The crown for the compass is really smooth and nice, but moves easily on your wrist.Despite the cons it's beautiful, and the bracelet is a cut above your average Seiko bracelet, with a milled clasp - it has very little micro adjustment, so keep that in mind.
I really like this watch. The lovely green dial and the gold cathedral hands really complement it and give an elegant look for what is really a sports watch. I fall in to the category of a fan of the cyclops. It does exactly what it is supposed to and makes reading the date possible for my old eyes and probably one of the best implemented in my watch collection! Mine is running well at -7 sec/day, and with the upgraded power reserve of 70h you can put it down for the weekend and it will still be running on Monday. I have used the old trick of finding north with my watch a few times and if this is something that attracts you then the rotating internal compass bezel may be helpful, but really it’s more of a nod to the history of this model, being designed for alpine ... MoreI really like this watch. The Starbuy daily special price was the cheapest I have seen for a new Alpinist anywhere and their service was efficient as always. It was the first time I have received the manual as a electronic PDF separately which I understand is a now Seiko standard practice and fine with me. PS I made the mistake of redirecting the delivery to an Auspost parcel locker which caused considerable delay and it took 2 weeks to arrive-beware!
There's a reason this watch is considered a classic (well, based on a classic). It wears really well and the green dial is just gorgeous to look at. It wears a lot smaller than it looks, and whilst some dislike the cyclops date reader, I think it's good. Makes reading the date really easy. If you're looking for something that can wear well with any outfit, this watch is it. It can be extremely casual if you pair it with a nato strap/suede strap, or keep it classy with leather. The possibilities really are limited by your own imagination. This is going to the collection as a forever watch - meaning I have no intentions of selling it in the future.
Probably the most underrated aplinist out there in my opinion. Being overshadowed by the spb119j (white dial) and the spb121j (green dial). I like the minimalist nature of the black dial, with hints of red (which is controversial with this piece) and I'm also a huge fan of the Cyclops over the date function (again also controversial). Over all a super functional and versatile watch I can use for hikes to formal events.
I selected a photo 3 times, for whatever reason it will not load here...I would rather try a watch on in store, but my First Class Watch experience was good.I ordered a European Alpinist which for Seiko is a little better than their lower priced options. One micro adjustment is not great, after sizing, it is either too big or a little too snug for me, hopefully it'll be fine or it will be another sold at a loss!A 15% discount was nice, I buy quite a few watches and considering the mark up on watches I'd always expect a discount except on a 'hot watch'.Ultimately I'd buy from FCW again, and I will buy Seiko as a brand until their pricing gets silly. The Alpinist is a nice, unusual day to day casual wear. I would have liked signed crowns, the exhibition back is a bit pointless with a bracelet and without it could have been slimmer and a better fit to the wrist. The inner compass bezel is a conversation piece, but little more. All in all I'd give the watch 4/5 and pricing 3/5. Better than the average Seiko, but priced accordingly at £690 (without discount).
Starbuy is great and this dealer has some amazing prices and great watches.I’d been eyeing this watch for a long time and was grateful for the email when it was back in stock. Great watchMy only issue was the lack of updates for delivery. I’m aware that this is not due to starbuy but the courier used but that was my only issue
