Seiko Watch Automatic 'ALPINIST' Prospex SPB210J1

I own probably a dozen Seiko watches (crazy I know) & was going to go for a Grand Seiko but then saw this and at the price it’s fab . If I have just one very small complaint it’s the string effect on the leather strap it slightly distracts the eye on what is otherwise a very nice piece. But being a Seiko it will run perfectly for years to come.

A great watch with loads of character.

I decided a while ago to add a Seiko to my small watch collection. After much debate I went for this limited edition Seiko Alpinist. I have one dive watch and one chronograph, so fancied something a bit different. I think this is a great looking and stylish watch. The grey dial and red accents on the compass work well with the silver cathedral hand set. The size is fantastic. Most wrist could wear this and it would look great. For me , 40mm is an ideal watch size for most wrists and Seiko are always canny with their lug to lug measurements. Theres not much out there like it and that appeals to me. I like the dial colour and the accents of colour on this European only limited edition dial. The Lume is decent and accuracy is fine, but not up to the METAS chronometer standard of my diver. The watch gets a lot of complements. Im not a big fan of the green Alpinist personally, and this one appealed more than the 2020 edition as I have a blue diaper watch already. . I think the 200 meters of water resistance and diashock technology on the movement (the newer 6R35) make this a robust watch that works as well in the office as it does on a night out. Value is a subjective thing and there are lots of great watches at this price point both new and used. For me, the Seiko Alpinist SPB201J1 ticked all the boxes. Im not interested in whether is will accrue value as a limited edition, but knowing there are only 2021 of these available does add to the watchs appeal to me. As with all my watches, it will be worn and enjoyed.
