Open the door on self kindness and self compassion and you open the door to true love. You will find love of yourself and love of others as well. The reason this book did not receive 5 stars is because it frequently directed you to websites which I found bothersome as I believe the author could have included the material into the book.

An excellent insight into the power that comes from the understanding and implementation of Self Compassion. Highly recommended
The book is very interesting and helpful. It helps you understand your self more especially if you have a low self esteem.
Brilliant book! I use it to inform my trauma practice with clients. Great use of tools also. I forgot my previous book in another county and had to order it again!- was absolutely that compelling :)
I find self-help books are inherently a mixed bag and what is helpful to one reader is not so for another. Personally I often find the authors' anecdotes, both personal and about their clients, have little resemblance to my own life situation. This book by Kristin Neff has been one of the more useful ones I have read. She promotes self-compassion as a healthier approach to life than self-esteem. I found Neff's stories quite relatable and the thought exercises she suggests had me thinking outside the box and considering how well (or badly) I have treated myself at times. Some of the exercises are ones you do yourself, others require you to listen to guided meditations on her website.Overall I found this book a soothing, helpful and thoughtful read. My only ... My only criticisms would be that Neff spends too much time defining self-compassion and describing the studies of it and how it can help. This leaves less space to actually discuss how you develop it. The tone and writing style of the book is quite accessible but I suspect it was aimed more at female readers. That said, I am a man and still found it a helpful book.
This book shares some really insightful concepts that could prove helpful for anyone who has struggled with being habitually and repeatedly too hard on them self for years on end: leading to depression, anger and self destructive behaviors. I wouldn't call it easy-reading, but it's worth working through. You'll probably want to revisit it in the future, as well, to freshen the concepts in your mind and make them more actionable.
Self-compassion - who knew!! And nice to know the author writes from her own experience as well as years of learning on the subject. A book everyone should be aware of - especially those with a self-critique and problem solver in their heads. How to give yourself a hug and receive oxytocin (makes you feel happy) - didn't know that either. Love this book - along with Ho'oponopono and the Precious Present books - Brilliant
Great book, for dealing with your insecurites. Easy to read. The greatest project you'll ever work on is yourself after all.
