Sennelier Wooden Box 36 Basic Oil Paint Sticks In 1949, the painter Henri Goetz asked Henri Sennelier to develop a new material for his friend Pablo Picasso who was looking for a colored wax chalk. The “Sennelier Oil Pastel” was born from that collaboration. Over the decades, this range has been enriched with metallic colours, iridescent nuances, and some thirty new base colours. Beyond the classic nuances, it also includes unique tones and particularly a gradient of gray, necessary for a balanced palette. This evolution is the result of a long-term collaboration with European and North American painters who worked with our company to create a palette of exceptional tones. Sennelier Oil Pastel is a product that reuses the components used in all Sennelier colours: high-quality pigments, a very pure synthetic binder and a mineral wax. The pigments are ground with an inert, non-drying binder that does not oxidize and will not have any effect on the life of the film or supports. This base is then mixed with wax (neutral pH). The balance of this mixture gives Sennelier oil pastel a peculiar smoothness, and a creamy texture that allows great freedom of pictorial expression. Sennelier oil pastels have an exceptional pigment concentration that gives them great tinting and hiding power, great vibrancy of tones, and very good lightfastness (except for metallic and fluorescent inks).
