I’ve used these for four years and I’m still in love with them. I keep them on my desk and use them everyday. They sound so good for the price point. I really like the open aire feature and now I enjoy them even more than the closed back headphones (my husband owns that version). I like that I can still hear my surroundings if I need to but music sounds very crisp.

The Open-Aire design is fantastic for those wanting to still be able to hear their surroundings as opposed to closing off outside sound. This design also causes the sound to feel more natural and almost as if the sounds are coming from all around you as opposed to being pumped into your ear straight from a speaker. They are also insanely comfortable, as i use them for very long gaming or working sessions.

Love these headphones. The sound quality is fantastic, I am a classical musician and love using them to listen to symphonies so I can clearly hear all of the different instruments and details. They are also very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The outside lining of the ear cushion is starting to rub away but I have had them for years so that is probably expected!

Love these headphones. The sound quality is fantastic, I am a classical musician and love using them to listen to symphonies so I can clearly hear all of the different instruments and details. These are the only headphones I have used for the last 7 years straight! All day ling for every audio application. They are spot on! Sound is luscious and supreme. Cloud like in your ears. You can still hear your natural surroundings too, and sometimes they can hear you! Classic!

Audio products are highly subjective to personal experience and are often hyped. These are my first pair of Sennheisers (so haven't experienced senn's signature sound ) and I don't rate myself as a audiophile. To my ears they sound above mediocre maybe because of the hype they surrounded. I would recommend these to someone who has not heard hi resolution sound or to someone who found these on great discount like me. Won't recommend for serious music listening.
These Sennheiser headphones are replacing my 12 year old pair. I felt a need to upgrade and chose these because I liked my old headphones so much. These are even better for listening to any music source: CD's, Records or FM broadcasts. I listen a lot and these headphones deliver a high quality sound ...open soundstage and not too much bass. The are always comfortable no matter how long I listen. I got these at a great price on E-Bay and am totally happy with them. I've always liked this brand and am also currently using Sennheiser microphones on my once weekly progressive rock radio show on the local NPR station in my city. I would recommend these headphones to any casual or serious listener.
I had the 650's before these, and I loved those. I regretted selling them. Just browsing, I came across these at a fraction of the price of the 650's. Read the reviews. Watched the youtubers etc. All gave excellent reviews. Took an informed punt and so pleased I did. These are open back. All plastic build, but good quality and feel light. Clamp on head at first, but left over the chair arm all week, they feel spot on now. Same velour ear cushions as 650's and velour headband which is also comfortable. No pressure on the top of my head. Only one very long lead, but my ATH M50X short lead fits too. Now for the sound. I'm not going to go into technical audiophile lingo. Simple and easy to understand. Vocals are not bright, but soft and very forward. Higher volumes do tend to reveal some grainy details to some vocals, but recording quality dependant. The bass is stronger, puncher and for me, more satisfying than the 650's. The lower bass is there, but not as defining as the mid bass. It's nothing near the teeth shattering artificial bass of Skullcandy crushers, but I also have the ANC's for "fun" and travelling sometimes. However, the overall sound of the 558's is so moorish......you just dont want to take them off. No fatigue or discomfort experienced at all. I listen to dance, R&B, electro, rock and jazz. These 558's are a pleasure to use with any of those genre's. I'm hooked up to a little dot Mk5, dual mono solid state amp. Pure bliss. These headphones do need a decent amp to get the best out of them. For the price, if you can still find them new, boxed and sealed. GRAB THEM!
I currently use the 558's at work. Great clear sound. One of the most comfortable pairs of headphones I have used. The cable can be removed and replaced which is fantastic as generally when headphones break... Its the cable wiring that goes first. Only issue I have with them - everyone can hear what you are listening to. Great for listening to your fav tunes at home. Not so good on public transport / anywhere random people may get annoyed at your taste of music!I have this pair of headphones in White (I used to have a Razor Kraken) and they are by far one of the best pairs of headphones I have owned. I have been a Sennheiser customer for nearly 8 years and this particular pair of headphones are everything they were promised to be. My old pair of phones (HD555's) lasted me for 6 years of travel and rough ware. My old headphones are built relatively similar to the HD 558's. At first I was a little off put with the longer cord, but I learned to embrace the freedom the cord offered. I have already noticed the level of ease that parts can be replaced on these phones and it should make for easy repair in the worst case scenario. If you're interested in a very sleek, high quality sound pair of headphones you cannot go wrong with the HD 558's. I recommend these phones to anyone interested in listening/playing music, gaming, or simply having amazing headphones.
