Coming from a Samson SR 850 and a OneOdio Studio Pro 50, I wanted to upgrade to something from the 600 series, more so after listening to it at headphone connect, Delhi. At the price of 25k, the 650 has the legendary 600 series vocals. I discovered the nuances of the totality of Hendrix's voice in All along the watchtower which I hadn't before. Same for Ben E King in Stand by me.The bass is very good, not earth shattering. It makes it's presence felt when it is supposed to. A shade less than my OneOdio cans. The treble is detailed but not fatiguing at all. I can listen to these for hours. Keep in mind, I am running these off my laptop as of now and plan to get a hip dac 2 sometime in the future. The clamping force does reduce after a few hours and they'll be among the most comfortable headphones in your collection. Grab these while you still can at this price

I thought I had a pretty good set of headphones. A good name brand, moderately priced with good reviews. Lately they've seemed a bit "shrill" and I cannot explain why. But rather than mess with them, I saw the sale item for these Sennheiser headphones and thought it might be worth a try, given their good reviews.....and the attractive price!I was very pleasantly surprised! No more shrill highs but no loss in detail and improved bass response. I thought they were terrific. As an interesting data point, my wife who has quite significant hearing loss asked how I like them. I offered them to her to see what she thought. We did have to raise the volume just a little bit but she was very pleased. I put on a few of her favorite selections and she said she had never heard ... The individual calibration works great, it changes the perceived sound quite a lot from the original, audio-wise it's not even close to the Generic calibration for the ATH-M50x headphones but visually you can see that each graph is following the trends of "average" calibration but with detailed adjustments. I still have to compare them with other valid systems for a more in depth opinion. I also have the HD-650 with individual calibration however I didn't have time to compare them. I use open backs when at home and the closed backs when travelling.

Where do I start ? Well, let's talk about the moment I received them. The packaging, as usual, was world-class. Tight plastic bag , then additional bubblewrap, and finally, the box itself. Not a dent or scratch - excellent! It shows how much care the Headphonezone Team take in their work. Kudos for that ! The next really pleasant surprise was that they are made in Ireland. I expected a unit from Romania, but this really made me smile. After all, the flagship HD800s is manufactured in Ireland too, so no worries about the quality. About that - I read ridiculous comments online stating that the build quality is cheap - what a joke ! Everything about this unit SCREAMS premium quality. About that - I read ridiculous comments online stating that the build quality is cheap - what a joke ! Everything about this unit SCREAMS premium quality. I did not find the clamping force too tight either. The kevlar cable feels solid and the adapter to the 3.5 mm jack is top notch too. Now , to the most important part - the sound :These cans have a legendary reputation , and for good reason. They are incredibly resolving and the better your source gear, the better they sound. When I listen to 16/24 bit files on my Sony NW 45, I connect them to my good old ART Headamp Pro which can drive them well. But, as I am the old-fashioned type who still listens to cd's , my Sony blu - ray player connected to a Denon AV receiver is my main audio gear. Needless to say, the sound from cd's is fantastic. I know that Sennheiser tweaks their headphones from time to time. In my case, I really did not hear any of the famed " Sennheiser Veil" . Everything is crystal clear and detailed, and the treble is not recessed - it's just perfect. And mind you, my go-to drivers for the last three years have been the Beyerdynamic DT 990 pros, which can be really be painful if you listen to harshly mastered, trebly recordings. The HD650 does not completely smoothen the rough edges of a bad recording as many claim - it just makes them more tolerable, but you still realise that you are listening to a highly compressed, badly mastered recording. THAT is what makes them reference cans. Case in point - Sia's album This is Acting sounds terrible both on cd as well as the 24/96 bit hi-res version. Same goes for Lady Gaga's Born this Way. The Sennheisers make these albums sound "decent" at best, while they are unlistenable on the DT990's. It is funny that as more and more sophisticated audiophile headphones are introduced into the market, the quality of recorded music keeps getting worse and worse. So, the bottom line is - these are headphones that sound as good as the source gear and the quality of music you play with them. An honest, incredibly detailed presentation with a wide soundstage, that in my case, did not sound that dark or veiled. You can definitely splurge on more expensive gear, but then the law of diminishing returns kicks in. I , for one , am incredibly happy with them. And yes, they sound great with movies too - I watched the 2012 dvd with them last night and man, they blew me away with their realistic earth-shattering bass !So that's it from me, folks. And yes, a thousand thanks to the Headphonezone Team for bringing this gem to India at such an incredible price. We audiophiles are forever indebted to you, you are simply amazing !
The difference in audio quality between untuned and tuned is staggering, and even between the average calibration and the individual calibration. The only critiques I have are with the headphones themselves, they have a tighter soundstage than I’m used to, but very clear bass and sub bass which is excellent for electronic music production. If you’re getting these expecting to be able to use them without an amplifier however, maybe you’re thinking the same as me: “I’ll just turn my computer volume up high!” Be aware that SoundID decreases your volume to help reduce distortion, and these headphones already require a good amount of power to work. You’ll definitely need at least a small amp to run them optimally.
Having purchased my last new pair of headphones (Sennheiser HD420s) back in the early 1980s I decided that it was time to source something a little more modern. My instincts were to check out what might be suitable but I always find myself drawn towards Sennheiser. I had seen several reviews of this item and was surprised to note that many reviewers considered the HD650s as good as, or even superior to, Sennheisers more recent and more expensive offerings so I decided to take a risk on a supposed opened but unused set, at considerably lower cost than a sealed box direct from a retailer. In the past I was always concerned that the HD420s lacked bass, although they were otherwise quite alright but times do of course change and technology has been known to improve too. ... MoreHaving purchased my last new pair of headphones (Sennheiser HD420s) back in the early 1980s I decided that it was time to source something a little more modern. In the past I was always concerned that the HD420s lacked bass, although they were otherwise quite alright but times do of course change and technology has been known to improve too. Happily, lack of bass is not a problem with the HD650s as they dig quite deeply into the lower octaves, bass is revealed when it is present and comes in with quite a kick at times. Very unlike the HD420s. I also have an old pair of HD490s that I picked up second hand many years ago and these too have bass, but the general sound is rather muddy and bass cut from the amplifier is certainly necessary. No such problem with the HD650s, everything comes over loud and very clear and we have all heard the old the old chestnut "hearing things that I haven't heard before" but in this case that it is completely true. I am only left to wonder what on earth must a very expensive pair of headphones sound like? As far as comfort is concerned, it took only a few hours for the initial tightness to ease and they are now as comfortable as any of the others in my collection, probably superior in fact. Sound leakage from the open backs is quite low, but this must be borne in mind if you intend to use them in a quiet environment where such leakage could disturb others. Of course being open backed means that the outside world is present at all times thence they would not be suitable for noisy environments and there is of course no element of sound cancellation. These are wired high fidelity head phones may not be suitable for all modern equipment and you should consult your owners manuals for an compatibility issues before purchasing but if you are in the market for a new set of cans I think that you are otherwise on safe ground with a set of these.
I have used the Sennheiser HD 650 with Shanling UA1 plus, Cayin RU6, Chord mojo2 and Fiio R7. All of them are able to drive the headphones. Build quality is average. The cups put a slot of pressure on your head and at times can be uncomfortable. The cable is pretty long and is good when you are listening to a playlist playing on a desktop device like R7. The headphones are musical and worth the price. They are more resolving than my Meze Neo 99. However the Neos are far comfortable to wear and easy to drive. I can listen to either of them for a few hours without fatigue.
First of all Thank you to HPZ for dropping it's price and making it pocket friendly for noobs like me.This is my 1st ever headphone. Headphones just hit a different neural network in your brain, and that too an Open-Back Legend. Everyone should own a HD650.I'm just a noob who likes to listen to music. In the community of great audiophiles i'm 'Audio-technically' challenged, so it won't be technical review.I wanted these for quiet a long time but didn't invested in it because it needs power. For that one needs a good DAC and Amplifier (preferably tubes for HD650) (Apparently these will break your pocket). So it is a stationary setup but i wanted a portable setup that's why never invested in these before.Setup = Hiby RS2 + Topping NX7Sound is good, refreshing, ... I do not know about highs, mids, lows but listening with this setup feels like you are listening to music live, hearing all the instruments coming from different directions. In the end the sound is so good it will put a smile on your face and you'll be lost in music. They didn't get enough time to burn so it is just an initial impression. These can put a shame to a lot of costly headphones, just keep providing them power and they keep on scaling to greater heights.Use them with Cayin HA-1A MK2, if you want a stationary setup and trust me you wouldn't want anything.Drawback - No case in the box.Improvement - Sennheiser should provide a carrying/portable case for these.
Not an audiophile by any means. History with headphones like the ATH-M50, MSR7, Sony XM4 and the Astro A40s. Using these with the Rode Procaster there is a very beautiful sound and beautiful treble sound. Not heavy on the bass by any means but I really enjoy the subtlety of the bass. Pronounce but not overpowered. Highly recommend if you're looking for a unique sound as they do sound different than the headphones listed above. Would purchase again. Would definitely recommend.
Very accurate, flat frequency response, with great transient response. Pinpoint stereo placement, -most likely enabled by the careful matching of drivers. The sound is comparable to electrostatic headphones that are far more expensive, and it's not so much the usual music being inside your head headphone experience as it is your head being inside the music. These are open back headphones, so they don't provide much isolation from outside sounds. And if you're listening loud people around you may hear the sound spilling out of the back of the headphones. But the open, accurate sound you get is worth the possible inconvenience. You may not want to listen to any other kind of headphones ever again. You do have to make sure you have the headband adjusted properly (and the headphones facing the right way, -it's not obvious from the way the headphones are marked) in order to get a comfortable fit. The HD650 is also a high impedance headphone (around 300 ohms) so some devices (such as smartphones) may have trouble driving them to as loud a volume as you may like, although I found that the sound is so good that I don't feel that I need to listen as loudly as I do with other headphones. The cable is removable and replaceable, and is of the split Y' type meaning that each side is connected separately. This eliminates the usual connection going across the headband from one side to the other that is a major weak spot on most headphones, as that wire will eventually break and fixing that is usually not easy. The cable is a bit long for most uses, seems to tangle easily, and the 1/4 to 1/8 phone plug adapter that's supplied is actually a short (maybe 6) cable that's also a bit cumbersome. Sennheiser should make available as accessories shorter cables including one with just a 1/8 phone plug. But these are minor quibbles, and they're easily ignored considering the quality of the sound you get from these headphones.
