Another outstanding vacuum from Shark

This new model adds the convenience of having a docking station that not only charges the battery but also empties the dustbin whenever the vacuum is placed in the dock. The vacuum has 3 parts consisting of the main power head, wand and floor brush. The docking station consists of 2 parts. There are also a crevice tool and pet brush for furniture. The docking station has what they call a quiet mode which turns off the auto empty function so if you are only doing a small area and the dustbin on the vacuum does not fill up you don’t have to empty it. The docking station has what they call a quiet mode which turns off the auto empty function so if you are only doing a small area and the dustbin on the vacuum does not fill up you don’t have to empty it. The emptying function works great and removes all the dirt in the vacuum. The vacuum itself provides more than enough suction for carpets and hard floors. The vacuum moderates suction based on the surface you are cleaning. The display on the top shows the battery level and provides 3 different settings for Eco, Auto and Boost. Auto will adjust the suction based on the flooring you are using it on. The floor brush features LED lighting which is always a big plus. There are filters for both the vacuum and docking station that can be washed with water only. Even though the battery is charged in the docking station it is still removable and there is a charging port, but the vacuum does not come with a charger. The quick start guide lists the chargers that can be purchased separately if needed. I tend to vacuum different areas of my house at different times, so I have not really seen how much battery life it has. So far, I have not run out of battery for my cleaning needs. Like all of Shark’s vacuums this performs as well as any of them with the benefit of having the docking station to empty the vacuum and charge the battery. I would not hesitate to recommend this vacuum to anyone looking for a light weight and powerful vacuum with all the added features.

When vacuum is placed onto its doc, it auto empties and charges itself making itself ready for your next cleaning session. The vacuum has a Hepa filtration system which is designed to reduce dust exposure which is a big plus for those consumers suffering from allergens.Overall, the Shark is well-suited for those looking for a convenient and efficient cordless vacuum with advanced features like auto-emptying and adaptive brushroll technology. The vacuum can be used as a floor vacuum utilizing a long wand with a powered nozzle that contains a motorized brushroll with lights, or as a hand vacuum without the wand but with the nozzles attached directly to the handheld vacuum unit. This model came with a motorized floor nozzle, a crevice tool, and a ā€œpet multi-toolā€ in which the brush snaps on and off of the tool. The auto-empty system activates each time you hang the vacuum on the charging stand (AKA dock), with the dirt and debris being sucked out of the dust cup on the vacuum and into a larger dust bin at the bottom of the dock base. This larger dust bin is just that, a container without a bag like some other systems use. The nice thing is that you empty this large bin much less often as opposed to a vac that has to have its small dust cup emptied every time you use the vacuum which usually creates a small cloud of dust that doesn’t all end up in the trash can and potentially in your face. The auto-emptying feature happens each time you hang up the vac on the dock so that it is ready to go the next time you need to use it, but there is a button to defeat this feature. This is in case you don’t want the noise the dock motor creates when it sucks the debris from the vacuum’s dust cup, such as late at night when it might disturb others in the household. This button has a moon-shaped icon on it to denote nighttime use and the ā€œmoonā€ illuminates when this quiet mode is engaged. The dock charges and stores the vacuum in addition to emptying the vacuum and storing the debris. Full charging takes about 4.5 hours according to the manufacturer. There is a prominent light on the battery that glows green when it is fully charged. The wand needs to be attached to the hand vacuum in order to charge as the electrical contacts for charging are at the top end of the wand. The hand vacuum can be used without the wand and floor nozzle such as when cleaning furniture. The battery is removable and has a charging port on it to accept a cord from a charger. This type of charger is not included with this vacuum, but appears to be available on Shark’s web site along with additional batteries (I consider the battery price to be reasonable when compared to batteries for power tools). The charging dock, with the vacuum in place, takes up an area about 11ā€ x 15ā€ on the floor. The overall height is 43.5ā€, but overhead clearance of 46ā€ is needed to get the vacuum on and off the dock. The dock provides tool storage for only one of the included tools, the crevice tool. There are two other tools available for purchase from Shark according to the owner’s guide, but unfortunately, a hose is not one of them. The full owner’s guide is available as a downloadable document only and the only paper documentation that comes with the vacuum is a Quick Start Guide that includes maintenance information and safety warnings.During use, the Cordless Clean & Empty vacuum is light and easy to maneuver. Sometimes a little too easy to maneuver as it glides over hard-surface floors with very little resistance. The powered floor nozzle which will undoubtedly get the most use by owners, has a couple quirks that are unique and may take some getting used to depending on the vacuum you were using in the past. The LED lights are mounted at the top of the nozzle above the large brushroll and the light seems to be directed to the floor via the clear plastic housing. This angle does not illuminate debris on the floor quite as well as lights mounted down low on the leading edge of the nozzle. The articulated joint where the wand meets the head forces the head to always swivel left and right as you tilt the handheld unit from side to side and this limits your ability to steer the floor nozzle under furniture and around legs, thus limiting your reach under some obstacles. Also the floor nozzle will ā€œlockā€ at a 90 degree angle to the wand if you accidentally pull it too far back towards you and this feature accidentally engages. That means you have to place a foot on the nozzle to snap it free from the locked position so you can continue vacuuming. The controls on the handheld motor unit consist of two simple buttons, one is on/off for power, and the other cycles between Auto mode, Eco mode, and Boost mode. Eco mode provides sufficient suction power for non-carpeted floors and it also gives the longest runtime. I found the amount of suction generated is on par with competitors (I have no way to quantify this performance though) and I found vacuuming to be relatively easy on low-nap carpet. When you transition from hard flooring to carpet in Auto mode, the vacuum automatically senses this and increases suction and RPM speed of the brushroll. If you are on carpet with a deep pile, this increase in power can make the vacuum very difficult to push and pull. The Boost mode offers greater suction power, but I found that this is of little value on carpet because of even greater resistance to moving the vacuum. I found no need to manually switch to Boost mode on hard-surface floors, so I suspect it may be best used on furniture while using the crevice or multi-tool.The powered floor nozzle has some ingenious, short tines that keep long hair from wrapping around the brushroll and they do work as my wife leaves a lot of hair on the floor and I found none encircling the brushroll after cleaning the house, like I have in years gone by with other vacuums. The brushroll and filters are very easily removed without tools for cleaning. All of the filtering media in both the handheld vacuum unit and the charging stand, are washable with plain water (do not use soap) when needed. It appears from the literature that the main filter in the dock is a HEPA filter and the one in the vacuum itself is not - as far as I can tell. The vacuum comes with a five-year warranty (two years on the battery) which is pretty amazing considering the price point of this vacuum. Having a cleaning tool that is easy to use can make home chores more pleasant - I will stop short of saying fun - and the Shark Clean & Empty is about as good as it gets for this. If you are tired of lugging around a big, heavy, inconvenient, corded vacuum, you owe it to yourself to try a modern take on an appliance that has been around forever and see just how much better the experience can be.

26 June 2024

The Shark Clean & Empty Cordless Stick Vacuum & Auto-Empty System, Self Cleaning Brushroll, HEPA Filtration has a lot of positives but also some negatives and it will depend on how one chooses to use it that will determine how one rates it. I decided to give it a workout so took it with me to my place of business. This is because there are hardwood floors, vinyl flooring and two different types of carpet, one with a small nap, sort of like an outside carpet, and one with a regular nap as you'd find in most carpets. First, the packaging was good so no worries about issues with shipping. The instructions were quite easy to use, always a good thing for those who aren't mechanically inclined, like me. First, the packaging was good so no worries about issues with shipping. The instructions were quite easy to use, always a good thing for those who aren't mechanically inclined, like me. If I can figure it out, anyone can. Now, for the negatives. The charge only lasted an hour. That's fine if you do one room at a time but if you are intending to do the whole, it may be an issue. The filter kept clogging so there was the constant having to clean it. This could indicate a problem but it could also indicate it is picking up a lot of dirt that the usual vacuum doesn't. While it worked well on the hardwood floors and the carpet with a small nap, it did not work as well on the regular carpet. Given my home is mostly hardwood floors, it is not an issue for me but it is something to consider. On to the positives. It is very lightweight. The attachments are easy to use and it can also switch to a handheld vacuum which I could hold one-handed, something I cannot do with others. It was very easy to switch between floor types and the light on the roller was helpful to see that nothing was missed under things. The foam roller insured that hair doesn't get twisted in the roller and it is a dream to empty, just put it on it's station and Whoosh, the debris is emptied into a container on the station which lets you know what that needs to be emptied. It is quite maneuverable and went under and around chairs easily. The HEPA filtration seems to work quite well. Overall, it is a good vacuum and has many plus features.

Great stick vacuum with advanced features!

The Shark Clean & Empty cordless stick vacuum is a great option if you have a small to medium size home with a mixture of floor types. The auto empty feature works great and combined with the light weight and auto-sensing, auto-switching floor brush makes for fast and easy vacuuming of dust, dirt and other debris on your carpet and hard floors. The brushroll also includes Shark's anti-hair tangling feature; I frequently have longer strands of hair on my carpets and floors and over three days of use, the brushroll did not accumulate a noticable amount of hair. The auto-empty bin is "bagless" and the filters are washable, which eliminates the need for recurring supplies purchases. The suction power is ok - not as strong as my full size, corded stick vacuum or some ...Ā MoreThe Shark Clean & Empty cordless stick vacuum is a great option if you have a small to medium size home with a mixture of floor types. The auto-empty bin is "bagless" and the filters are washable, which eliminates the need for recurring supplies purchases. The suction power is ok - not as strong as my full size, corded stick vacuum or some other cordless models I've tried, but the light weight and easy manuverability makes up for the lesser power for my needs. The suction may not be strong enough to pickup embedded dirt and hair if you have deep pile, thick carpet. The debris/dirt bin in the vacuum is also small, but fortunately, the auto-empty feature works well and quickly to empty it. The auto empty cycle automatically starts every time you put the vacuum back onto the cradle, but it has a "quiet" mode to disable the auto-empty in case you don't want to have the noise (it's not as noisy as my other auto-empty vacuum). The two negatives I marked the vacuum down one star for are the lack of a place to store the included multi-tool (there is a spot on the dock for the included crevice tool), and the power cord for the dock is relatively short (approx. 4 ft.) which complicated my placement of the dock in my home.

Great, lightweight stick vac.

This has become my favorite cleaner.I love watching all the technology changes over the years. The first vacuum I remember was my mother’s old Hoover. It was huge, weighed a ton, and was so loud it scared the cats on the next block, this one would not disturb their naps. The Sharp Clean & Empty is lightweight, works beautifully both on bare floors and carpeting, and the ā€˜self emptying’ feature works really well. The most important requirement of any vacuum cleaner of course is how well it works, how it cleans your floors. As lightweight as it is, I bet this cleans as well or better than my mother’s old Hoover. As you go from bare floors to carpet, you can hear the motor speed change and the LED on the head goes from blue to magenta as it hits carpeting. As you go from bare floors to carpet, you can hear the motor speed change and the LED on the head goes from blue to magenta as it hits carpeting. Also, I hardly ever had to go over any debris on the floor more than once. I also was delighted that more than any other cleaner I’ve used; this one was GREAT against a wall or other object. Usually, I’ve had to bend down and move a crumb or something away from the wall, this machine sucked it right up. I also liked the FOURTEEN LEDs on the head which really lights up the floor which is perfect in a dark part of your room. For those with allergies, the HEPA filter keeps the dust in the cleaner, it doesn’t blow it out in your room. But the most fun is watching the self-emptying feature work. It’s all automatic. Every time you place the cleaner back on its stand, you watch it automatically flushing out every bit of dirt in its receptacle. When the large dust bin in the stand finally fills up, you just lift it by the handle, push the button and watch all the debris fall into the trash. There’s no bag needed. Also the stand is very sturdy. I’ve had cleaners with stands which tend to topple easily. Maybe because of the large dust receptacle at the base of this stand, no worries about that.Bottom line, this is a great vacuum cleaner, lightweight powerful, does all it should, and the self emptying feature is just the icing on the cake.

Lightweight Vacuum with some serious suction power
26 June 2024

Shark is a vacuum brand I am very familiar with. I’ve owned about 3-4 different vacuums from them and always been pleased with the quality versus the price point versus a Dyson vacuum. They may not look as fancy as a Dyson but they always get the job done. The newest addition to my collection, the Shark Clean & Empty Cordless Stick Vacuum & Auto-Empty System is probably the lightest vacuum I’ve ever owned with a whole lot of suction power to boot!Unboxing and setup of the vacuum was easy and straightforward. The vacuum has a white finish that resembles a higher end product like something Apple would make. The weight of the vacuum completely assembled is impressively light. The vacuum has a white finish that resembles a higher end product like something Apple would make. The weight of the vacuum completely assembled is impressively light. It’s so light my 2-year-old toddler has no problem holding it and operating it. The vacuum comes with a storage base that also doubles as a container for the dirt you pick up and doesn’t allow it to seep back into the air you breathe. It allows you to store the vacuum easily and dispose of any waste when you hang it up. My son was memorized by watching the dirt get sucked out of the tube and magically disappear. When vacuuming there’s 3 modes Auto, Power Boost and ECO. In Auto mode the vacuum does a good job detecting between hardwood floor and carpet and varying up the intensity based on the floor type. Downstairs I mainly have all wood flooring and area rugs and it did a good job picking up pet hair off my area rugs and is overall easy to use because of the light weight of the vacuum itself. The light is a nice feature as well to see what you’re vacuuming on a hardwood floor Suction power is good on Auto or even better on the power boost mode. Battery life is sufficient to do the job around the entire first floor on one charge and having the base to charge makes it easy to never really run out of juice. 2 additional tools were given for the handheld mode a crevice tool and a dog hair tool. I used the crevice tool to try and vacuum out my car and it did a solid job but not as good as a detailer vacuum obviously.Overall, I’m impressed with this Shark vacuum. It’s by far the lightest vacuum I’ve ever owned while still being powerful enough to get the job done around the home. The ergonomics of the base and storage of the debris while charging is genius. I could vacuum with this Shark all day and never get tired which is something I probably shouldn’t tell my wife cause then she’ll expect me to vacuum all the time. I really recommend this vacuum for anyone looking for a portable option with solid battery life and suction power!

Shark has finally done it, they've beat Dyson

We have two pomeranians and three cats and so we have a lot of fur and dander to sweep up. This comes at us both on the floor and in areas that we cannot easily reach. This new vacuum is easily able to accomplish both jobs and is an incredible piece of technology, fitting right in your hands and I really just do not know how they were able to do this. I think we are at the point where Shark is outperforming Dyson in some ways, while charging less for a comparable product.Getting a new vacuum can mean a plethora of parts, instructions and assembly. Thankfully this machine is about 95% configured, with just a couple of parts to snap into one another. You really don't even have to look at the instruction manual, but you probably should. Thankfully this machine is about 95% configured, with just a couple of parts to snap into one another. You really don't even have to look at the instruction manual, but you probably should. After a few minutes of setup the unit that I had was already charged and ready to go.So off I went, first with the shorter hand carried vac sweeping up the stairs. Next was the full vacuum and there was plenty to sweep up in our main hallway, where we all walk the most. It was obvious that the vacuum was really getting a lot of hair as you can plainly see it fly up through, and into, the tube. This is fascinating to watch, but also shows you very clearly when, and if, the vacuum is not really picking up correctly, indicating a potential choke spot in the vacuum that needs to be cleared. We have an incredible amount of suction on this vacuum, and yet somehow it is still incredibly light. It's a full vacuum that is akin to picking up a stick vacuum, so it's really a major feat to be able to get that kind of suction and portability. All in all Shark has won me over. This vacuum is all you will need, save for perhaps a wet vaccum, for us pet owners. I could not be happier with it's overall ease of use, lightweight and suction power. Highly recommended!

So light and so nimble plus it cleans Itself!

Will it be the game changer I’ve been looking for?Assembly was simple and easy and it took less than an hour for the battery to fully charge. At first glance, the notable features of this product include its lightweight construction and sleek design; the handle housing the battery at the end looks futuristic. The machine fits snuggly on its base that also serves as a charging station. Using it is a breeze. The controls are neatly placed at the top and consist of an LED display for the battery level and cleaning modes and a pair buttons: one to turn it on or off and one to toggle between the cleaning modes. There are three modes: eco that saves energy, boost that prioritizes suction and auto that varies the power as it automatically adjusts to the floor type. The noise level is average for a vacuum cleaner, it gets louder on carpet in auto mode and when using the boost mode. It is very nimble and achieves quick turns in cramped spaces better than any stick vacuums I’ve owned, plus the lightweight helps even more. However, the best part is when I dock it to its base station, It whirrs to life, automatically emptying the dust cup into a dust container inside the base station that can be easily removed at the press of a button. Very handy especially since the dust cup is on the small side and quickly fills up with pet hair and dust. Another nice option is the quiet button on top of the base station that can be used in case you don’t want to empty the dust cup right away.Performance wise, the Shark Cordless Clean & Empty Stick Vacuum does a good job at cleaning. I always use the auto mode since I have a combination of carpets and hard floors. In auto mode, it switches seamlessly between surfaces and it’s noticeable by the noise level and the color coded light indicators for carpets and hard surfaces located on top of the floor nozzle. On both surfaces, I noticed that I have to do several passes until everything is picked up from the floor. Pet hair tends to stick to my carpets and it is the biggest challenge. With the floor nozzle, it took several slow passes to fully clean the area. I also tried the ā€˜pet multi-tool’ provided and it was more of a frustration than a solution. I have other vacuum cleaners that seem to have more suction power, but this one does the job in the end. One other minor issue I noticed is its tendency to come back to the stand-up position too easily while vacuuming; it might be due to its lightweight. I’ve only used it on floor surfaces and have yet to try above the floor with the crevice tool. I never had issues with the battery; it lasts with each use, even longer ones and since the cleaner is docked to its base station when I’m finished it immediately recharges, No complaints there.Overall, the Shark Cordless Clean & Empty Stick Vacuum is definitely worth considering for those looking for a good performing stick vacuum cleaner. Is it the game changer I’ve been looking for? No, but I truly like it for its impressive lightweight, great nimbleness and a battery that’s more than adequate. The self emptying and charging base station brings in some real magic and the modern looks certainly doesn’t hurt. I only wish it had a little bit more suction power to make it my favorite.

My new Shark Clean & Empty Cordless Stick Vacuum arrived very well packaged. I was happy to see that a crevice and brush attachment were included with the vacuum. I have three other Shark vacuums and Shark is great. I especially love my corded, bagless Shark because it is so easy for me to manage as an elderly disabled woman. It does an excellent job cleaning deep into my carpets. I have two other Shark sticks, one for our vacation tiny house and one for quick spot cleans around the house. I replaced the batteries on both just this year and they still work great. When I saw this new technology I really had to try it. It does an excellent job cleaning deep into my carpets. I have two other Shark sticks, one for our vacation tiny house and one for quick spot cleans around the house. I replaced the batteries on both just this year and they still work great. When I saw this new technology I really had to try it. We set the cleaning/charge station in our laundry room because it is pretty large and not something I wanted to leave out in the open. The vacuum was fairly easy to put together but we did need the quick start guide to refer to. I downloaded the owners guide from the website, although it was basically the same info. Oddly there is no good place to store both the included attachments which is annoying. There is a place on the stand for the crevice attachment but it will not stay in place. We plugged in the station and placed the vacuum on it to fully charge overnight for the first time. I immediately noticed that the handle/battery placement is very awkward. It sits below the on/off control switch and the boost button causing me to need both hands to start, stop or turbo boost. I noticed my husband was able to extend his thumb enough to reach the controls with one hand. As noted, there is an option to boost the cleaning power next to the power switch and an led battery life indicator. We noted in our test run that the battery began flashing to charge after less than 20 minutes run time in a combo of boost and eco power. There are led lights across the face of the floor attachment and the indicator lights blue in eco or low suction mode and magenta in boost, higher suction mode which is needed to get carpet clean. We have low pile rugs, deep plush carpet and tile floors. The vacuum transitioned easily between the tile and carpet. I noticed there was, at times, a several second delay between the change from tile to deeper carpet. It also switched back and forth on my low pile rugs as though confused at times about the suction needs. This vacuum is lightweight and very flexible with a good ability to get under furniture and around corners. The collection chamber is noticeably smaller than my other vacuums thanks to the new technology. In my limited testing it never came close to filling up. When I placed it back on the cleaning charger it pulled everything out in just a few seconds and began charging. I love that the next time I need it it will be fully charged and empty, ready to hold the dirt from my next clean up. We did empty the charging base canister just to see how it worked. It will easily hold several cleanings before it needs emptying. It is a very nice vacuum for quick clean ups but I still need my corded Shark for whole house and deep cleaning. Other takeaways, the cleaning/charging station is large. You still have to empty the dirt, just not as often. This vacuum does a good job cleaning and is light weight but the battery won’t clean my whole house on a single charge. This is great for a light, quick clean up.
