As I’m sure many dog owners can relate, you think you’ve heard it all before - I’ve lost count of how many vacuum cleaners I’ve gone through that make similar claims and actually don’t live up to the hype. But this is different, so very different. I was staggered, disgusted and amazed all in one when I first went to empty the dirty water tank. A giant clump of hair (I’ll spare you the picture as it’s a bit gross) had collected in the filter section surrounded by filthy water.I vacuum the carpets regularly and was pretty mortified to discover how much dog hair was nestled in there, but equally impressed at how easily the Shark had whipped it out. This carried on each time I emptied the tank, and I couldn’t believe how much hair must have been lurking deep in the floor that even a powerful vacuum hadn’t been budging. This particular model comes with a built in StainStriker, which is basically a long hose with various attachments that’s perfect for tackling things like stubborn stains, or cleaning the sofa or stairs.A couple of patches on the carpet had some stains that were too engrained for the main part of the machine to fully tackle. So I swapped to the StainStriker, and after giving them a good scrub, I was delighted to see it had worked and they totally vanished. It’s effectively a smaller, handheld cleaner that’s great for tackling stubborn stains on carpets or giving the likes of the sofa or car seats a clean. You simply select the most appropriate attachment for the job at hand, give the area a spray, a good scrub and then suction the dirty liquid back out. It’s incredibly satisfying to use and a handy addition so you can clean more than just carpets. The carpet cleaner leaves some really satisfying streaks.

You can do this without the help of a machine, but a well-designed carpet or portable upholstery cleaner makes the entire process quicker and easier. Shark’s line of CarpetXpert machines are unique for their design, looking more like traditional upright vacuums than your average carpet cleaner. Their models with StainStriker offer a built-in handheld cleaning option, again taking a page from upright vacuums with a hose and nozzle that attach and store on the machine itself. This latest HairPro Pet model is designed inside and out for pet parents, with a variety of features to clean pet messes and pet hair without clogging. As a longtime cat owner with limited space I approached this model as two birds, one stone: an upright and portable machine in one package that takes up about the same space as a full-size upright vacuum. I’ve owned and used many separate machines in the past. Upright models are often loud, bulky and hard to clean, but good ones leave your carpets and rugs looking new. Portable units are easier to store, but they have limited power and really aren’t meant for more than occasional use on small stains. The Shark CarpetXpert HairPro Pet arrived well-packed in a large box, and in typical Shark fashion included a wide array of accessories. I was happy to see no styrofoam in sight, although there was plenty of plastic wrapping and bags, thankfully recyclable at store drop-off locations. Assembly was simple: just pop on the handle, plug in the StainStriker hose and you're ready to go. I appreciate Shark including sample sizes of their cleaning solution in the box so you can start cleaning right away.I was apprehensive about the dual-solution setup of the CarpetExpert with StainStriker, but reading the manual put me at ease. For those wondering, the Shark pulls from the main water tank (with the “deep clean” solution mixed in) for carpet cleaning; it does not use the secondary StainStriker tank at all. When in handheld cleaning mode, the machine will pull from both the main and secondary tank (containing the undiluted “oxy boost” solution) and mix them together as you spray. So if you’re just doing rugs, no need to fill both tanks, but if you’re doing fabrics or handheld stain cleaning, make sure you follow the directions and use both.Preparing the CarpetXpert for use is the same as any other carpet cleaner, if not a tad simpler. Fill the main tank with water and solution to the appropriate lines on the back, make sure all the pieces are where they’re supposed to be, plug it in and turn it on. A few features stand out here: both solution tanks have flat bottoms, making for easy filling, and everything is clearly labeled with some helpful tips here and there to guide you. Second, instead of the hand trigger you might be used to, the CarpetXpert in floor cleaning mode automatically sprays solution when you push it forward, but pauses spraying and only suctions when you pull backward. This is a little thing, but wow, does it make carpet cleaning faster and easier. It’s a lot more like slow vacuuming, and there’s less guesswork about how long to hold the trigger or whether you sprayed this section already. The downside is that you have less control over spraying, as in “deep clean” mode the unit will spray with every forward pass. I didn’t find this to be a problem, but if you want to control every detail, it’s something to note. When hand cleaning with the StainStriker attachment you have a trigger to spray on demand. For carpet cleaning Shark seems to have taken a page from their well-designed vacuums. In addition to the automatic spraying and overall vacuum-like packaging, the CarpetXpert features a tangle-free beater bar that can be easily removed for cleaning. If you’re not familiar with carpet steamers, this is not standard. The “HairPro” features of this unit really go above and beyond what I’ve seen in a carpet cleaner, with special suction pathways and hair-catching filters and hand tools. I was concerned these might be marketing gimmicks, but let me tell you, they’re not. I found not a single hair wrapped around the beater bar or clogged anywhere in the machine after doing two rugs and a bedroom worth of carpet. Coming from a carpet steamer where the beater bar wasn’t even removable… this is a revolution. In use, the CarpetXpert is very vacuum-like on carpets. Push forward slowly to spray, pull back slowly to scrub and vacuum up liquid, repeat until the floor is cleaned. There are only two modes for carpet cleaning, both accessible from the control panel. The default “deep clean” mode sprays solution on the forward motion, while the “dry only” setting simply vacuums without spraying at all.In use, the Shark is easy to control, with a few minor quibbles. Like most carpet cleaners, this thing is loud. You’ll have a hard time carrying on a conversation while it’s in use, and your ears might be ringing a bit by the time you’re done. The Shark is also a hefty unit, and you feel the weight when you’re carrying it or pushing it. Helpfully, the wheels are nice and big, the handle is large and very solid, and the integrated carry handle on the back is well-balanced. The noise and weight are both reasonable trade-offs for the performance of the CarpetXpert IMHO, but they're something to note up front. So how did it leave my carpets and rugs? As clean as can be! If you’re not used to carpet shampooing, you’ll be grossed out (and weirdly satisfied) by what ends up in the dirty water tank. True to its advertising the Shark left my carpets feeling very clean, with lots of brown water and plenty of carpet fibers, cat hair and little bits of embedded litter ending up in the dirty water tank. The HairPro features did exactly what I hoped: there was no clogging or hair wrapping to deal with; instead, hair and carpet fibers were all captured neatly in the yellow hair catcher portion of the dirty water tank. Again, I can’t tell you how great this is compared to other carpet machines I’ve used.Shark keeps the HairPro features coming in handheld mode, with tools designed to scrub hair out of your fabrics (using rubber ridges) and even a special tool designed to capture pet hair right in a little chamber. I’m especially impressed with the pet mess handheld tool, which when used properly keeps unsanitary pet mess water in a separate container right on the tool itself. Again, it makes for a bit of a bulky tool, but you won’t end up with pet messes all throughout the hose and main unit, which is a boon when you’re ready to clean it.Handheld cleaning is as simple as undocking the StainStriker from the side of the Shark, to activate handheld mode. I love that the hose itself is a crevice tool cleaner of sorts, as anyone who’s cleaned a sofa can tell you there’s more nooks and crannies than you might think. All three included handheld tools snap on and perform as they say; be sure to read the directions so you’re using the right tool for the job. Shark actually makes a supersized 7-inch handheld tool, and I wish they’d included it in the box, as it would make cleaning furniture or stairs much faster. That said, the basic handheld cleaning attachment works well, and includes a double-sided brush/pet hair ribbed scrubber to get the job done. With a long hose that attaches to the bottom of the CarpetXpert body handheld cleaning is convenient and stable. Including this hose that docks to the main unit like an upright vacuum is a great solution and it easily replaces a separate handheld steamer in my opinion. I appreciate both the innovation and implementation Shark offers here. The Shark CarpetXpert really shines when it comes to cleaning the cleaner. Carpet and upholstery shampooers lend themselves to messy, complicated cleanup, but here again Shark made meaningful improvements. Two areas I’ve often struggled to clean include the beater bar and the dirty water tank itself. On the CarpetXpert, you press a few buttons and the entire front of the unit opens, allowing you to remove the front suction piece and the beater bar for rinsing and drying. Similarly, the dirty water tank lid completely detaches, allowing you to fully rinse and dry the bucket. The yellow hair catching device caught plenty of hair and carpet fibers, and while it did take a minute or two to clear all the debris, I appreciate that long fibers were deposited here and not deep inside the machine where you can’t reach. Hand tool and hose cleaning is also another highlight, with an onboard self-cleaning rinse function: press your hose with tool on the designated area with the machine running and the unit will spray cleaning solution and suck it into the dirty water bin, rinsing the entire hose assembly on the way. With cleaning of the floors and the machine complete, I prepared to wait all day for my freshly-shampooed areas to dry… and found myself pleasantly surprised when they were dry to the touch only a few hours later. My last shampooing experience left my carpets damp all night and into the morning, so I was excited to find Shark’s suction claims held up in my testing.Overall, the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro Pet with StainStriker is a fabulous device, able to back up its lengthy name with impressive performance. It cleans carpets and upholstery well, with specific tools for specific jobs and plenty of spray and suction power to get the job done. Power is only half the story, though, and where I think the Shark really excels is in ease of use. Not only is it easy to use, but the CarpetXpert is hands-down the easiest machine to clean after a shampooing session, whether you’ve used the floor or handheld modes. Yes, it’s a bit heavy and certainly a bit loud, but those are small compromises to make for the suburb cleaning and user experience the CarpetXpert delivers.

There wasn't any hair tangled in any part of the machine and it was easy to remove brush head and filter for super quick cleaning. Cleaning the stain striker and hose you just press the head on top of the solution container and it actually flushes through the head and hose! So cool and super easy. With flushing the hose and attachments, as well as easy access to the brush, it makes cleaning the machine a breeze and less likely for gunk to build up or the machine to start smelling. The only down side In my opinion, when compared to other machines, is the size of the dirty collection container and solution container as well as the size of solution. You have to empty the dirty water very frequently and you go through the clean water and solution really quickly. The solution for this machine is on the smaller size which means frequently purchasing especially for larger spaces. This currently does not affect me as I have a flat and the smaller size of the containers means however that it's a more space-saving machine.

Carpet is another story; with our allergies we will have to clean it regularly. Renting a carpet cleaner frequently will end up being money down the drain, so I decided to pick up a carpet cleaner. I wanted one before we moved because we would need to clean the carpet before we moved in as the current residents have both a dog and cat, and I’m deathly allergic to cats. That’s where the Shark CarpetXpert Hair Pro Pet with StainStriker caught my attention.Pros:- Deep cleans carpet and furniture with multiple attachments.- Easy to Use.- Handles hair easily.Cons:- Cleaning solution is heavily perfumed, only compatible with Shark Brand solutions.- Have to refill and empty often.- No speed indicator.Setup:To give the Shark CarpetXpert a challenge before our new place, I took it over to the local comic bookstore as the carpet there is disgusting and its dog friendly with many carpet stains to prove it. Assembling was straight forward; the included instructions have easy to follow with pictures for each step. It took me around 15 mins to unpack, browse the manual, and assemble the cleaner. The biggest difference I noticed while prepping the cleaner was the 2 types of cleaner: Deep Clean and OXY Multiplier. The Deep Clean solution is a concentrate that has to be diluted in the water container, which is pretty standard for carpet cleaners. There are clear fill lines on the water container, though I might add less of the Deep Clean or try to find one that is not as scented as the smell is quite potent. The surprise to me was the 2nd cleaner, OXY Multiplier, which had its own container and would only be applied via the attachment handled, called the StainStriker. One concern I had before using the cleaner was that Shark decided to put the disclaimer that the cleaner is only compatible with Shark cleaning solutions, which is clearly a ploy to keep you buying their product. I would prefer a list of “compatible” products and a suggestion to use Shark branded for best results. I understand there is formulations into the cleaning solutions, but I like having the option to multiple cleaning products as in this case, the scent is overwhelming and I would prefer a non-scented option that just cleans. In Use:Using the CarpetXpert is very easy, there is only 2 modes: Deep Clean and Dry Only. Selecting the mode is clear, as the current mode is indicated by the display, and switching modes is just a click. The Deep Clean mode uses the water-cleaning solution mixture when rolling the cleaner forward and suctions when rolling back. The suction is powerful, pulling up enough water that the carpet is left only damp to the touch without extra water.Right away, I noticed that the Dirty water tank only holds about half that of the Clean water tank. Which isn’t a huge issue, but the issue is that both are extremely small. If you move slowly over a carpet, you will be emptying the dirty water every 15mins and filling up the tank in 30mins. This might not sound bad, but the issue is that at my “slowest” pace, I only covered a 10 ft by 4 ft section of carpet. Though, I was targeting a heavily used and extremely dirty section of carpet in the comic bookstore. Like I said, this would be a challenge for the CarpetXpert. I would have liked a larger dirty water tank and a smaller clean water tank, so the ration was more than 1 to 1 for when you’d have to empty and add more water. Results:On the Slow take over the heavily traveled path, I emptied the Dirty water tank at about half the Clean water tank, I switched to Dry Only mode and did another pass, but only took up about a cup of water. The single pass seemed to be plenty, maybe because the cleaner was brand new and still at peak performance. In all cases, the water the cleaner sucked up was the blackest water I’ve ever seen. No joke, the CarpetXpert does deep cleaning. The hair the cleaner picked up collected in either the dirty water basket, StainStriker attachement, or the bottom of the tube of the attachment hose which has easy access on the side of the cleaning head. This made cleaning up the machine very easy, and tool free.I’ve done enough carpet cleaning in the past to know about the right speed to go over the carpet, but one feature I wish the CarpetXpert had was a speed indicator, that indicated either the right speed or level of cleaning based on how fast you moved the cleaner. Other models I’ve used have had one, which was helpful to keep the pace consistent. I played around with the speed at which I moved the cleaner, in a kind of “Slow”, “Normal”, and “Vacuum Speed” pace. It must have been just how dirty the floor was, but in all cases the water pulled up was the same darkness color. But I did notice that in the “Vacuum” speed, the carpet looked visually dirtier after drying the next day. The speed you move the cleaner will greatly impact the level of cleaning. The StainStriker, did well to its namesake, and strikes the stains. Depending on the attachment, the actions are different, but for the most part it’s dry scrub to loosen things up, then extract to get the loose bits, add water solution, wet scrub, and then extract to get the liquid and dirt. I only had to do this a few times to get up a coffee stain from a customer that had been there for a few years. We were surprised by the results. The Pet Hair Extractor did an amazing job at pulling up all the hair on furniture and made it extremely easy to remove the hair, all without causing the cleaner to jam up. Not that I’m wanting to use it, but I KNOW I’ll be using the Pet Mess Extractor in the near future, as our little four-legged demon child likes marking things when upset with us, but I am actually kind of looking forward to seeing if it is easier than a rag and spray bottle. Conclusion:If you have a Pet that often makes a mess on the carpet, either spots or just a few rooms, then the CarpetXpert Hair Pro Pet will be a god send at cleaning up the mess. Or if you have an entry way that gets heavy use, this will clean it right up. Though, if you have a large area of carpet to cover, this model might not be the best as it excels at smaller areas of carpet. The StainStriker attachments means cleaning up rugs or furniture is a quick job, that can have immediate results. I’ll be recommending the Shark CarpetXpert Hair Pro Pet to my friends with Pets, and possibly borrowing it to them once I finish cleaning our new place.

If I can do it, almost anyone can, I have severe ADHD.Using the CarpetXpert was also easy and fun! Everything about this thing is easy and fun. It sucks all the dirty water and soap up into the dirty water tank on the front, in one of my pictures you can see how some dirty water collected after doing a chair and part of the carpet. It’s not for delicate rugs, but for carpets. It’s not a vacuum cleaner, you really probably need to vacuum before using it in fact. It’s a deep cleaner, and a wonderfully convenient one. It will leave your carpet and especially upholstery wet and it takes a while to dry so I recommend using it before bedtime. But what a difference it makes!! Everything is so much cleaner and fresher, and stains and odors are gone for good, until we get new ones. I really feel like if I continue to use this after vacuuming, my home will be a much nicer place to live in and my family will be healthier. It certainly seems well-made and durable, and even maintenance looks fun and easy. It’s a chore, and a bit of a workout, but this CarpetXpert makes it all enjoyable and rewarding.I still have to get the hang of using the hand tool properly because the soap got all over my hand when I used it and the soap isn’t supposed to touch your skin. I know I should’ve washed it off but I didn’t and had no reaction. By the way, this comes with two cleansing solutions (the soap) and they smell nice and clean and fresh, making your carpet and upholstery smell nice and clean and fresh (and mild).Just don’t lose the User’s Guide and you should be fine! I recommend this to anyone with carpeting who wants a nice clean fresh house. I’m so used to my house being dirty and this really does wonders. I posted a review of it on my private Facebook account too and a friend said it’s the same exact model they use at her job, she cleans motel rooms and has told me it can get very messy (she’s even found blood there). She loves the CarpetXpert too.

We have a long hair cat and we vacuum easily once a day to keep up with it. She also seems to be prone to hairballs which we have to deal with cleaning off the carpet quite regularly. Using the Shark is very easy. Fill the water tank with fresh water, add the Deep Clean Pet formula to the tank and if you plan on using the hose, spot cleaning attachments, add the OXY StainStriker solution to the separate blue tank in the front.Upright carpet cleaningThis is the way a lot of people will use this machine. It's best for cleaning large areas and full rooms of carpet. After filling the cleaning solution tank, turn the power on and you're ready to go. The upright has an automatic cleaning solution dispenser system. Pushing the upright forward will dispense the cleaning solution from the tank. There's a sweet spot for the amount of solution you want to dispense. Pushing it forward faster allows a smaller amount of solution to be sprayed, while pushing slower sprays more solution, or more accurately sprays the same amount of solution over a smaller area, so it gets the carpet wetter. To vacuum up the water, all you need to do is pull the upright back over what you just sprayed. Since this back and forth motion is automatic, spraying and vacuuming, you need to be a bit strategic to plan out the course you need to take in order to get the entire carpet. The vacuum is strong enough to get a lot of the water back into the machine and deposits it in the Dirty Water Tank. I find it's best to switch over to dry only mode by pressing the mode button next to the power button. This forces the upright to not dispense any solution, and puts it into vacuum only mode where you can slowly go back over the carpeting to remove as much water as possible. The cord is long enough to get you a fair distance, but I wasn't sold on the plastic feel of it. It was pretty stiff and retained the bends from having it wound up on the cord holder. It may be that this material is necessary to ensure good insulation between wet floors and bare feet, but it does hamper the operation somewhat by getting tangled.Cleaning with the hand toolsUsing the hand tools for spot cleaning is easy because the hose is stored on board. The several tools I tried worked really well and I had great luck getting out a handful of stains I'd been wanting to work on. It also works effectively for any high traffic areas that are always magnets for grime. I used the hand tools to pre-wash the traffic areas before I used the upright on them and it really helped to get them clean. The CarpetXpert comes with four hand tools. One is already attached to the hose. When you want to use any of the other, wider tools, the small spot treater slides inside of the other ones and clicks into place. Very easy and intuitive. When you use the hose attachments, the solution that gets sprayed out is a combination of the normal solution tank and also the OXY StainStriker solution, which you pour straight from the bottle into it's own tank. The idea is that the OXY solution boosts the cleaning power of the standard mixed solution. I really liked using the tools, I found them to be very effective. Spray with the trigger, use the brush or rubber fingers to scrub the area and vacuum up the water. There's a lot of different attachment possibilities to choose from and most of the tools have a reversible brush/rubber fingers or pet hair extractor on them. You can clean the hose after use in a sink or tub by removing it from the upright, or for the smaller tools, you can use the built in Rinse & Go feature. Just place the hand tool on top the solution tank and press down to clean the tool and hose while they're still connected to the machine. When the DWT is full, the LEDs on top of the control panel will show you so you know when it's time to empty the tank. It's easy to remove and shocking how much dirt the machine pulls out of your carpet. When the “full” level is reached, it stops sucking up any water, so it's very helpful that the LEDs are there to show you when it's time to empty. Unfortunately, the solution tank does not have the same type of indication for when your cleaning solution has run out. This would have been very handy and the first time I used the machine I made a number of passes without realizing it was empty, so yeah, just something to be aware of. I was able to get a small size room done with one tankful of solution. Having a smaller solution tank does keep the weight down overall and that's a plus because it can be a bit of a workout pushing and pulling the upright around the room. The Shark CarpetXpert is actually lighter than most I've used though.CleanupJust about every part on this machine comes apart for cleaning. The beater bar is accessible and is easy to take out and rinse, all the tanks pull off for emptying and rinsing, the hose is removable and just takes a sink or tub to make rinsing easy.I've had a fun time using this machine and overall, it's quick to use and does a fantastic job of handling stains and cleaning carpets. I never had a problem with it getting clogged with hair or carpet lint and it just seemed to work as advertised from the first time I used it.

We were due, so this was a perfect opportunity to try out the Shark CarpetXpert HairPro Pet with StainStriker. I first setup the solution to clean. It's nice they give you enough cleaning solution to clean a couple small rooms and try the StainStriker out. I first hit the stains with the StainStriker and the attachment with a brush and it worked very well. Maybe too well, because it completely removed the stains, but also left super clean carpet, which basically made me have to clean the entire area to match it, lol. Using the carpet cleaner is very simple, you push forward and the CarpetXprt Pro automatically applies the solution, while pulling back on the carpet cleaner cleans and sucks up to dirty solution. You can also press a button to only dry when moving in any direction. This is very handy to remove as much of the extra cleaning solution as possible. After going over the living room in one pass, I was amazed how clean in was. It came so much cleaner than I expected. My old carpet cleaner would take a couple of passes to get this clean. It was so clean that I noticed the hallway could also use some attention. In my opinion, the CarpetXpert HairPro Pet with StainStriker cleans just as good, of not better than a professional machine that you can rent. I was so impressed I immediately purchased more Shark Deep Clean Pet Formula so that I could do the rest of the house. Also, Shark made the CarpetXpert HairPro easy to clean up when you're finished carpet cleaning. The included base is a very nice touch. It hold all of the attachments, and also protects the floor while the CarpetXpert HairPro is drying after use. I'm very impressed with this carpet cleaner and would highly recommend it.

I've highlighted some of the key components below that I believe make this a carpet cleaner worth considering.Design & Construction:The CarpetXpert EX301 is well built and made from a combination of premium grade plastics. It's not the highest end feeling appliance, but it feels like it will hold up to some abuse. I love the oversized handle as it helped with comfort during my long cleaning sessions. You can tell that the maintenance and cleaning process was really thoughtfully designed. Throughout my cleaning sessions, emptying the water tank and refilling the solution tank was easy enough. Having a straight-forward emptying and refilling process is crucial here as the tanks are relatively small. This means you will need to constantly refill the cleaning solution tank and empty the dirty water tank when cleaning large areas. Thankfully, Shark made it easy to quickly remove and re-install the tanks. Removing the dirty water tank also exposes the floor opening nozzle which makes it really easy to clean if any debris gets clogged or stuck inside. I also love that there's a dirty water tank emptying indicator (i.e. both blue LEDs flash) that lets you know when the dirty water tank has reached the max fill line. I'm a big fan of the big tab on top of the brush roll cover. This makes it easy to quickly remove the brush roll to wash it after every use. There's also a neat carrying handle in the back of the cleaner which can be used to carry the cleaner up and down the stairs as you clean the carpet. Everything seems to have been carefully designed to quickly inspect or maintain all of the various components of this carpet cleaner.Performance:First and foremost, I'd like to preface this by saying that this is not a substitute for a proper vacuum cleaner (as seen in the Shark label in my screenshot). A proper vacuum cleaner should be used to vacuum debris from the carpet prior to deep carpet cleaning with this Shark carpet cleaner. While the "Dry Mode" feature does provide some additional suction to dry the carpets quicker, it does not provide the same suction performance that a traditional vacuum would in order to pick up larger debris. I tested this alongside a flagship stick vac with a powerful motor and this Shark carpet cleaner struggled to pick up larger debris in "Dry mode". It would pick up some large debris but only when going in the forward motion. When going in the backwards motion, it would just go over the debris most of the time. You also have to deliberately go slow in the forward motion for it to suction it up. Since this is a carpet shampooer and not a vacuum, this was perfectly acceptable to me. However, I felt it was worth mentioning for those thinking that this doubles as a vacuum. In terms of the deep carpet shampooing performance, this thing is awesome. I have a lot of carpet throughout my two-story home and it's been about 3 years since I got them steam cleaned. I was shocked at how much dirt, hair, and other gunk this Shark CarpetXpert deep cleaner was able to extract. Every time I emptied the dirty water tank, the water was dark and filthy. When you move the carpet cleaner forward, the cleaner dispenses the cleaning solution. As you move backward, it dries the area that you just shampooed. The "Dry Mode" feature saved me HOURS of having to wait for my carpet to dry. In this mode, the cleaner extracts as much as liquid as it can from the carpet; regardless of what direction you're moving the cleaner in. It took a little under 3 hours for my carpet to dry.The carpeted area near my front door is pretty heavily soiled due to all of the concentrated foor traffic in this part of my home. I was certain this wouldn't come out. While this cleaner did a decent job of getting some of the stains out, it wasn't until I used the 3.5" stainstriker attachment, with the oxymultiplier solution, that I saw almost all of the stains come out. With a second deep cleaning treatment, I'm confident it will completely be gone. This 3.5" stain eliminator attachment was also a lifesaver when it came to my stairs. While the carrying handle on the back of the cleaner made it easy to carry up the steps, the stain eliminator attachment was the perfect sized brush for the smaller surface area of my steps. I also love that all of the other attachments, like the pet hair and pet mess extractors, have reversible brushes that help with the "hairier" messes.Overall Thoughts:For a residential carpet cleaning solution, I'm thoroughly impressed with the results that this Shark CarpetXpert EX301 cleaner was able to deliver. I also love the included stain and pet hair/mess hose attachment accessories that use the more concentrated oxymultiplier solution. However, there are a few drawbacks which prevented me from giving this a perfect rating. I really wish that both the dirty water tank and the deep clean tank were larger. While they are easy to refill and empty, I found myself either out of solution or needing to empty the water tank after covering a relatively small section of my living room. I honestly wouldn't mind a larger appliance if it meant having to empty or refill a lot less. While emptying out the water tank is easy enough, there are clumps of hair that get stuck inside the non-removeable hair cage. I have to use tweezers or a thin object to pry them out. Lastly, I wish this carpet cleaner had an LED light somewhere on the front nozzle cover. This would really help illuminate the flooring where lighting is poor. Despite these caveats, the Shark CarpetXpert did a fantastic job of deep cleaning my carpet and leaving my home smelling wonderful! As a small disclaimer, I would like to note that I did have to buy an additional bottle of cleaning solution as the included trial bottle only covered about 3/4ths of my living room. Thankfully the cleaning solution seems to be abundantly available at several retailers. Overall, I'm very happy with this carpet cleaner. If you have a lot of carpet in your home that is in dire need of stain removal, or just general deep cleaning from pets and foot traffic, I highly suggest checking out this CarpetXpert EX301!

When I agreed to test the product, I had the impression that this machine was something like a wet dry vacuum. It is in a way, but the CarpetXpert is best described as a vacuum device designed to deep clean your carpets and upholstery. You don’t use the suction in the way a conventional Shark vacuum would. In fact, to get your carpet ready for cleaning with the CarpetXpert, you use your conventional vacuum to take up the surface dirt while the carpet is dry. Then you go over the carpet with the CarpetXpert which injects water and cleaning solution into the carpet and then pulls the dirty water into a tank on the machine for disposal. The result is a clean and relatively dry carpet. The system is engineered to use two different types of cleaning agents, both exclusive to Shark. The agent called Deep Clean is diluted with water when you fill the main tank on the machine. The bottle furnished with the machine was sufficient to clean one 8 X 10 carpet in my living room with some left over to attack a problem area in one of our upstairs rooms. A 48-ounce bottle of the solution is $23.99. Bear in mind that the replacement solution comes in a quantity sufficient to clean several rooms of carpet. The other solution is called OXY Multiplier. It is for the toughest stains, and I was able to use a small amount for the stains I wanted to attack, and I had plenty left over in the trial bottle. It is not diluted and is poured full strength into the StainStriker tank. The replacement size is 32 ounces and costs $13.99 from Shark.I was very pleased with the cleaning result in my living room. The machine is designed to apply solution as you push it forward, and then vacuum only as you pull backwards. You can also throw the switch to vacuum only if you want a faster drying time on the area you have already cleaned. I found the rug slightly damp when I finished, and it was dry to the touch the next morning. There were no obviously visible stains on the living room carpet to clean, but the rug had seldom been shampooed, and the filthy wastewater showed just how through the Shark clean had been. For the 8 X 10 rug, I had to dump the wastewater three times before the job was complete.I had a stain upstairs that simply begged to be tested. Years ago, and I mean several years ago, something spilled in one of the bedrooms that prior cleanings had never dealt with. And by prior cleanings, there was at last one professional job on the room in question, which did not get the stain out. Since I was not even sure of the source of the stain, I was skeptical that the Shark system would be able to do anything with it.First, I vacuumed the area of the stain with our conventional Shark vacuum to remove the surface dirt. I then used one of the several StainStriker wand attachments to go over the area of the stain with the OXY Multiplier solution to hopefully loosen the stain. I then went back over the area with the main floor nozzle using the Deep Clean solution. First indications were that the stain was no longer visible, but I wanted to wait until morning when the carpet was fully dry to confirm the results. Unbelievably, the stain was gone!I am impressed with this device! It will take a few minutes to put together, and several hours to learn to properly use it. There is no way to avoid reading the instructions to learn this device, trust me on this. I read the instructions over several times and watched videos before I felt comfortable to perform my first cleaning job. And after the job was complete, I had to spend significant time cleaning the various tanks and nozzles so that they would be ready for the next use.The results were well worth the investment of time. Shark’s great reputation was further confirmed in my mind, and remember: the CarpetXpert has a five year warranty!
