This thing is excellent! Really nice quality! Double sided with a rough side and fine side for honing. The sharpening stone itself is long enough. The handle is comfortable and makes it easy to use for knives or axes, or any tool, whatever you need to sharpen. No water needed! It's about 8 inches long which is perfect to fit into a Maxpedition Beefy, which is where it lives in with my knife maintenance kit. I wrap a scrap piece of cloth around the stone part to protect it while it's inside the pouch. Works great for me and the price was outstanding compared to other diamond stones - that your not even sure what your actually getting when you purchase.

I have gone through all kinds of sharpeners: ceramic sticks, carbide, water stones, oil stones, and other diamond stones. Never have I been able to get a knife to just cut through paper like you see in videos. Now I can. Not only that but tools too. My axe and my plane blade zip through paper. I even got a HF chisel sharp. Okay, probably is not the best measure of sharpness. Iām able to get a nice polish on the edge. Just donāt put pressure on the stone, just the weight of object being sharpened!

Winter is the time to recondition those tools employed in the other three seasons. The diamond impreginated surfaces eliminates the use of honing oil. The rubber handle infused on a stainless steel base grips solid in the hand. Start the restoration project with the course 325- grit side. It does a great job in deburring and leveling the roughest edge. Hone the final edge with the extra fine 1200-grit side. The 8 ¼ā long Sharpal sharpener is compact enough to store in the toolbox or a kitchen drawer for daily use. I tested the sharpener on the firewood axe, garden tools, lawnmower blade, and even my 55-year-old pocketknife with great results.

This is a compact tool for sharpening knives, axes, and the like, small enough to be easily carried with you while doing a lot of cutting. Provided with two different grit diamond sharpening surfaces (325 and 1200 grit), it will be possible to perform minor repair to damaged cutting edges as well as fine sharpening. The molded on handle (which has markings for grit size) is on the small size which could be an issue for those with larger than normal hands or if it is intended to wear work gloves while using. The over-molded handle material is a hard plastic and tends to be a little slick. An integral tang is provided for attachment of a lanyard (not supplied). The instructions supplied (which include how to clean the surface after use) employ an extremely small font and indicate a combination of strokes toward and away from the user depending upon the edge being sharpened. Most will find it more comfortable, due to the handle construction, to draw the stone over the edge of the cutting tool rather than using an āupstrokeā. Following the cleaning instructions provided did not remove all traces from the 1200 grit side, but did not seem to affect the sharpening ability of the stone. A comfort-grip handle, lanyard, carry sheath and hand guards would earn this another star.
This Dual-Grit Diamond Sharpening Stone Blade Sharpener is terrific for kitchen knives. A few swipes on the rough side if needed to take out any nicks, and then finish on the smooth side. I've always used a water stone myself, but this is much faster and easier. And you can keep it in a kitchen drawer and pull it out any time you need it. The rough side is really more suited for tools like hatchets and lawnmower blades, but my experience with diamond sharpeners is that the diamonds wear off under heavy use a lot sooner than you would expect, so I would just use this on knives.
I was shopping for a dual grit diamond sharpener that I wanted to use around the house and with my pocket, hunting and fishing knives. I found this SHARPAL 121N Dual-Grit Diamond Sharpener that looked exactly like what I was looking for. It has dual grit so the coarse side will quickly form an edge while the fine grit side will put a nice sharp edge on your knife. It has a stainless-steel base with the monocrystalline diamonds electroplated in nickel to the stainless base. This diamond sharpener can be used dry eliminating the need for water or messy oil. The coarse side is 325 grit and the fine side is 1200 grit.
Sharpal Dual-Grit Diamond Sharpening Stone Blade Sharpener is a handy tool to have in the shop, garden or anyplace you need to tune-up cutting blades. It's a dry sharpener, doesn't need water so is great to just grab it from the toolbox and touch up a another blade tool before starting to work. It's more easily portable, has a handle to to use on the go, not kept on a workbench like a traditional sharpening stone. The size also makes it more convenient to sharpen large and smaller blades. Other similar sharpening tools have smaller grit sharpening areas. This one is almost an inch wide, a 4 ¼ - inches long sharpening area that's attached to a 4 - inch handle. The tool feels substantial from those other ones. It feels solid in the hand, sturdy handle and a hole on the end for hanging. The tool is made from diamond dust electroplated onto a stainless steel base. Each side has a different grit. One side is coarse 325-grit to repair a more damaged blades and the other side 1200-grit is to hone it and finish the edge. I already own a traditional size Sharpal diamond coated stone along with others, wet and dry. This sharpening tool has advantages mentioned and a handy one to take along with other tools.
Appears to be a quality product. I was concerned if the non-coated edges of the tang would rust, but I see the tang is made of Stainless Steel. So far, I just sharpened my pocket knife, and it worked fine. I have an elaborate sharpening system in the garage, but it takes some time to set up, so I only use it once a year, and then resharpen everything in sight. This Sharpal tool will be handy to touch up between the annual sharpening. The two grits feel like a good choice (325 grit and 1200 grit). The only improvement I could suggest is to have the handle slightly thicker, and a rubbery type of feel for an easier grip. The unit is designed in the USA, but manufactured in China.
I am glad to have this dual grit diamond sharpening stone. I like that the grit numbers 325 & 1200 are embossed on each side of the black plastic handle. I tried out the sharpener on my Swiss Army knife and it worked well for that. I noticed that the 1200 grit side was better for the Swiss Army knife. I measured the sharpener with my tape measure and the overall length measured 8-3/8 inches. I weighed the sharpener on my scale and it weighed in at 5.7 ounces. Overall this is a nice sharpener.
The Sharpal Dual Grit Diamond sharpener proved to be useful for keeping my blades honed. First, the hard-plastic handle is right-sized for holding a grip while sharpening blades. Secondly, it has a course side for quick edge setting and then an extra fine side for honing the blade. Third, I didn't need to use messy oils to sharpen my blades. Finally, as an added feature, there is a built in hole on the end of the handle to hang the sharpener so I don't have to search for it in my tool box. I really liked all of these features.
