After buying an old 1980's Landcruiser a year ago, I chose Shell Helix HX5 15W-40 for my first oil change because I didn't know how long it had been since the previous oil change and how dirty it was inside the engine. Done about 6000km on the HX5 and it's going great, oil level is still exactly the same and the oil itself is so black now that you almost can't read the dipstick markings. That means the oil is doing a good job of cleaning and absorbing contaminants. It's also one of the more inexpensive oils on the shelf, proving that quality oil doesn't need to cost the same as liquid gold or princess tears.

I've used this product for quite a while, an absolute bonus when it's on special. It hasn't given me any issues yet, so I will keep using it, and it's great value for the money, especially when it is on special.

The Helix HX5 is one.You should realize,that you are surrounded by outlets supplying car supplies.I would give you 1 star,for my experience.Not happy.You will say I am incorrect,Sorry I am not.For many years I purchased a particular injector cleaner additive.I asked one of your staff,why I could not find it.His answer to my request was.'We decided we did not want to stock it anymore'.
We've been using this oil for approx. 3 decades over a few cars. It certainly does a great job and keeps our cars running smoothly.
I wasnt sure which oil to buy for my car as i had others telling me different oil thicknesses. To me the screen to add my information for the best oil to buy for my car made my decision easier and the lady at the register was very bubbly. All in all I had a very good experience

It is my second oil change with this oil so I will give it another 5,000kls and see how it is.I've been using Castrol since 1969 so you see I don't want to give this oil a big wrap with only 10,000kls so will wait and see.
I have used many types of oils in various motors. I found this oil is quite good and has a good start up sound as some others Ive used tend to show a noisy start up. I think for the cost of this oil vs the use in old or well run engines, It has good lubrication and burn properties. Burn properties I always judge the codes with the lettering in the specification to the overall burn temperature. This oil has good abillity to not burn easily due to good laboratory engineering that occurs in lubrication technology. Generally for a person who is between oil servicing or struggling with financial issues and wants to use an oil that doesnt just turn to smoke in the combustion stroke and smoke out the exhaust pipe I am happy with this oil.
