I purchased this for my wifes 3x9 to 1x10 conversion on her Raleigh Ram 3.0 XC. The install was easy, the adjustment range is excellent, and chain slap is all but eliminated.

The new 12s Deore groupset is incredible for the price. The shifting is super smooth and everything works great. Unfortunately, I smashed one (it didn't bend the derailleur hanger) and had to replace it. Availability might be an issue, but if this is compatible with what you need, there's really no real reason to splurge for any higher model unless you're a weight weenie.
This M6100 came on my Vitus Sommet 297 CR. I was so impressed with the performance, I almost didn't bother "upgrading" to XT. Buttery smooth, and never skipped a shift, or lost a chain. The only advantage to SLX, XT, or XTR is the weight, and ball bearing pulley's. These can be easily upgraded with ball bearing pulleys when the time comes, and you'll have one of, if not the most reliable rear 12spd derailleurs on the market. Absolute steal of a deal on a 12spd. Shimano's bottom tier MTB 12spd will put SRAM's bottom to mid tier to shame. If you're on a budget, don't hesitate to buy one of these M6100 derailleurs.

I read numerous reviews from reputable publications about how good the new Deore 12 speed is; all of which were right. I've been riding XT/XTR 10 speed for the past 11 years, finally upgraded to a larger (51t) cassette and needed a derailleur to handle the gigantic "pie plate" cog. I'm still using my XT 10 speed shifter and this 12 speed mech works perfectly fine (with shimano, you can use a higher speed derailleur with a lower speed shifter, but not vice versa). Super crisp and predictable shifting on par with the upper level Shimano components, AND IT'S CLUTCHED!. This is a case in which "trickle down" actually works, I can't recommend this enough, especially if you're on a budget.
