Actually haven't opened the box yet. It's an 11-46 to replace a Shimano 11-42 which has been excellent. The only difference I believe is that the two largest cogs have been replaced, by aluminium ones. So it's relatively light but supposed to have a big step to the largest cog. That should be no problem, I use that mostly only on big hills particularly when fully loaded.

The 11-40T XT cassette works flawlessly on my 1x gravel bike with GRX shifter and derailleur. My other wheelset has a XTR 11-40 cassette and there is no difference in shifting performance between the two. I was expecting to make some adjustment to the derailleur when swapping between the XT and XTR wheelsets but none needed!Even though XT is marketed towards MTB, the 11-40 cassette is spaced optimally for 1x gravel and hilly road. An excellent value and no real world riding difference between the XT and XTR. Money is better spent on the XTR/Dura-Ace HG901 chain which pays for itself with a much longer wear/stretch life.

Unreal range for any ride. I’m a fan of versatility as I ride my bike all over the country, not just sticking to the regional conditions. With these considerations I decided to build my rig for any trail I may encounter. I upgraded my 2015 Scott Genius 740 from 3x10 to a 1x11. I used all new M8000 XT components except utilized my factory crank with a Wolf Tooth 96BCD chainring up front. This 11-46T cassette is PERFECT. I coupled it to the XT derailleur (M8000 GS, Medium Cage) and it serves the utility of the bike well. The shifters are noticeably more firm to shift than previous XT, but the action to the cassette is the same Shimano quality. The 46T cog is great for the steeps, yet the gears below it still give me all the juice needed for my rides. The chain does ... MoreUnreal range for any ride. Cassette for spare rear wheel
5 October 2022

Spare Hope rear wheel built up for winter, fitted with 11-46T to match existing rear wheel, having switched from 32T to 30T chainring. Wider range too expensive. Current cassette has lasted 12 months so far and still going strong (always replace chain at 0.75%). Best value online through Biketart when taking into account free P & P and £10 discount for purchases > £100. (Purchased rotor at same time).

I am running this on
15 August 2022

I am running this on a gravel build and it is working amazing. XT is the way to go in the shimano line for saving your freehub from extra damage with SLX or lower cassettes with individual rings. I am now running 11-40, 11-42, & 11-46 XT cassettes on different wheelsets for my 1 bike and they all have worked fantastic!(new cassette on the Revin Wheelset on the left)

I upgraded my trail bike
6 December 2022

I upgraded my trail bike with this cassette and an XT derailleur. Shifting is smooth and gear ratios are perfect for anything I'll have to handle on the trail. The cassette installs on a standard HG 9,10,11 free hub without spacers so no compatibility issues. Don't forget to purchase an 11S chain.

My old cassette weighs more than this, did not expect that.
8 August 2018

My cassette arrived today in perfect condition. Packing was spot on. This is so lightweight. I guess I was expecting due to its large size it would weigh a lot more than this does. I am upgrading a cheap rear wheel and drive system to the Shimano XT for the most part on my handcycle. I am really impressed with this cassette. Brand new as described. The first 5 sprokets are loose as in not connected to each other. I am new to this so please understand my odd observations. This has a plastic sleeve and a clip that keeps this together. I accidently pulled that not knowing what it did.... I thought it was a zip tie end... It popped right off the sleeve. No worries I had some small zip ties to slip through the slots on the plastic piece for now. In the images you see my ... MoreMy cassette arrived today in perfect condition. Packing was spot on. I absolutely enjoyed installing this cassette. It looks incredible to me on the new wheel. Added 2 new images of the cassette on the new wheel. Highly recommende! Super quality. Excellent value.

Nice, quiet and smooth
14 November 2022

I bought this cassette to replace my old worn Shimano one. This one looks good, feels good, and runs quietly and smoothly (I also fitted a new SRAM chain). I'd say it runs better than my old Shimano one but I did prefer the gear ratios on the Shimano which was also an 11-32. For me and what im used to there is a bit of noticable step between 6th and 7th largest cogs on the SRAM.

Shimano XT 11-46
27 May 2022

Hands down, these cassettes are the best you can buy. Shimano rarely disappoints, and these have an excellent gear range and they shift like a dream to boot. Especially when grouped with the Shimano Deore XT M8000 rear derailleur and shift lever. So if you’re interested in a solidly designed piece of gear for your bike’s rear end, look no further. Excellent quality at an excellent price, and it’s built to last. Even works with SRAM, KMC, and YBN chains for those of you who might be running a different brand of chainring or think gold-plated chains are the only option on your trusty steed.

Working great so far for my Frankenbike!
28 September 2021

Decided to convert an old Orbea Onix from a 2x to a 1x drivetrain. I was originally looking for a SRAM 11-42 but with the bike part shortage that was a no go and also didn't like how the anodized coating would eventually look after use. So I opted for this cassette and I don't have any complaints so far. Looks great and works great with my Rival 1 derailleur. Very clean shifts and overall very quiet. Love the range and combined with a 42t chainring in the front I haven't lost any performance switching from 2x to 1x. IMO it's definitely worth the investment.
