Off-road miles come with more vigorous demands than sticking to the tarmac, and as such it's unreasonable to assume featherweight road components are suited for the demands of gravel riding. Shimano saw to it that you don't have to choose between mountain or road setups this year with its launch of the GRX groupset, and the GRX FC-RX810 Crankset provides Ultegra-level stiffness, with gravel-minded gearing. Shimano has the technical expertise and manufacturing prowess to create industry-leading shifting and stiffness to weight for the rings and crank arms, respectively. The latter property is owed to Shimano's Hollowtech II arm construction, a heavily guarded secret. Where other manufacturers drill the arms to reduce weight or create two sides and clam-shell them together, Shimano is able to forge the arms and still keep them hollow. As with the Shimano 8100 series, Shimano adds some width to the XR810's arms and orients the spider to more efficiently transfer energy during important power phases throughout the pedal stroke. The asymmetric spider and chainring spacing allows Shimano to put two chainring bolts close to the wider arms, further adding rigidity to the rings for better shifting and power transfer.

I have an early generation gravel bike that used 105 road components. I waited for this generation GRX crankset to come out before making the switch. Really happy I did. This made riding the hills of the Wild Horse Gravel ride in Colorado much easier. If you're riding steep hills you'll appreciate the lower gearing this crankset will provide.

I bought this GRX Fc-Rx-610 2X crankset for my Specialized Aethos as I am an old, slow cyclist in search of lower gears. Installation was simple as it is with all Shimano Hollowtech cranksets. The only problems encountered were chainline and vertical adjustment of the front derailleur. The first was easily solved by adding a 2.5 mm spacer under the FD mounting bracket; the latter I could not find a solution to, so I returned the crankset and got a GRX CC-820-2 instead. Perfect.

Great upgrade from a heavy stock crankset. The Hollowtech II technology is very light. My bike lost a little over 1/4 lb. in weight. Losing that much weight usually would cost quite a lot more money. This is on an All-City Nature Cross Single Speed. With the Shimano XTR M9100 SPD pedals and some very light Shimano RX8 shoes really takes things to another level. This is a very high quality product. I think it is worth it for the quality and weight reduction. I don't have anything negative to say about it other than it is not cheap.

I ordered this, a new cassette, and a long cage derailleur to set up my gravel bike as a 1x11. Was getting fed up with the front derailleur, but already had Shimano, so it was cheaper and easier to switch to the GRX components compared to changing everything to SRAM (no offense to SRAM). Shimano makes great lightweight cranksets. All I needed was an inexpensive 8 star tool to remove and fit this one; I had the other tools. Easy enough to look up videos how to do it myself! Also, Jenson USA has been very swift with their orders, even during COVID19!
I have install this crankset on my Topstone 1 that had around 150 miles. So it's a pretty new bike (cassette, chain and derailleur). But after one ride I've noticed metal shavings on my chain, cassette and front chainrings. Before installation I've noticed that chainrings on a new crankset are not smooth (have burrs). Not sure if I got a "lemon" or is it a norm but I didn't see this on any my bikes before... (ibis that has shimano drivetrain and fsa crankset that Topstone came with didn't have this issue).
I'd put around 3k miles on the original Shimano GRX600 crank including a chain swap or two. I was never in love with how it shifted, clunky. The GRX RX810 is smoother, stiffer, and a touch lighter. I put the new drivetrain (with an Ultegra cassette) on the night before a 3 day bike packing trip and it was money. I ride this bike 3-4 times per week and am loving this upgrade.
Direct swop from 105 without changing the derailleur despite the 17 tooth difference. It’s right at the adjustment limit so changing derailleur is recommended. Good quality for the price point.
Replaced stock FSA 19MM 46t/30t Canondale Topstone 1 crank. Works great, so much smoother than stock crank and allows for overall faster topdown speed. Installed myself by replacing FSA BB with SM-BBR60 since FSA BB is not compatible with this crank. Some force with a rubber mallet was required to get crank fitted into new BBR60 BB. A 3/8 torque wrench with support for 40-60Nm is also required to properly torque BB. Non-drive side crank arm is easy to install, just set preload then toque crank arm screws between 12-14Nm (alternating). Well worth the time and money for a crankset upgrade from stock.
First foray into 1x and my other bikes are Shimano so I wanted to stay with the same system. The crank is well made and a nice finish. But after a couple of rides with this 42t on the front and 11-42 XT cassette, I've discovered that the 11 speed range is not enough. I have ordered a 40 tooth for the front so that I can climb anything remotely steep (off-road), but I know this will impact on the top-end on tarmac. I don't like the Sram controls so it wasn't an option but I wish Shimano would catch up with their 1x offerings.Sigma - you need to start including 'Gravel' in the 'discipline' dropdown.
Service was excellent, package arrive very quickly and without any issues. Everything was very well packaged so no transit damage. I use a cyclocross bike as my commute bike in all weather. in 6 years I have has 2 hollowtech dual chain ring cranksets fall apart (the cranks have have unbonded from the spider)- this single ring crankset is much simpler and as it is more compact and as a result there is less flex so hopefully it will cope better with the stresses and strains of frequent use.It was very easy to fit - being Shimano there was no need to change bottom brackets etc and removing the front mech has made the whole bike simpler and will hopefully reduce chain wear too.
