First time purchasing a Shimano road shoe so I didn't know what to expect. True to size length wise, but the toe box seems really roomy to me. For me that was both good and
bad. Good because it makes the shoe more comfortable in my opinion, and bad because with the stock insoles I was constantly tightening the dials to try and get a really
snug fit. Eventually went to insoles that took up more room and that solved my problem. Really like the adjustment dials as you can really fine tune the fit and it's easy to do
while on the bike.

These seem to be nice shoes and well made. For $450 they should be! Also for $450 I would expect the wide version to be available in half sizes. I tried the shoes on and
walked around on the carpet. They felt a little large (long) with a little extra toe room but even this wide version was a bit narrow for me. No amount of tightening would stop
the heel slip - a sign that the size is too large. If I went down a full size I know even the wide version would be too narrow. Maybe a half size smaller would fit, but it isn’t
offered. I purchased a size 41W, my street shoe size is 7.5. I don’t feel that the Shimano size table is off, just too much of a compromise to offer only full sizes in ... Show more

Finally replaced a decade old pair of Shimano’s with these. Originally bought the same size as I did 10 years ago and these are so much narrower. I have narrow feet but the
wide version fit perfectly. If you have wide feet I can’t see the wife’s being wide enough. Very comfortable and stiff. The dual BOA which doesn’t require complete release to
loosen mid ride was the clincher. My only gripe is having to pay return shipping fees when free returns are the norm.

Favorite Shoe to Date

I've ridden in shimano shoes for over 10 years, but never had RC9's. I must say, this shoe is definitely worth it. The fit is spot on and the boa's snug everything up nicely and have great adjustment so I can get them to feel exactly how I want them to. Also, the toe box seems to be roomier compared to the RC7's I was using, which is a welcomed change. Very nice venting, but not too breathable where my feet are cold on chillier days. I've used them for everthing from long road rides and gravel, to the occasional singletrack secteurs. Durable, stiff, great fit, and amazing looks. Honestly, what more could you ask for out of cycling shoes? I'd say Shimano has really outdone themselves with these S-PHYRES!... Show more

Great shoes, great Boa dials too
21 June 2023
Grabbed these on a sale, and I do like getting new shoes. I'm a 10.5 in dress shoes, sneakers, basically everything, regular width. Of note, I do have high arches, I know, rare in the days of collapsed arches and bad feet due to no exercising.I went for a size 45 in these shoes, and they fit well. With a thin summer style sock, I could have maybe convinced myself to use a 44.5 all the same, but I ride year round, and do wear a thicker-but-still-thin merino wool sock in the winter that takes up the space, but I basically followed the size chart and it fit true to size. I'm a 44.5 in LG, 45 in Sidi, 44.5 in Fizik, 44 in Bont, 44.5 in Giro, so basically I don't notice a whole ton of variation in shoe manufacturers and can make it work. The included adjustable arch ... MoreGrabbed these on a sale, and I do like getting new shoes. I have another set of footbeds I've had made that I also switch around as needed, but there is room if you go that route.Nothing to note with them negative, they fit well, have some give as your foot spreads during a pedal stroke, you can cinch them down without pressure points, and the new micro-adjustable Boa dials on shoes are fantastic. They are much less bulky too, thinner profile knobs maybe is the right description. 'Shoes are subjective, but no hot spots, not even with the stock insoles, but I do like the G8s as I can tune them more. I'm an oddity with high arches and high instep, shoes do work fine for me, and the heel cup doesn't slide at all. They are quite airy, which is great on hot days or indoors, but you'll need a cover sooner than others for sure with these. I like the airy shoes vs the swamp fest.I run my center of cleat position 190mm from the back of my heel, and if I take a Look cleat, jam it back, it's basically dead on. The Shimano shoes do have another 5mm (ish) of adjustment if you adjust the red spacers around the cleat nuts, but I'm good with mine where they are. They are adjustable from inside, cut through the cover, move them around, tape cover back down.Great shoes for sure, I had a pair of the 900's long ago and they lasted a really long time, even with bad weather riding and all of that. I expect these will be the same.... Show more

Happy feet!
8 June 2023
I'm another former Sidi loyalist. That said, I am delighted with these shoes. Construction and finish is first rate. The Boa system provides very precise, even pressure distribution across my instep and heel retention is even better than my old Sidis (which had the special heel retention system). Very stiff, very light and well ventilated. They are narrow in width at the toe box, but quite generous in the vertical dimension. My feet are narrow and not very thick, so I actually needed to reduce volume and switched to Specialized BG Blue insoles. For reference with respect to size, the Specialized insoles in 42-43 length fit my new size 43.5 S-Phyres exactly. The heel pad of the S-Phyres does not appear to be replaceable and sole protection at the toe is minimal, so I ... MoreI'm another former Sidi loyalist. That said, I am delighted with these shoes. Stiff, comfy and looks good!
12 July 2024
This is my second pair so that should tell you a lot about the shoes. I have a flat sole / wide feet but not wide enough to require the wide feet version. There are plenty of other shoes within the price range and just like saddle, stick to the one that fits and so I did. I needed a spare one in case I get wet with our UK weather. Is it worth the money? Yes at sale prices or if you have money to waste. Is it a good pair of shoes? It's one that looks good, stiff and fits well on me.... Just a note for the first time buyer, the little plastic bits where you attach the cleats, make sure you read how to use them and not throw them away!!... Show more

The Perfect Shoe
8 August 2024
Genuinely the most comfortable shoe I have ever put on my foot. Just starting to get into road racing after a decade racing XC, and figured I'd invest in high quality shoes. I noticed Shimano had an option for "wide" fitting shoes and gave them a try. Safe to say I am happy with my purchase and have never been more satisfied with a shoe, on or off the bike. I have very wide feet, collapsed arches, and pretty severe pronation that has required two surgeries to help correct, yet these shoes fit me perfectly with the stock insoles in my regular size. I have absolutely no discomfort and no complaints!... Show more

The perfect shoe - for me.
14 June 2023
With low volume and reasonably narrow feet I have always struggled to find a good fitting cycling shoe particularly these days with the trend mostly on wider fit. These really do come very close to a perfect shoe for me. The heel holds well and the mid and forefoot are snug without too much material getting in the way to allow you to synch them up. The material is soft and so you can go quite snug without any discomfort. The Boas do a good job and seem well positioned so, along with the wrap design of the upper, you get a secure and very comfortable fit. They are light and well perforated in the uppers and, along with decent sole ventilation, the shoe works effortlessly. I did just put the cleats on and jump on the bike and they were as if I'd had them all my life. ... MoreWith low volume and reasonably narrow feet I have always struggled to find a good fitting cycling shoe particularly these days with the trend mostly on wider fit. Cleary a very high performance shoe with great pedigree so nothing to even look to complain about in this department. I am generally a size 46 in most shoes and that is what I bought in the S-Phyres which fit well but leave enough room for my toes as well as thicker socks for winter riding. On top of all these great qualities they are elegant and sleek and really just look very sharp. I couldn't be happier and I got some great service in the store too which is always nice. I'd registered on line and ordered to collect from the store so I saved a pretty decent chunk of change as well.... Show more

Worth every penny, phenominal
24 June 2024
I've had these now for about a month and I could not be happier. I upgraded from Shimano RC-7's. The fit is very similar but it's a notch up in terms of quality and comfort. The pressure on the feet from these is a level up. I have less foot pain now then I had before on longer rides. The two way BOAs are also a nice touch for finding the perfect tension throughout the shoe on the foot. I use these 4-5 times a week. They are super responsive and the power transfer is awesome given the fit and stiffness in the sole. I would highly recommend these.... Show more
