Decent shoes for the price. I've been riding these for about 3 years. The problem with one Boa dial is that it tights the front of the shoe more than the year. So, one must tighten more on the trail once the Boa laces have shifted around. I liked My Diadoras with 2 Boa button as the fit was more adjustable.Just today I hit a rocky hill on the side of a very narrow single track and somehow the lace was severed. Fortunately Boa has an excellent warranty and they supposedly are going to send me a replacement lace.Would I get these shoes again? Probably not. Again, good price point, and they've held up. But the fit is a bit loose on my average width size 10 feet. My next MTB shoes will probably be a model with 2 Boa dials instead of just one.

So far I’m liking them. Replaced an old carbon soled pair with dry rotted and disintegrating rubber lugs - almost no soles left at all. I elected to go with a slightly less stiff sole - and lower price - since I’m not a racer. I wanted boa closure as in my last 3 pairs of road shoes. I wondered about the unique placement of the boa dial but so far I’ve had no problems getting them on and off. 3 rides so far, each a bit longer. After about 1:45 on my 2nd ride, my right foot felt tired and I even thought, “one more ride and I might return them if no improvement”. Before the 3rd ride I swapped in my upgraded insoles I use on my road shoes and planned an outing of 2.5 - 3 hours. I ended up adding to the plan and totaled 3.5 hours. After about 2.5 hrs I stopped at a park visitor center along the gravel trail to refill drink bottles. Walking on concrete and wooden floors was good - easier than a few weeks ago in my old carbon shoes. For me, that’s a good trade off for a slightly less bit of energy transfer to the pedal stroke. Again, I have no plans to race, so comfort was my goal. I was very pleased with my nutrition and hydration to get me that far after only about 20 rides since a winter layoff. Was also impressed with no discomfort in my feet - I think the better insoles that suit my feet were key, and was also pleased that I didn’t have hand/wrist, neck and back issues. I’ll stay with these shoes. Every rider’s foot shape is different, but know there is very little support and a pretty flat arch in the stock insoles with this model. The right model of insole to fit one’s personal needs adds a few more dollars to the cost of these shoes, but I’d likely do the same with any higher end shoe too.

Originally got mtb/commuter shoe style like the Giro Rumble and 5/10 Hellcat. The Giro's didn't last me too long and the Hellcats were too heavy. Years ago got some Tommaso Montagna 100's as a way to try lighter road (SPD still) cycling shoes and they were very good for the money. Battered and bruised I had to get new pair for this summer and finally decided on Shimano XC3 after doing some research. I also got some Shimano MW501's for winter here in Chicago, so thought I would try Shimano again. These arrived quickly and fit like a glove. More cushion around the foot, and the BOA feels really nice; thought they would present a pinch point, but didn't.Installed some cleats and jumped on Zwift for 45 minutes and they just felt like I had them for a while, very ... MoreOriginally got mtb/commuter shoe style like the Giro Rumble and 5/10 Hellcat. Generally I'm in a bit higher price point for my clipless shoes, but I wanted a dedicated indoor spin bike/trainer shoe. I was also looking for something that was easy to get in and out. These surprised me in a good way! Obviously Shimano has a great reputation in this world, and this shoe really hits above its price point. Solid stiffness and fit, surprisingly good foot wrap with only one boa. And due to that single boa, this is the single to put on/take off clipless shoe I've had in a few decades of riding clipless. Nice bonus when I'm just jumping on the spin bike for a few minutes between meetings.
Shoe reviews can be a bit challenging, as what works for some will inevitably not work for others. That being said—with a few exceptions—these are some of the better quality entry/mid-level shoes available, and truly stand out in a pretty crowded market. The build quality is excellent, the materials feel great, and the inclusion of a BOA L6 dial on a shoe at this price makes them really shine. When paired with the clean, modern aesthetic, it makes the XC-300’s a very appealing pair of shoes. The styling was clearly borrowed from Shimano’s premium S-PHYRE collection, an elegant fabric “swoop” on which the BOA is mounted helps to provide tension across the foot.Which leads me into my only gripe with the XC-300’s, that is the uneven nature of getting them to ... MoreShoe reviews can be a bit challenging, as what works for some will inevitably not work for others. When paired with the clean, modern aesthetic, it makes the XC-300’s a very appealing pair of shoes. The styling was clearly borrowed from Shimano’s premium S-PHYRE collection, an elegant fabric “swoop” on which the BOA is mounted helps to provide tension across the foot.Which leads me into my only gripe with the XC-300’s, that is the uneven nature of getting them to comfortable tension. Achieving even tension between the toe and top of the foot leaves a bit to be desired, and causes me to have a bit more pressure at the top of my foot than I would like. This likely wouldn’t be an issue for many riders, especially those who need less vertical space in their cycling shoes, for whom these could be perfect. For me, it will require some tweaking to be truly comfortable. A good pair of Sidi or Specialized BG insoles would dramatically improve the comfort of these shoes, and this is to be expected for virtually any shoe on the market. All the weight weenies and stiffness-to-compliance ratio nerds out there will be very happy to hear that these performed well in my (admittedly very unscientific) testing. These are surprisingly very lightweight shoes, and are on par with higher end models. The reasonably lightweight nylon sole provided enough stiffness to feel efficient on my local after-work gravel loop, even when pedaling out of the saddle. It seems as though the waffle pattern on the inside of the sole increases stiffness, but gives just enough flex for the inevitable sections where “hoofing it” is required. They also provide enough off the bike comfort for a post-ride stop at your local brewery (or so I’ve heard). The XC-300’s are a great option for those gravel, XC, cyclocross or casual riders looking for a reasonably priced, feature-heavy shoe that's ready to compete with the look and performance of higher end models.Pros:-Heel cup and inner textured surface is excellent, and the cup expertly cradles your heel to prevent even the hint of heel slip-The rubber outsole (even without the higher-end Michelin rubber) is quite grippy without feeling overbuilt or clunky-BOA dial is accurate and precise, in spite of slightly uneven tension it can provide at times-The insole is surprisingly comfortable for being stock-Sleek design is reminiscent of a much more expensive pair of shoes-Reinforcement on the heel and toe, in conjunction with the raised rubber toe cap, give the impression of excellent long term durability-Nylon sole is adequately stiff for those of us who don’t race bikes for a livingCons:-Temperamental adjustment through the BOA struggles to provide even tension across the entire foot-A bit too much vertical volume in the toebox for me, but others may find it perfect, especially with a thicker insole-Shimano's sizing chart can be tricky, it's best to pay close attention to it before ordering
I got what I ordered in a fast, friendly manner. And for much cheaper than the other sites offered. For reference, I usually wear a 10.5 in Nike Airs. I also ordered the Shimano’s in 10.5 and they fit perfectly. I have a relatively flat, narrow foot and I had researched that these run narrow which is why I orders them. The BOA system cinches down quite nicely so normal to narrow feet shouldn’t have problems with fit.Performance wise, the shoes are stiff, another reason I bought them. I use these for my personal concept 2 bike. I like them so far, no hot spots and they’re plenty comfortable. Looking forward to many miles being out on these!
XC 300 Bought these shoes on September 8th. 2023. Wore them for the first time September 9, for a 6hr Mountain bike race. Big mistake, these are the most uncomfortable shoe I’ve ever worn. The side where the tongue slides down to tighten to the foot is the specific area where the shoe is very uncomfortable the spot where my small toe is positioned is also bey uncomfortable. I thought, maybe the shoe just needs to be broken in. So now it’s November 12, 2023. And the shoe is still very uncomfortable for me. I would like to return them, or get a credit and try a different shoe that fits me better. I’ve put at least 70 hours of riding with this shoe. I bought these shoes to replace a pair of 24 years old Shimano Mtn Bike shoes which fit very well. The shoes fit very well in the store and at home indoors so I mounted the cleats and began using the shoes. Mainly I ride a cross bike with 35's on roads, bike paths and park trails for two hours. The shoes were quite comfortable initially but with use I developed progressive discomfort over the head of the lateral aspect of my left foot's fifth metatarsal. As I've previously experienced the problem I attempted to mitigate this with roller-balling the plantar fascia of my foot and using a different insole. As I've previously experienced the problem I attempted to mitigate this with roller-balling the plantar fascia of my foot and using a different insole. Unsuccessful, and with progressive discomfort in my left foot, and the new onset of right large toe and forefoot discomfort, I continued to roller-ball my feet and trialed a variety of foot inserts. The problem progressed, and after trials of various (fore/aft) cleat positions, changing pedals (to a platform - Candy's) and Boa tensions I concluded the shoes are simply too rigid (the upper material and midsole) to accommodate my foot dynamics and I have stopped using the shoes. The shoe materials seem high quality and likely to be very durable so I have considered punching holes over the forefoot to make the system more flexible however I'm hoping MEC's 'Rock Solid Guarantee' will allow me to return the shoes.
I have had chance to wear these shoes for a good few miles now. The fastening is excellent easy to tighten and lossen. The overall fit is good, although it says wide fitting it doesn't feel that way. However the overall sizing is pretty accurate. They are comfortable although the low heel does feel like you are lifting out a little. They are not as stiff as road shoes but seem to give an ease on the up stroke.
Utilising a lot of the technology you find in higher-spec Shimano shoes, I thought the XC300 would be a great shoe. The fit is good – I'm typically a 44 and the 44 felt perfect. The midsole is pretty rigid – not quite as rigid as a similarly priced road shoe, but that's not a bad thing for gravel riding. The materials feel good quality, and the outer-sole has good lugs for grip. However, the BOA system is really strange. The location of the BOA dial (halfway down the shoe) meant I couldn't get the tension right. When dialling up the BOA, I found that I'd need to get over-tighten the bottom of my shoes (putting pressure on my toes), in order to get the top of the shoe to feel tight enough (so that my heel didn't lift). Alternatively, if I loosened the dial to give my toes more space, my foot wouldn't feel secure at the top of the shoe, and my heel would lift.Since the shoe has a single "lace" for the whole shoe, there's no way to redistribute the tension between your ankle and toes. Overall, because of this BOA issue, the shoes didn't work for me, so I had to return them.
