Bought for a new bike to upgrade from SLX.It has a more positive engagement as opposed to the smooth slx. And I can now drop two gears, up as well as down. Going downhill two shifts drops four gears... Super upgrade

I don't think that any single drivetrain part has changed the feel of my bike like this part. I have a mixed SLX and XT drivetrain. As parts wear, I'm replacing SLX with XT and my old shifter was 5000 series Deore. This thing makes my bike feel so much different all on its own. Huge boost in shifting response and range. Would recommend for any Shimano rider.

So far, teamed up with a Shimano XT M8100 rear derailleur, I couldn't be happier. Setup is simple, the shifting is a lot more refined over the lower tier spec. I swapped out my M6100 setup for full XT, and I can't believe how much better this setup performs. The M6100 performs great, but the XT M8100 stuff is just so well refined. The look and feel of the shifter just feels quality. Weight wise, this actually weighed the exact same as the M6100 it replaced. That same weight however (which isn't much anyway), is comprised of a much better feeling shifter mechanism. I upgraded my Shimano SLX shifter to this XT shifter and the matching XT deraileur as my old one was wearing out and did not shift very well anymore. The new XT shifter was easy to install and combined with the deraileur, greatly improved the shifting on my Turbo Levo Comp.
The shifter itself works great and the setup looks super clean with the I-Spec EV sharing a clamp with the brake lever but the range of adjustability is not very good. I prefer to have my brake levers pretty far inboard for easy one finger breaking and I have them angled downward for more XC style riding. With this brake orientation there is not enough range of motion in the I-spec adjustment to get the shifter in a good spot. I can barely reach the upshift with my index finger and I have to stretch my thumb pretty far backwards to reach the downshift which causes me to hold my bars funny and is resulting in a lot of thumb pain. This was ordered as a replacement for my SLX shifter on an e-bike. I currently have the XT shifter on another bike (standard bike). Both are good shifters but XT has more precision shifting and is double down click capable. Cambria shipped quickly. The shifter was in excellent condition. Very pleased.
Got a new Pivot that came with Shimano 12 speed drivetrain and Shimano brakes. I have Shimano 12 speed on my other bike. Bike came with an XT derailleur, SLX shifter and SLX brakes.SLX brakes work exactly like my other bike's XT brakes without the useless reach adjust screw.Shifting is a different story. Bike didn't shift that great. Vague shifting without a noticeable gear change "clunk". I decided to upgrade the shifter from the SLX to the XT. What a difference!No more vague, "mushy" gear engagement but a solid gear change with a solid engagement. I didn't expect the shifter to make that much of a difference.Highly recommend to up the shifter to XT.
I have SRAM, Shimano, and Magura components of all sorts and all levels on several bikes. Shimano components are my favorite and eventually everything will be Shimano. Typically I don't go out of my way to buy XT or higher because I don't feel like the weight savings or features are necessarily worth the money. The one exception is the XT shift lever. Something about the feel of the levers and clicks is just so much better than the SLX lever. Brakes, cassettes, etc., no real reason to by XT unless you are worried about weight. Shift lever however, XT is noticeably better.
I have been pedaling MTB's around the UK and Europe for close to 40 years. Tried most of the alternatives but still come back to XT. Others may have more bling or promise additional features but XT works straight from the box on day 1 and if you give it a little maintenance will still be going strong after 5 years.
Replaced the SRAM axs eagle trigger set up for the XT and couldn't be happier.Shifts are super smooth, absolutely love this groupsetBetter performance imho than the axs axplr and with the added reassurance of not having to deal with batteries.
