Effective brake rotor that performed well on my 3,500 mile loaded bike tour through the Rocky Mountains. Only minor issue is that I have Avid BB7 brakes and so the bolt design is a little different than the Avid rotor causing some contact between the bolts and the jutting out part of the rear brake pad while braking. As such, I have had to seat the rear wheel just a few mm rearward in the dropouts. Next time I will match up the rotor brand with my brake brand.

I paired a new 180mm rotor with an XT 4-piston brake. It took a while to bed in, but when it did, it's been the best rear brakes I have ever had. I have done the big rotor thing, and a 180mm rotor seems tiny in comparison. But for the trails I ride, the 180mm rear rotor is enough with no brake squeal.

I have a 1500W Ebike . These rotors are part of Shimano's Saint DH groupset. They lower brake temperature 100*C. They only cost about $10 more than the solid steel rotor RT76 parts. Getting rid of the heat before it gets to the brake lining or caliper is a very big deal.Lightweight, very high performance and reasonable cost.There are even higher performance Freeza versions at a premium price point -140*C.

Too bad... Another nice Shimano product has now shifted manufacturing from Japan to China. Gone is the nice braking surface that promotes bite and helps reduce break-in time. More sharp edges around the stamping is another giveaway.... oh and it says on the Rotor/Box "made in China". The orange warning label is not in the same location either. But at least the cost is more.... wait, what?Look... I get that sadly most everything bike is already made in China but Shimano had a long history of great products made in Japan that is now going away (with zero upside to the customer) just as USA manufacturing did in the "outsource" 90s and 2000s. Disappointing... especially since the legendary Shimano quality is no longer replicated. Another one bites the dust.

I was very hopeful for their performance given the impressive weight and cooling feature from the sandwiched aluminum and steel. Right out of the box these rotors were very hard to get aligned with my brakes. I have never had to bend and tweak brand new rotors to get them trued. These were horrible. I then bedded them properly by riding up and down a gradually sloped road. Then onto the trails. I noticed right away that when braking downhill, my brake pads would continue to rub on the rotors after releasing the brake lever. It wasn’t just a slight rub but a very pronounced rub. I used a digital caliper to compare the rotor thickness of my old rotors to these new ice tech rotors and noted the same thickness. In addition to the rubbing, the rotors were also very loud, whereas the cheap $10 Shimano RT56 rotors I used before were silent.So after months of frustration I finally ordered the latest Formula C2 rotors. They are the same 180mm diameter as the Rt86’s. Used the same caliper mounts, Formula Cura brakes, and the same brake pads as before. NO MORE RUBBING! And I’m back to silent braking! All for 10g more per rotor. The only thing I miss is the cool looks of the RT86’s. I don’t understand how these have such great reviews?!?! In my opinion they are basically useless. I’m not an engineer but I’m guessing the sandwiched aluminum design makes them very soft and flexible. It also makes them prone to vibration which means high brake noise. Good for looks and weight only. Performance was horrible!
I’ve used Tredz occasionally for my mtb purchases and never had issues.Unfortunately I’ve had to return this Shimano ice-tech rotor due to it being out of true from new.This is no fault of Tredz-indeed I’ve since discovered other purchasers of this variant of rotor have complained about poor quality issues ie warping.Hopefully if Tredz are aware of this there shouldn’t be a problem with a refund?I still hope to purchase other items from Tredz in future based on otherwise great service and competitive pricing.

To keep up with my roadie mates, I built up a lightweight wheelset for my 29er and went with these rotors. Hard stops from 30mph are quick and easy and there's been zero squeal so far, unlike the SLX rotors on the original wheelset. Not that it makes any real difference, but they also look way better - like an engineered product rather than a stainless disc with some bits cut out.
I was never happy with the front brake bite and power (Shimano XTR 2-pot with 180mm XT SM-RT76 disc) on my Scott Spark (MY22). I replaced the pads regularly, but no improvement. I then switched up to a 203mm SM-RT76 disc. While the braking was much improved, the front brake became grabby and juddery with the 203mm, even though my forks are rated for up to 210mm discs. So I've switched back to 180mm, with the XT SM-RT86. This seems to be the solution - smooth, quiet, powerful braking. I'm beginning to think that somehow the first 180m SM-RT76 disc was contaminated early in its life. I should probably have replaced that as well as the pads right at the beginning and saved myself the hassle. Lesson learned ...
The SM-RT86 rotors worked as expected on my trail bike riding on various trails and downhill through the bike park at Snow Summit and Snow Valley. The front did fade a bit riding at the bike park, but think that has to do with the brake pads (steel) and constant usage of the brakes going downhill. I throw my bike in my vehicle but have been very careful to not to lean the rotors against anything. The rotor during crashes have held up well, haven't experienced any bent rotors during my falls. I am not a hardcore rider so I cannot really speak to the durability this rotor can take if you are one of those hardcore riders. I'd recommend it if you find the price to be right for your riding habits.
