Awesome reel. Waited a long time for Shimano to come out with a 10 size. Back order was a bit of a wait for everyone but well worth it. Like all Shimano products it’s head and shoulders above the rest!

This is a very good reel, very powerful and smooth. I would say this is the best bang for the buck not only for the new fisherman, but also for professionals like high end private charter boat caps. After reading some information on shimano website, i would view this reel as a down sized talica.

Great reel. Happy I got the 12 It’s the perfect size to bring in big grouper and snapper. I believe it could land big ones without being a heavy reel.

Bought and used for bottom fishing out in the gulf on a 2 day trip. Handled everything very well! Went with the 16ii. Great two speed conventional reel and the quality is typical Shimano. Drag is solid and reel is built very well. Paired it with Shimano Tallus. Probably pick up the 12 down the road.
This is a great reel at a great price. I have a few Talica 20's and a few Speedmaster 20's... The Speedmaster's are just as good as the Talica's, but much less expensive.
Light reel with a great handle that provides good leverage for large fish. Very smooth operation. Strong drag. The first time out I reeled in a number of 15 lb grouper and large snapper and had no issue with a 36" amberjack.
Bought this last fall, 2019, thinking "How can this reel be any good at this price." It is made to handle pretty much any tuna caught in the ocean charter boats out of San Diego, Southern California. It worked perfectly with the bluefin's I nailed. The drag was smooth and tight, as well as no slipping. The 2 speed is a very nice feature. This is surely well worth the money. Are there better reels on the market, maybe, but not at this price.
Size 16 a little BIG, I should of purchased the size 12. I fish for haddock, cod, and pollack the 12 would have been a perfect size. The 2 speed is great fight a heavy fish in low gear it reels in very easy.
I do mostly bottom fishing off the west coast of Florida and it's perfect for Snapper , Grouper and AJ's. Holds more than enough braid/mono . Not as smooth as say the Salitga's or such but at half the price it's something the working man can live with
After 3 speedmaster purchases both for myself and friends I can highly recommend the shimano speedmaster 2LD as a good all rounder. Looking forward to up my own collection with an additional 2 once they are available :)
