I got this as a birthday gift last year and absolutely love this combo! Casting with this rod can be a little tough with lighter lures but can be done. I mainly use this for shaky heads and heavier ned rigs. Love how smooth the reel is.

This combo is silky smooth. I have the 7 ft 2000 version. For the price you can't beat it , but then again it's a shimano - what more needs to be said !

Quality medium power, fast action combo. The reel is the star of this combo. Rod is average, nothing special about it. Very light weight. I use 12lb flouro on mine and have had no problems with this combo so far, has been a very reliable addition.

Got this combo for pier fishing and also for bass.Feels great in the hand and is smooth as butter to reel. I got the 4000 size for the bigger spool but it’s as lightweight as a 3000. My only gripe about it is the foam came creased. The two piece design makes it easy to transport. I would recommend this combo.
I’ve been on cheap Kmart rods all my life. I bought this rod and it has changed everything, the rod is nice and light and is very responsive to bites and hits. The reel is just as good with its ultra smooth drag and lightweight design. This is the best rod ever!!!!!

Bought the combo being it was Shimano brand It felt smooth at the store. However 2 trips to the water and was having trouble reeling it. No biggie figured it just needed to be oiled. When I went to oil it I noticed surface rust on the main shaft. After looking closes and inspecting the components of this reel. I came to the conclusion these reels have a Carbon steel main shaft. Problem with a carbon shaft vs stainless is you get surface rust along the shaft surface making it rough and hard to reel just after a few trips to the water especially saltwater.In all I do not recommend this combo to anyone after discovering the shafts in these reels are carbon steel. Excellent. Although the rod is very stiff. It's not a bad thing, just keep it in mind when purchasing. The reel is excellent.
Great setup. Perfect for finnese bass fishing. Reel is awesome and rod isn't bad either. But the reel is better then the rod. But as a whole it gets it done like most shimano products
I primarily fish for bass from the shoreline using a Texas rig and have been very happy with the performance of this rod and reel combo. One teeny tiny qualm that I had was that academy did have a medium rod combo as I find the medium heavy a tad stiff for smaller bass.
