$395.00

(113 reviews)

Sets the bar for water resistance The Shimano Tranx 400A Baitcaster Reel is the next level in saltwater-proof baitcaster reels. It features the CoreProtect Concept, which means the Tranx range has greatly improved water resistance while still maintaining a "free" feel when winding. This reel is ideally suited to most baitcasting applications, like soft-baiting, light jigging and casting small and medium-sized Shimano stick-baits. The Shimano Tranx baitcaster reels are ergonomic in the hand, pack more than enough drag, are built sold and have set the bar in the field of water resistance. You get a fishing reel with ultra-light handle rotation, needing less effort and power, which results in perfect rotation even under heavy loads. HAGANE Body HAGANE Body means this reel has a high rigidity and zero twist. The body stiffness and impact resistance virtually eliminates body flexing. The result transforms the anglers actions directly into cranking power. It's efficiency through strength. For a baitcaster reel that holds its own in the water, definitely try out the Shimano Tranx 400A Baitcaster Reel!

I picked up this reel about 5 months ago. I picked up the 401hg and put it on the new trevala px split grip jigging casting stick and it was a match made in heaven. This reel like every other shimano is absolutely buttery smooth and has great drag that never sticks. I’m from the north east and use this set up to jig for togs, sea bass, stripers, etc… This reel is a total beast and I had no problems pulling fish out of rocks and other structures. I really enjoy this fishing this reel and have nothing bad to say about it. Worth every penny for this reel. As long as you don’t get a defective reel you won’t be disappointed.

This Tranx reel is bulletproof! This is a tough, no holds barred solid reel. This thing casts like a dream. It is very smooth when retrieving hard pulling lures and hard fighting fish. I love their simplicity when lubricating the gears and bearings. If you’re looking for a reel to last year’s and not let you down, this is it.

Great reel without the bird nesting headache!

Overall an awesome reel! Using a traditional casting reel with 1/4oz lures, I would bird nest almost every time I tried to really whip the lure for some distance. The DC braking system almost entirely eliminates bird nesting. I can now whip 1/4oz lures every bit of 30yds consistently. The 4 stage brake is great for applying different distances while still using the same amount of casting power. If you’re considering this reel, quit hesitating. It’s worth every penny

Great reel. Complaints seem to come from beginners who think it’s supposed to be 100% backlash free.

Looks like James B is a newbie to fishing. James if you are upset because the lady you spoke to tried to talk you out of a spinning rod for your baitcaster I doubt you would be happy with anything. She was trying to steer you in the right direction as spinning rods aren’t made for baitcasters. If you want a spinning rod you should get a spinning reel.I went in to get the Curado DC but they were out. I decided to get the SLX and save a few bucks in case I didn’t like the new technology. For an experienced angler there may be a slight learning curve if you thumb your spool because you have to train yourself NOT to thumb it. If you don’t like the idea just set it to 1 and it will perform more like your traditional baitcaster and just use the other settings for windy or harsh conditions.Great reel, now I’m sold on the Curado DC.

Very good reel. There tends to be a drag issue that there sometimes is almost no drag right after I just tighten the drag, its not a design issue, and it is not a materialsor quality issue, its a factory assembly issue. And to fix the problem typically it just takes removing the drag washers and putting it back together.

I’m saving up to buy another one!
19 July 2021

I bought this for throwing bucktails and larger soft plastics (1-3oz) and it does this very well! I wanted it to be a heavier setup I keep on my kayak Incase an opportunity presented itself on a big striper or a big cobia. So far I have only caught big specks and schoolie sized bass. It is easy to manage and pairs well the the bigger baits. The handle is amazing too. I put a oz egg sinker on and I can cast well over my barn which sits 88 yards away and is 25’ tall.

Like all the Shimano Reels I have, this one is awesome. So smooth, so strong. I use it for swimbait fishing Calico Bass. Has done well when the yellowtail interfere.....(wish that happened more...lol). I fish out of a Kayak this reel is one of my all stars.

Shimano Tranx 300

I would highly urge anglers that use heavy baits to give this a shot. Its been advertised and shown time and time again that the Tranx is a staple in the heavy bait category. I love the single handle, and fast gear ratio. I have mine on an Abu Veritas 7' 9" Heavy and it throws 3 oz baits with ease. Feathering the spool on this is not as easy than on a smaller profile reel, but with a few meters under a full spool, you can control the spool easier. Casts a mile and the drag is SMOOTH. The bearings inside are very high quality and I inspected them when I picked up the reel and as one could imagine from Shimano, the internals are gorgeous. Very clean and precise. Its worth every penny.

Well what can i say, the Shimano Tranx 300a.hg has outstripped all my expectations, an awesome reel, i was casting into 25plus knots of breaze yesterday and it just killed the conditions, a 70grm lazer no probs. Teamed with a samaki zing extreme 8footer, no fish that day but i gave it a serious work out, the tranx 300hg is a joy to cast with, i didn't wanna stop, but i felt the onset frost bite, lol mornington can be bitterly cold. All in all a seriously smooth reel in every aspect, love it i highly recommend it as well as Otto's fantastic fast shipping and a great deal on my real.

This reel came highly recommended and it hasn’t disappointed! I paired it with my 8’6” heavy Mojo muskie rod and love it! Since this purchase, I’ve paired the Tranx 301 with my 8’6” med-heavy Premier muskie rod, and a Tranx 201 to my 7’3” med-heavy Fenwick bass rod. I’m now deciding on which Tranx reel to mount to my 7’6” Triumph heavy muskie rod. The 400 seems the right choice for heavy bait, however the 300 feels better on the rod, and it in my hand. Their is a considerable size difference between the two! Not so much of a weight difference. I’ll likely go with the 301 because it will also pair up nicely with other bass rods…. Their pricey! But I like them!!!
