This is my second one of these reels. I bought one last spring and couldn't be happier. The reel definitely casts further than all my peen spin fishers. Coming with an extra spool is a bonus. Caught several blues, bass, and rays with this reel with zero issues.

If your looking for a great Long casting surf reel look no farther. This is one of the best surf reels you can buy. This is my 3rd Ultegra. My other 2 have given me 6 years of trouble free casting. I put this reel on my Century Surf Machine.

I figured since the previous Ultegra CI4 Plus (ULCI45500XSB Ultegra CI4 Plus XSB) performed very well for my kind of fishing, I would purchase this newer ULTCI45500XTC Ultegra CI4 Plus as a second reel since the XSB is no longer available. For me, the XTC did not perform as well over the past eight months of fishing as did my older XSB. Everything is comparable except the quick drag feature proved to be cumbersome on this newer version. The main problem is that it is not predictable due to consistency and/or precision with the drag. With the XSB, I can rely on “clicks†either way for predicable quick drag pressure. So far so good only had it out a few times casts big lures nice as well as smaller stuff. Have it paired up with a st.croix surf rod haven't caught anything huge yet but it's handled med sized fish with no problems.
I also own Shimano XTD reels. The pricier C-14, does not perform significantly better. In my opinion the quality of this reel appears the same as the less pricy XTD surf reel. I recently fished a tournament and used both reels for two full days. I could not tell much difference if any at all between the two reels. I believe both reel's come with a spare spool and the same amonnt of line reduction spacers.
I own two Ultegra Ci4 reels now & have had no problems with them. I bought my first 3 years ago and the other recently. I like the new blacked out design, it feels even a little more solid. As long as you have the spacing right on your guides, these reels cast really far.My usual reels are Stellas so I use the Ultegra's more for long cast situations.
The bail fails to close automatically unless it is manually flipped closed. I lubed the pivot point soon as I noticed it right after I took it out of the box, but after 5 days of field use it still does not automatically flip. Could be a weak spring.
Got the reel last Saturday, very good service and fast delivery. Had some questions and they helped in everything that I needed.This reel is amazing, it does absutely everything it says. You will be able to cast miles...Came with one extra spool and 6 line reducers (2x 3500, 2x 6000 and 2x 1000). One spool has 20lb with 6500 reducer and another one with 50lb with 10000 reducer, both power pro braid.Thanks
I have used this reel to hook some large fish from the beaches down here in Southern Baja California, Mexico. From the beaches, Dorado, Jacks, Rooster fish and others. The drags are excellent. I would highly recommend this reel. Couple of fish photos caught with this reel.
I used this reel on a 10' ODM Genesis at the CC Canal. It is versatile and performs at a high level. I am not the most careful person with my gear and this reel never skipped a beat. It asts beautifully and I was throwing everything from epoxies to large pencil poppers. I can't recommend this reel enough.
