I had a lot of problems with this helmet right from the start. I had a previous generation air helmet and based my purchase and sizing on that lid. Mistake. This helmet does
not fit as the previous air helmet did. It is incredibly noisy and wind specifically blasts the ear area where the comm system is designed to be placed. Even with ear plugs
riding with the air II was unpleasant-the air flow pushed under the helmet and felt like it was lifting off my head, and my ear area was always cold. On hot days the air II is a
pretty good helmet because of the venting and air flow but any cooler conditions and it is a misery. The main thing I would recommend would be to really pay at... Show more

I bought a GT Air II as my first helmet about 4.5yr ago because I wanted a helmet that I was excited to wear. It looked great and felt awesome. The helmet feels quality, has an
easily-interchangable visor system, and is delightfully quiet even while pulling highway speeds on my R nineT. 4.5yr and thousands of comfortable miles of touring later, the
safety side of things was finally tested when I lowsided in a corner. Pic shows the aftermath - leg was shattered in 7 places, but my head is absolutely fine. Would absolutely
recommend. The helmet is expensive, but I feel it's pretty easy to justify. I also used the integrated SENA unit for music and intercom and loved it.

After six years, the liner seemed to have disintegrated and one day when taking it out to dry it out, it just fell apart. The liners are discontinued which bothers me because I can see getting another six years out of the helmet if a liner were acquired. But I digress. So after much hesitation I started looking for a replacement a few weeks ago. It took me several weeks to settle on a helmet. I considered a Schuberth C5 as a replacement but when priced out was beyond what I was willing to pay, given this was an unexpected purchase. Shoei modulars are great but are about $100 more expensive (not including the graphics which then bump up the price even further) than a GT Air II. I was not sure I would love a full-face helmet but the price of the GT Air II was just right for me. I purchased one in shiny black WITHOUT the optional comm system.I am honestly very impressed. It fits very comfortably right out of the box. Cheek pads are comfortable. There are no hot spots. I wear a 2XL helmet, round oval headshape, size 63 cm at the brow. I am bald with my hair buzzed at the sides/back. The sizing chart size indicates I am between a 2XL and 3XL and the 2XL fits great. The helmet seemed to fog up once for the first 5 minutes of riding but then never did it again (I think I just figured out the vent settings). Installing the (INCLUDED) Pinlock screen was easy. The vents allow way better air flow then the Neotec ever did, although I still think it could be improved. The noise level is much quieter so now I can wear my iPod earbuds and listen to my music. Visibility is great and the helmet feels solid. I LOVE the rachet system instead of the D rings (which the Neotec had). So much easier to connect and undo the straps with one gloved hand (had to take my gloves off with the Neotec D rings). The straps could be longer as my neck is large. I have the straps fully extended and it is comfortable but I could use maybe a centimeter more space between the straps and my neck. My 29 year-old son, who also rides, thinks the helmet is badass.I have a Brakefree brake light on my helmet and the light fits perfectly on the back of the helmet.I had a buggy, unreliable and expensive Sena comm system for my Neotec modular that only partially worked for one riding season in Colorado (where I am originally from) but then never worked again so I am VERY hesitant to shell out another $300 for another Sena system. I honestly will be looking at reviews of riders who chose to use a different system because I will never buy another Sena system--a waste of money and more plastic garbage for the landfill. That is the only reason I am giving this a 4 star instead of 5 star review. Sena is just awful. I am sticking with my earbuds for now for music as I wear a thin beanie, also purchased from Revzilla that keeps them in place when I take my helmet on/off.... Show more

Fantastic commuter helmet, don't recommend for a sport bike
23 April 2024
I've had this helmet for 3-ish years and its held up fine and still works great to protect my melon. Wore it in ideal conditions, in the rain, off-road, for 700+ day rides and I can confidently recommend it for a commuter/daily.Pros:QuietEasy to latch with the fancy thingyThe drop down visor is FANTASTIC for commuting, I pretty much keep the visor open and the drop down to cover my eyes below 50mphPinlock system is awesomeAirflow is good on summer days and can be fully closed on winter days, I always though it was comfy but I'm not too bothered by being a lil sweaty or a lil cold.Cons:It's a bit on the heavy side, but I don't think its absurd for helmets with the secondary visorThe neck profile on this helmet really prefers upright riding, on my zx6r this ... MoreI've had this helmet for 3-ish years and its held up fine and still works great to protect my melon. Great helmet, just research the headset situation first if you plan to use one
9 May 2023
I've had 4 helmets so far and this is unquestionably the best one. The fit and visibility are great and it's true to size. It's very quiet, the drop-down sun shield activation is very smooth and the top air vent really makes a difference. I can actually feel the wind on the top of my head unlike the helmets I've had before. I love the ratcheting chin strap as well. The headset situation is a mixed bag. Could be good or bad for you considering your situation. Since it has a dedicated place for the Sena headset, that works great if you want to get that but it messes up placement for any other headset. I caved and bought a Sena headset but it is really nice and integrates well. Great Quality Helmet!
28 December 2023
I love the features of in this helmet. The removable padding, Pinlock Anti-Fog Leg, and Built-In QSV-2 sun shield is great. I like the ratchet chin strap, but it needs to be repositioned due to putting pressure on my Adams Apple. My main reason for giving this helmet three stars is due to Shoei catering this helmet to the Sena SRL 2 Communication System. I prefer the Cardo PackTalk Edge for many reasons. If the molded cutouts for the speakers and microphone was just a little larger in diameter, the helmet would work for other communication systems. The channel for the microphone wiring is on the left side of the helmet. If the channel was on both sides, it would work for other communication systems. I had to tape my microphone wiring to the right side of the helmet ... MoreI love the features of in this helmet. The removable padding, Pinlock Anti-Fog Leg, and Built-In QSV-2 sun shield is great. It's like the original air, but now without ventilation or a good way to mount coms!
20 June 2024
I had the original GT Air and loved it, but this GT Air 2 is not worth it. Not nearly as much airflow as the original, which is kind of the main point of this helmet, so that alone is not good; however, they managed to make it even worse. Most people by know know that it was designed to fit one specific com unit that builds into it perfectly; however, that all gets in the way and makes it very difficult to mount any other com system. Worst of all, the only com system that fits is not even top of the line, so you have to get what was never a great system, and is not totally outdated system. As mentioned, there really isn't much ventilation in it anymore, and the top vent cover I can never remember if forward or backward is open or closed, and even at freeway speeds ... MoreI had the original GT Air and loved it, but this GT Air 2 is not worth it. The optical quality of the sunshade leaves a lot to be desired, especially from such a big name and a premium price tag! Lastly, the snaps that hold the internals in place are super weak and are constantly failing, so I have to make sure all the snaps are properly in place each time I put it on, or the internal pieces will be all out of place.... NO D Ring
15 June 2024
I'm not 100% sold on the ratchet strap instead of a traditional D ring strap. I might not have purchased the GT Air II had I been more observant when ordering the helmet sight unseen. This is my 3rd Shoei helmet. I purchased the GT Air II to replace the prior GT Air which was a D ring strap helmet. I'm getting used to it. Without the D ring the first realization was not being able to use the helmet lock on the bike without modifying the helmet. I ended up purchasing a D ring at the local hardware store and adding it to the strap for the sole purpose of securing the helmet from theft. This is a total miss by Shoei in my view. I DO like the fit and the internal sun visor though. Also added the SENA Bluetooth set up. Shoei Great Quality
6 July 2024
Finally broke down & purchased my latest Shoei helmet, the GT-Air II in Matte Black medium size. Arrived 3 days after ordering. I had been putting off replacing my old GT-Air but now wish I had done it earlier. The vent system seems better & the fit/feel also seems better. Been using Shoei helmets for more than 25 years, & their quality is just as great as every. Saw some comments on how noisy it is, but I find that it it as good or better than previous Shoei s I've had. Have decided not to try the SRL Bluetooth headset due to the comments/reviews & at that price point if it was to not work as advertised, couldn't return.... Show more

Shoei GT-Air II Helmet - comfortable, cool & quiet.
6 June 2024
I've had my Shoei GT-Air II Helmet for a few weeks now, over all I like it, comfortable, cool and quiet. Previously I've owned Arai's, most recently the Arai Corsair V. Arai to me has better air flow and seems a little lighter. The Shoei does seem to be a little quieter. I have a R1200RS with small fairing and windshield, in the lower position air breaks around my neck. I'm sure noise and airflow will be affected by your ride position as well as windscreen height.I do love the ratcheted chin strap over the D-ring, super nice.Sadly, I agree with other reviewers that have mentioned the ratcheted outer shield is a pain. I dislike having to reach so far forward and sometimes it flexes. My Corsair V was very comfortable and easy to flip the shield up or adjust to slightly open for additional air flow, it is not ratcheted so very smooth and it never flexed. The Shoei inner shield or sun visor lever I'm still learning to locate, I'm sure after some more time it will feel more natural to just put my hand right where the lever is instead of fumbling around trying to find it - since I wear prescription glasses I must lift the shield before taking off the helmet (The inner shield/sun visor lever seems too far back, while the outer shield adjust is too far forward - for me)I removed the Shoei chin shield for increased airflow, my Aria Corsair had a built-in chin deflector that would fold out and could be returned easily, which is nice for those really cold mornings and easy return for warm afternoons. Since I have saddle bags I can carry the Shoei chin piece, but I preferred the convenience of the Corsair though the Shoei gives more coverage. Also to note for any other BMW riders, my medium Shoei barely fits in my saddle bags. Even though the medium Arai has air vents on the top it fit perfectly in the saddle bags, the Shoei is wider and taller. So, a few little issues which over time will no longer be noticeable. My favorite part is the inner shield /sun visor for the fighter pilot look, lol.... Show more
