The product overall is excellent, I only wish that it had a slot for a scissor. I knew that before I ordered but I needed all of the slots and not having a scissor slot was a compromise that I had to take.

I was so excited to find a Shun knife block to store not only my collection of Shun Premier knives but also my steak knives. Right? What a disappointment to discover that my Shun Premier steak knives do NOT fit in the steak knife slots, at the front of this storage block! I should have returned it. Now my Shun Premier steak knives are in a drawer, and my old “funky” steak knives are in the block with my amazing Shun Premier knives. So not right!!! Shame on me for not returning this block ... great idea ... bad execution.
It’s made from thin layers of bamboo which peel apart or just separates causing cracks. I haven’t even unwrapped it yet.
Love this cutting block!
We have this block, it accommodates most of our shoe knives beautifully. However, it says it holds six steak knives at the bottom in the description. But the Shun steak knives don’t fit. Other than that it’s a nice block.
Now sure why, but Shun produces 5" steak knives (very expensive) and offers a knife block that does NOT hold Shun 5" steak knives. Who designs a knife block that does not fit the company's own product? I received both items (steak knives and block) for Christmas, and will be returning them. I also have to say that the steak knives (not the Premier ones) are extremely uncomfortable in my hand - the blade protrudes on both the top and bottom of the knife. People don't want to handle this kind of knife to cut a steak - the knife should be smooth.
The block was not packaged well. It came in a bag. Causing the corners to get damaged. This should have been shipped in a box with some cushioning.Should have ordered from someone other then Shun.I feel ordering directly from Shun was a mistake. The individuals that work for the company or the individuals responsible for validating how an item is packed do not care about how the customer receives the product once it's paid for.I have purchased shun products from William Sonoma and William Sonoma packages items very well with no damage.
Block is very versatile and holds many culinary tools and knives
