This microphone is in great shape, as described, with the grille having flat surfaces instead of the round which would be normal. It doesnt affect the performance whatsoever! Looks a little different but a man on a fast horse wouldnt notice a thing! Works great!

Industry standard mic for bands, dj's, auctioneers, press conferences, churches, etc. THIS 40 year old tech is good but as tech gets better there are better frequency responses from other mics as the same price. But its built like a tank and still can compete as a workhorse for musicians. The bass is good and the gain could be better but it matches db's with other mics for your mixer. Seinheisers will run circles around this mic for gain, but the flat response is legendary.

This mic is nowhere near as good as the Sennheiser e835 or even the Beta 58A, but it's the standard, so it's a must-have in every sound guy's mic locker. I don't use the SM58 unless it's the first choice of the performer. On most monitors and FOH systems, the SM58 is like swimming in a sea of mud. If your system is based on woofers and projection horns, be prepared for completely unclear audio and tons of EQ. If you're performing at a live venue, again, be ready for unclear audio and tons of EQ. Many people will look at this mic as one all the performers use, so it must be good. I have plenty of experience with authentic, genuine Shures (not the fakes that are popping up on eBay these days), and my opinion is 1000% different. The only way any performer is using it live is with tons of EQ. Otherwise, this mic is borderline unusable in any live situation. If you drop it, it will survive. That's probably the best thing about the SM58. Otherwise, buy a Sennheiser e835 (which sells new for $20 less than the SM58 on Amazon) or Beta 58A. They'll both blow the pants off an SM58 any day.

Great mic. Industry standard for good reason. I bought this microphone to replace and older microphone from a different brand. When you stop and consider the selling price of these today to what they sold for back nearly 30 years ago, the price has just about stayed the same. So when adjusting for inflation, these great mics are as cheap as they have ever been. Get one for yourself.
I have owned and used the Shure SM58 microphones for years in a live music environment. I have never experienced a failure with this model. They are tough and are some of the best sounding mics on the market. I use them in my music group and I use them for professional sound reinforcement gigs with our sound company. They are probably the most commonly used and respected microphone in the audio industry. The price of a Shure SM58 is within reach of any person who requires excellence and performance without compromise. In 25 to 30 years of experience with these mics ,I have never known of a failure occuring, nor have I ever met anyone who regretted buying one or more of these mics. I will say, that I have sometimes been amazed at people I knew or met who would drop a ... MoreI have owned and used the Shure SM58 microphones for years in a live music environment. In 25 to 30 years of experience with these mics ,I have never known of a failure occuring, nor have I ever met anyone who regretted buying one or more of these mics. I will say, that I have sometimes been amazed at people I knew or met who would drop a couple thousand dollars on an instrument like a guitar in the quest of aquiring the best, and them be too "tight" or " cheap" to pay from $50.00 to $125.00 for a mic that is legendary and used by more performing artists than all the other mic models combined. I always wondered why they watched all of the pros use these and could never figure that out. I personally play guitar and sing onstage several times each month and I will not be on stage without my SM58. When I listen to a vocal performance, I can tell you, the vocal carries the message.....the guitar or whatever helps deliver that message. I think that when most people understand that principle, the choice is clear and easy. Do yourself a favor and use a Shure SM58. You will not regret it. It was very much a pleasure for me to write this review on a product I use and believe in so much. Best Wishes, JKSDURANGO
These microphones will forever be the best ones out there. These are my go to microphones and can we dropped millions of times and still work. Love the Sm 58 for life
Great reliable front line mic, easy mix, industry vocal standard for decades. Never failed me ever!!
If you are looking for a high fidelity studio microphone, this is not it. It does sound good but it's not that type of mic. However if you are looking for a solid mic that can be used and abused on stage night after night, this is it. This is the choice of professionals. This mic is the industry standard for live performances. This mic is the vocal version of the SM57 which is for instruments. Nobody will ever laugh at you for showing up with this mic. There is no on/off switch to accidentally be in the wrong position. Heart shaped pickup pattern to cut down on noise and feedback. Balanced output means no cable hum. These are perfect for use on podiums or on stage at meetings, churches, clubs, auditoriums, theatre, and karaoke. If you have to replace this mic, it will be due to theft not failure.
I've bought and sold several hundred pro audio items on Ebay, and out of nowhere [LOL] they ask me to write two reviews, both about the legendary Shure SM 58. The pros know what's up. As for the rest of you who might be interested, the SM 58 and its counterpart SM 57 provide an unbeatable combination of dependability, durability and predictability. No need to be afraid of buying a used one as long as the lister is truthful. I bought two 58s and two 57s on the same day on Ebay. I got a good value. I have a few high-end, rare and 'precision' mics, but I still use the SM series. As I have other 58s, I will be customizing these by removing the transformers and changing the electronics for my own purposes. Also, there are transformers you can buy from pro audio dealers ... MoreI've bought and sold several hundred pro audio items on Ebay, and out of nowhere [LOL] they ask me to write two reviews, both about the legendary Shure SM 58. Also, there are transformers you can buy from pro audio dealers to modify the SM 57/58 for different musical effect. Most will have no need for this type of customization, but for those want a durable and dependable workhorse of a good sounding microphone for speech, instrument or song, the SM 57/58 series will get the job done in a reliable and predictable fashion.
this is a knockoff version of shure...either that or really poor construction. the mic capsule literally jiggles inside it causing all kinds of noise. the capsule has to be glued in place. will not buy any more of these
