SHURE-SRH440A Over-Ear Wired Headphones

Tried the Sony Pro at the same price point and was very disappointed. Not comfortable at all. And kinda cheap. Immediately went back to the Shure SRH440. Comfortable enough for all day use. Real Pro. They added the detachable cord which is nice. Last pair lasted years. Full sound. Great value.

This is my second pair of Shure SRH440s. The first pair lasted the better part of a decade until the small external wire that connects the two cups got frayed internally. I tried doing a repair myself but couldn't manage it so I bought a new pair.To my ear, these headphones are very clear and transparent which is great because I use them for mixing vocals and piano, in addition to every day use. They are comfortable and adjustable.

I bought a pair of SRH440s about four years ago after hearing positive things about the Shure brand. I tried them out in-store (East Hamilton Radio - not Staples) and they sounded great - better than any headphones I had had prior, so I bought them. I have used them extensively, but by no means have I mistreated them or subjected them to any kind of use outside of ordinary listening. Despite my attempts at treating them well, they are now broken. The left side of the overhead brace assembly where it attaches to the ear piece has cracked and the integrity of the headphones is compromised. The left earpiece will no longer stay on my ear, making the headphones virtually unusable. The right side is starting to show stress marks in the plastic, and is not far from suffering the same fate.This is such a shame, since the actual headphone components and cable are still functioning, and the sound is still just as excellent as when I bought them. I blame this structural flaw on an overuse of plastic in the design, especially on areas that receive a high degree of stress and flex.Beware of the materials used when buying headphones, and make sure that the areas that receive the most wear and stress will hold up. In this case they didn't, and now I'm on the hunt for studio headphones once again.
