Is this as good as a fixed aperture f4? No. It also doesn't cost $12k. The Sigma 150-600 S is maybe the best value lens I've owned. The image stabilization works very well - the two photos attached to this review were handheld at 600mm in fading light (on a Panasonic S1R that also has IS). I wish it was internal zoom and weighed half as much, but that's not realistic, and IMO it crushes the 100-400 image quality. Of course, it also gives you that extra 200mm on the long end.I haven't used it with continuous AF tracking enough to comment on that aspect, but all other AF functions have worked just like the Panasonic lenses for me. I have no reason to think it's an issue on the lens side.The padded carry bag that comes with it is very nice, if enormous. I also like the unique hood/fabric lens cap combo (it also includes a conventional lens cap if you prefer that). Generally, I prefer staying 100% native glass, but the L mount system is working out nicely here between Panasonic and Sigma. I also have the 70-200 f2.8 and a 2x TC, but greatly prefer this lens. For $1500 USD this is a no-brainer for those shooting FF L Mount and looking for that extra reach. Just be aware of possible miscommunication with certain Leica bodies.

I purchased this lens to add additional focal length to my lineup for shooting soccer. I was a bit hesitant on the minimum aperture for the fully extended zoom, especially shooting night games, but it has handed exceptionally well when paired with the Sony A7III. Focus has been tack sharp and quick as any lens I've used. The OS is great, even at 600mm on a windy day. My main gripe is how heavy and slow the zoom is to operate, even on the setting with least resistance. I have 5+ years experience shooting professional soccer so I know the flow and movements of the game, but I was struggling to quickly zoom in and capture game action. It's not a huge deal, but it's noticeable compared to my other internal zoom 70-200.

First off, this is a massive lens. While you can definitely handhold it on the side of the field, you'll definitely want a monopod if you want to get clear longer shots. I use this from the bleachers at football games, and 600mm is more than enough to get to mid-field and focus on a single player.Images look great. I was expecting a little light loss around the edges, but I haven't seen any so far. I also haven't noticed any chromatic aberration, but I'm still early on shooting with this.The focus range switch is a must-have when you're shooting at distance in Continuous AF mode, otherwise the focus can sometimes go through it's entire range causing you to miss an action shot. Sigma lenses zoom with the same rotation as Canon lenses but in the opposite direction of Sony lenses. So you'll have to train your brain to rotate the zoom in the opposite direction when you're using this lens on your Sony.
