Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens - Fujifilm X-Mount
The Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary is the world's first interchangeable lens for mirrorless Sony E-Mount cameras with APS-C format sensors. It offers a field of view equivalent to a 24mm focal length in 35mm full-frame format and a maximum aperture of F1.4. In the Micro Four Thirds mount, the lens's field of view corresponds to a 32mm focal length in 35mm full-frame format, also providing an aperture value of F1.4. It is the high-speed wide-angle lens that photographers with mirrorless cameras have been waiting for. DN lenses for mirrorless cameras are characterized by a lightweight, compact design that is built for everyday use and delivers outstanding performance across all key focal lengths. The 16mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary builds on the success of the 30mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary, which Sigma released in 2016 as the first lens in a series of prime lenses for mirrorless cameras. It combines the brightness of F1.4 with optical excellence. The 16mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary, which follows the same development concept as the Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary, features a lens construction of 16 elements in 13 groups and is made from high-quality materials. This lens effectively minimizes optical aberrations and delivers excellent resolution even at wide open apertures and throughout the entire aperture range. The lens design and stepping motor also provide smooth autofocus during video recording, and the mount is dust and splash resistant due to a sealing.

I use the Lumix G9 and have a wide variety of lenses in my collection. After hearing about Sigma, I decided to try out their products. I purchased the 16mm M4/3 lens. This lens does not disappoint. The pictures that come out of this lens are very sharp. I have also used this lens at night and the pictures always came out very nicely. The aperture goes all the way to a bright F1.4.The lens is has a premium feel to it. The focusing ring is very smooth and the materials are very nice to the touch. For the price of only $399.99, this is a steal.

Photography is a hobby for me and because of that, I personally can't justify premium quality lenses and prices. However, I still want quality photos. This 16mm sigma lens met that challenge and produces good results for the price. It is much larger and heavier than other wide angle lenses, but I haven't found that to be a hinderance. I still travel with it and can carry it around easily enough. It's just an adjustment coming from the Sony 16mm pancake lens. For the reason of size and weight I did take 1 star off the review.Bottom line: I'm happy with the sharpness and fast aperture. It's a great upgrade from the kit lens that came with my Sony a6300. I will be using this lens a lot. It has proven effective at night and in slot canyons of Utah in low light ... I am a long time photo hobbyist and have had the great fortune of shooting with Canon, Nikon, and most recently Olympus. I have also been able to use multiple lens from these manufacturers with varying degree of quality but usually there are as good as I expected. Generally, when I buy a lens, I read reviews and gather other's experience. This lens has has very good reviews so I was expecting a pretty good lens. I must say that I was completely surprised at how great the quality of these lens was...it far exceeded any expectations. I have been using it with both the Olympus OMD E-M1 and E-M1 II and the results are terrific. Fast focus, the colors pop, and the detail is exceedingly sharp. I have never submitted a review before but I had to for this lens. For the ... I bought this lens by mistake thinking it was a full frame lens. I own the Sony 20mm f/1.8 and I tried to use it inside my car with my Sony A7IV and it was just not quite wide enough. So, I found this lens and I thought 16mm would be perfectly wide to shoot inside my car. However, when I received it, I noticed it is an APS-C lens (my bad) and my first thought was to return it. But, I decided to at least try it to see how bad the vignetting was going to be. First, I need to change a setting on my A7IV called 'APS-C S35 Shooting' from Auto to Off. Then, the camera will disable the auto cropping it automatically applies to APS-C lenses. And I tried it and the vignetting is not that bad and it works for my particular situation. Then, the camera will disable the auto cropping it automatically applies to APS-C lenses. And I tried it and the vignetting is not that bad and it works for my particular situation. There's vignetting only on the corners and the darkness blends well with my frame (inside my car). Check the still frame I am attaching, so you can see what I mean. Then, the lens is super sharp, and the auto focus works essentially like a native Sony lens on a Sony body. Consequently, I am keeping the Sigma 16mm to make these videos inside my car. And the price is quite inexpensive for such a wonderful lens. I highly recommend you to buy it or at least try it. You can always return it if it doesn't work for your particular situation. Cheers!
I constantly use this lens for my YouTube videos. It has great wide lens and the quality is amazing. I love the F1.4, and for talking head videos, I do not need big softbox lights to create a soft light look. The lens produces great bokeh. The lens is very light. The only downside is the lens is a little bit too big compared to other lenses with the similar focal length. However, with it's price point and what you get out of this, I highly recommend this lens for APSC photographers and video creators.
This lens is quite sharp, focus is fast, weight is to be expected on a f/1.4 wide angle. And the price is a steal.I have a long (40+) year history with Sigma products and one thing that hasn't gotten much better is their quality control and consistency. The first one of these lenses I got could not focus on anything. It thought it was in focus, but not even close. The second lens nailed focus. It's a tiny bit less sharp in one corner, but only on close examination. It's worth noting I'm using a m43 camera; on a APS camera, a soft corner would be more noticeable since you're using more of the image circle on the larger APS sensor. All in all, I recommend this lens, but do check yours. It's Sigma, not Zeiss, so trust but verify.
Normally a bit softness of the image away from image center is expected at wide open for a fast lens, but this lens shows more than just softness. The image away from the center is doubled. I bought this mainly for astrophotography, as you can imagine, having the stars doubled is the last thing I want in my photos.Visible CA all the way to f/8. In fact I didn't even bother testing anything beyond f/8 as I was already extremely disappointed. CA was corrected by software as it disappears in jpeg, nothing can correct the doubled image though.
I’m relatively new to understanding all that goes into photography, as in, I didn’t know that to get that wonderful blurred out background, you needed a lens with an f-stop of 1.4 or 1.8 and such. Nor did I “get” the millimeter numbers, but plenty of YouTubers were raging about this particular lens. And OK, now I get it. I can film myself with the lens about a foot in front of me, and it picks up practically the whole room. So great for talking-head videos! And the color and bokeh are amazing! It’s perfect for this use and I’m so glad I got it! The price was pretty reasonable too!
I've used these lenses for a video shoot with my Panasonic GH5 and my results were gorgeous, if not stunning. I know these praises are normally used for lenses costing $4,000.00 each but, believe me, these Sigma lenses really deliver. I used them in an available light situation indoors, with only faded, yellowish, recessed, ceiling fluorescent lighting and was very concerned about my resultant image quality. When I arrived home, I reviewed my footage on a 4K monitor and my videos were sharp, clear and realistic with fantastic color rendition. I didn't even have to set up one supplemental light source. This three kens kit is a must for videographers. True, these lenses focus by wire but with constant practice or non moving shots you will not be disappointed. No ... This turned out to be a terrific lens and a steal at the price. It's very sharp, especially for a wide angle, and the weight is manageable for m43. But...it's still a Sigma lens, and as anyone who has been involved with photography for more than 5 years will tell you, consistency has not been Sigma's strong suite (and that's why reviews, both good and bad, can be accurate.)The first lens I got did not come anywhere close to focusing accurately. Manual focusing showed the lens to be very good. I figured, that's normal Sigma Q.C., and hoped lens #2 would be better. The second lens focused perfectly, even at f/1.4. It's almost as sharp as my macros and the Panasonic 15mm, so we're talking seriously sharp. An added bonus for m43 users is that these lenses are designed ... Out of focus areas look pretty good too, for a wide angle, but I don't know anything about video so I can't comment on whether this lens is a good choice for that.
