I purchased this lens in 2013 and my daughter is still using it on her Pentax. It exhibits the typical flaws of a 12X zoom such as fisheye distortion at extreme wide angles, a bit of vignetting wide open, and some softness at the long telephoto end of the zoom range. I really wanted to enjoy this lens! Sincerely! I started using it on my DX-format brand new Nikon D5600 and experienced vignetting in all four corners of any photo I took. No lens hood. No filter. Occurred at all focal lengths from 18 to 250, the worse vignetting being at 90mm. I had a Nikon rep in a brick n mortar store place this Sigma lens onto his personal D5500 and he experienced the same vignetting as I was seeing. He then placed his Nikon 35mm lens on my D5600 body and had no issues. We were able to eliminate variables and identify the Sigma lens as the culprit of the vignetting and my camera was fine. After using such lens with my Sony A37 I wanted the same for my DX Nikons. Of course it's not one of "Sigma Art" series it would cost 1000 EUR more, wouldn't it? but it gives very good picture, especially considering its affordable price. Anyone still using attached "kit lens" can be surprised, how really capable his/her camera is simply by such "lens upgrade". Despite offering long range zoom its distortion is negligible images are sharp, vivid and not deformed. Also very useful for macro shots. Nice, handy and affordable allrounder IMHO (mainly for use in daylight conditions! See its aperture values...) worthy of recommendation.

As a general all-purpose lens, the quality of build, the quality of images, and the great price far exceeds my expectations. One can buy a Canon lens for 3x the cost and get the same quality build and quality images, but the price is difference in savingsfrom the Sigma as compared to the Canon lenses. Btw, this Sigma lens and other standard Sigma lenses are off exposure by 1 and 1/3 stops when installed on the new released Canon cameras, such as the 90D. I tested this lens and other Sigma lenses on the Canon 90D, compared to the 7D Mark II and the Gossen Luna Pro light meter. I have to set C1 (programmable) with an exposure compensation of +1 and 1/3 stops. I informed Canon Tech Support and Sigma Tech Support about this issue. I also read an article that the Canon ... You really can't beat this lens for the money. I saw this lens offered on Amazon for $500 and found it on eBay for about $200. I mean, what kind of new lens do you get for that price? So, I was not expecting much, particularly since I read some mixed reviews. I have not had this lens for long and I have not had the chance to really put it through its paces, but I am very happy with it so far. It's not perfect, but what lens ever is? Naturally, it's made out of plastic and it operates that way. You can feel the parts rubbing together when you are zooming with it, so it's not exactly smooth. Still, it works well. However, if you are going to just be shooting inside, then I would suggest using a different lens or a flash. My camera came with a great 18-135 zoom lens that works super well indoors, so I use that lens for inside work. However, this is the lens that I keep on the camera most of the time. While I can't quite give it five stars, it's still a solid four-star lens and I would definitely recommend it to anyone on a budget.

One review I read said the manual focus override was 'stiff' - it's because you shouldn't try and manually focus while in AF.2 - If you photograph things with lots of parallel lines (a building for example) at mid focal lengths, you will notice some pin-cushion distortion. This does not bother me in the least because it can all be corrected in Photoshop or GIMP or whatever. This is normal for superzooms.3 - I tend to keep the lens locked in in between shots. It can extend under its own weight and if you swing around with the camera around your neck, you could bang the lens against something.

High quality sigma craftsmanship. Cons= -When at 250 there is a noticeable amount of vignetting , (Lightroom profile fixes this fairly well but not in ultra low light situations IE-stars) -Some distortion in wide angle shots, (Lightroom profile fixes theses perfectly) -at 250 there IS minor chromatic aberration, enough for a trained eye to catch but not noticeable to most. I find it most when shooting hard edges at the end of the focal range most often aircraft wing tips and such (Lightroom profile can eliminate most of the aberration no problem) Overall, this is a great lens for the price. If you are a student or new to photography BUY THIS LENS and use it to teach yourself the basics of manual mode and shot composition. It will allow you to learn what kind of pictures you like to shoot so that when you decide to buy a very pricy lens you know what kind you want. Like i said before, this is the lens I take on vacations and outdoor trips, allows me to get the shots i want without holding up the group to swap lenses. Would buy again.

So this is not a true 250mm lens, you are buying more like 18-180mm.- The quality at 250mm (Nikon 180mm equivalent) is extremely poor. Took several pics under same ISO and Nikon 55-200mm beats this hands down. Very blurry pics and poor, unnatural colors.- The whole point of getting a 18-250mm is convenience. But this lens is more like 18-180mm where the usable range is no more than 18-130mm Nikon lens equivalent. This lens works absolutely perfectly on the Nikon Z50 with the FTZ adapter. Face and eye detection along with auto-focus works flawlessly.It is super lightweight and compact, the optical stabilization works very well, and the clarity of the images is spot on. The macro capabilities are amazing, making this a very versatile lens. I was lucky enough to get it clearance price @ $329 which was nearly 50% off! This lens blows the Nikon 18-200 away, and ended up costing me about half as much.Sorry, but the overpriced Nikon is getting returned. This lens is a keeper for sure.
