I purchased this lens for a Canon Rebel t7i hoping for a closer view into a great horned owl's nest with chicks and also to get a closer view of a roosting screech owl. This lens did not meet my expectations. The pictures and videos taken did not even provide the view that my EOB Ranger binoculars do. It is also a very heavy lens. I really could not imagine enjoying a hike in Yellowstone or Grand Tetons with such a heavy lens--and my tiny Sony RX 100 seems to do a better job. I am returning the lens. Adorama provides terrific customer service and information, so I would definitely shop here again for my next purchase!

Sigma lens rental price was competitive, shipping container was impressive and arrived a day early, and lens performance was what I expected. Overall a great experience. I'd use Lensrentals again.

Previously on a Canon crop sensor DSLR I have used a Tamron 16-300 which I loved. This time round based on score in the Photo Plus Canon magazine went for the Sigma 18-300. Ok you loose a little by not going to 16mm, however I believe the optics are better, pin shel and the build quality and feel are better and yet at better price. Auto focu is much much quicker and quieter and whereas I had issues with the Tamron not working well in live view this works really quickly. Its quite a lump of kit but for travel and general work means I can take only this lens or combine it with a nifty fifty. Prime.

I don't like the exterior movement of auto focus feature- although it is a fine reminder that the constant focusing is burning your battery . I either turn it to manuel or shut down the camera- neither one are good options especially if you're after wildlife.The lens is solid well built and on the heavy side. Camera, lens and speed lite total 3.5lbs. I've been using a monopod for normal shots and a tripod for the long. Some report that the manuel adjustment ring is small and has a short movement. That's probably me not the lense. Close ups are good -especially in manuel mode. This lens is an excellent addition when you need just one lens or leave your bag at home. Yes, it isn't as fast as the fast zooms or primes, but it covers a huge range can perform extreme close ups and is reasonably sharp at all focal lengths. AF is reasonably fast. Construction is excellent as all of the new lenses from Sigma. Firmware and custom adjustments can be made with the Sigma Dock. I have found this lens excellent just walking around when the light is good, and it excels when used with a tripod. It's opitical stabilization is excellent and is as good as anything from Nikon or Canon. And excellent lens for an excellent price.

I was experimenting with settings and taking pictures of the back pasture and the yard and my wife and flowers and insects and pets and coins and knick-knacks and pretty much anything I happened to walk past... just to see what the lens can do. Only recently purchased this lenses. So far so good. Have used it on a wildlife day trip to Skomer Island and the results are very good. Sharpness of the lenses seems excellent and enabled me to take just the one lens for the day due to the range available. Plan to use this as an all round travel lens for the future as well.

Also wanted more "zoom" than the kit telephoto lens had. The Sigma images are a little sharper than the kit lenses are but was not a critical issue for the upgrade from the Canon lens to the Sigma 18 to 300 mm lens. The zoom action is smooth, no rough/tight spots when zooming out or in. This lens is sharp enough so that I can photograph birds at 300mm, then crop the image and have a "closeup" of the bird that's equal in size to a 50X image from the old camera but has sharper details. That is the capability I expected from this camera/lens combination and am extremely pleased. For months I checked every online review that I could find for this type of lens, chose Sigma, am very pleased with all aspects of itsperformance. Very happy with the lens, have NO cons to report!
Recently purchased this lens second hand. I used it for photographing a wedding a few days later. It worked very well with my Nikon D7500...for daylight and flash photography. I haven't used the macro facility yet but look forward to this. I would highly recommend this versatile lens.
