Rose Da Silva and her husband Christopher are deeply disturbed by their adopted daughter Sharon's constant sleepwalking and nightmares about Silent Hill, a town that was abandoned 30 years ago due to a massive coal seam fire. Against Christopher's wishes, Rose takes Sharon on a trip to Silent Hill to find answers. Her erratic behaviour concerns police officer Cybil Bennett. Rose flees from Cybil, but when a girl steps out into the road, Rose crashes and blacks out. Waking up some time later, Rose finds herself in the foggy dimension of Silent Hill and realizes that Sharon is missing. Searching the town for Sharon, Rose pursues the same girl she encountered prior to the crash, who turns out to resemble Sharon in appearance. At various points, the town transitions into a nightmarish dimension inhabited by inhuman monsters, including the fearsome Pyramid Head. Rose survives the transitions and consequently learns of the existence of Alessa Gillespie, a young girl burnt by the Brethren, the town's fanatical cult. Her mother Dahlia wanders the streets as an outcast, guilty for her negligence that led to Alessa's doom. Rose is later joined by Cybil, also trapped in the foggy dimension of the town due to a giant fracture isolating Silent Hill. Meanwhile, in the real world, Christopher searches the abandoned town with policeman Thomas Gucci, but their search is in vain. Upon finding a photo of Alessa, Christopher goes to the orphanage where Sharon was adopted. Gucci appears, revealing he lived in Silent Hill and saved Alessa from the fire. He encourages Christopher to end his futile search and go home.

I thought this movie was going to be silly with all the computer animated monsters but this movie turned out so great. It is based a video game which I have not played. I do recommend seeing this movie if you like horrors.

You will also read how "confusing" it is; if you honestly can't think and watch a movie at the same time, you shouldn't be allowed to review anything. The casting was great, even though Radha Mitchell's character was a brunette in the game. I would have liked it more had there been more clues to figure out as the movie progressed, instead of the plot bombardment you experience towards the end. Silent Hill is the best game-to-movie adaptation there is. If you're looking for a movie based on a game that stays true to it in every aspect, look no further. As a regular horror movie, it is still pretty good, but it somehow lacks dramatic flair in the spoken dialogue. It consistently retains a bone-chilling atmosphere, especially at night. I would still suggest you buy it despite its few flaws, unless you enjoy mindlessly staring at your television.

This movie kept you on the edge of your seat. Even though some of the "demons" in the movie were kind of funny instead of scary, you just had to keep watching. You needed to know what was happening and how it was going to end. Speaking of the ending, I didn't like it. I wish they would have returned normally and I'm still a little confused as to what really happened in Silent Hill to the mom and daughter but as I said before it kept me on the edge of my seat.
This was a movie adapted from a videogame. That alone may scare some people. I however had never played the game. I must say this was a very good movie. By videogame movie standards this was one of the greates movies ever made. I was scared at points and could not figure out what was coming next. It kept me engaged the entire time and I enjoyed the plot twists. Final Opinion...Good Buy.

I watched this with a friend of mine who HAS played all of the games, and he agreed that while the movie lacked the action-packed, shoot-em-up gunplay of the game, it did capture the depressing, claustrophobic atmosphere of the game. I decided to purchase this after seeing it (some of it) on Starz last new years eve. I liked the concept, but seeing as I was busy, didn't get a chance to see the whole thing. Well, I watched it again, and I liked it alot! It's got great SFX, cool settings and a good story adapted from the game. The dialog is a little cheezy at times, but all together, a win! 4/5- Good -Steve from Cleveland, Ohio

This movie was such a relief for a horror flick fan like myself. I was so tired of the "genetic freaks in the forrest" and "the house with a terrible history" movies I could have screamed. All I could think was "there is so much more to be affraid of, right?"But, it was the same story base rearranged for what seemed like a decade.Silent hill is scarey! It goes up there with your freakiest scarey dream. The imposssible has been neglected for so long as aspect of what creates fear within our being.But, really, isn't the unknown terrifying?This movie ties adventure into fantasy with hard creepy coating.This movie was refreshing.
This was a great movie, my wife and I loved it! I was a fan of the video game when I was younger, and this was a great adaptation. The movie has a great plot, excellent special effects, and is very intense and intriguing. If you're a fan of horror movies, you've got it all right here. A definite must own. I highly recommend it! Also, some other great video games turned into movies are Doom, The Resident Evil series, and Max Payne.
