I bought this for from Dick’s Sporting Goods and and never had a problem with anything I’ve ever purchased there before for any sport for my kids. This Device I thought would be great for my Kids to improve their Basketball skills.I’m an Engineer by Profession. The set-up Directions were basic and not great. Once I tried to insert this bottom pole into the base it would not fit. I re-read the directions to make sure it wasn’t me, It was the System. After installing it , the system leaned to one side, after one day outside the pole bent to a “Right Angle”.At first I thought it was vandalized? Then I watched our RING SYSTEM VIDEO AND OVER TIME the very cheap/very flimsy poles just bent in the sun on a normal day (no heat wave). I can’t imagine this product ... I love the concept of D-Man and he has helped me with my practices. The part where D-Man goes wrong is in the construction of the materials. The netting of the D-man itself is pretty good, but the 3 plastic poles that you hang D-Man on are VERY cheap. One good hit and those posts will get bent or cracked. The push in clips that hold the posts together do not line up very well with the holes and I had one push in clip that wanted to stay pushed in therefore leaving the post unsecured. This could be a great product with some better post engineering. It is really a shame to have such a good idea muffed by the need to be cheap with the most important part of the structure. So far my base has held up, but I worry about that cracking and letting water seep out everywhere. ... MoreI love the concept of D-Man and he has helped me with my practices. Sand would probably be a better idea to put in the base over water, but I used water because it was the easiest thing to do. Come on SKLZ don't run for the profits so much that you take away quality. If you get one it is very fun to use in practices, but do not let your kid's run into it, bounce balls off of it, or your D-man will be a Dead Man.

I purchased two of these thinking they would be a great training tool, I was wrong. The first issue I had is that they constantly fall over even with the weighted base(check other reviews). Our only solution was to use heavy weights on top of the filled base and that did help but was still a hassle so we didn't use them as often as planned. The very first time we tried using these outdoors, the poles warped from being in 85-90 degree heat for 6-8 hours. You can see in the picture they are no longer useable. We are going to buy durable PVC pipe and fix it as someone else has mentioned in the reviews. Save yourself the frustration and $60 dollars and make a homemade one or use cones/chairs instead!

This product is a good visualization tool for many drills we use in basketball practice. We ordered 5 of these to help visualize a defense as we do not have enough players to do a 5 on 5 scrimmage. Once we received the items it said you could fill the base with water or sand to stabilize the mannequins. Warning - We tried water at first and after the first day we noticed 2 of the bases were leaking which caused a dangerous surface for our players. Upon farther inspection the we noticed that the seams in the middle of the base were not very solid and split open in a couple areas which caused them to leak out. We have since taken the water out and filled them instead with cat litter and have had no issues since. So after final analysis, I would still recommend this ... I bought 3 D-Men straight from SKLZ because it is cheaper than buying 2. 109.99 for 3 men or D-Team. So far I have mostly used them to mimic different defenses. I have my team pass, cut and post up on the d-men. So far I think that they have helped with my offense only because they can see the d-men. For years I have coached plays and the kids do them in practice but when they get in the game they look lost. I also have the kids do different dribbling drills where they drive the ball up to the D-Man and then cross it and go to the basket. I also have them catch the ball in front of the dman and pump fake and drive. I am actually thinking about buying more. Great item but they could have made the pvc one longer pole that extends out as far as you want. I thought ... I bought this as a birthday present for my daughter. She plays competitive basketball and like to practice in our driveway. The "D-man" is placed near the goal so she can dribble drive and pull up for short jumpers. It helps her to focus on the rim and getting the shot off and not the potential defender in front of her. Product is well made, but is priced high for what it is.
This is a great concept, if it was made with quality materials. The D-Man is an indoor product for sure. The plastic tubes are 99% always gonna bend in heat or wind.Had a lot of trouble getting the base pole into the actual base and ended up breaking the base, but nothing a trip to home depot couldn't fix, now a couple of brackets and pvc pipes later, she's ready for outdoor use. DO NOT USE THIS OUTDOORS BTW, shouldn't cost more than $40 to be super honest.I hope the company fixes these issues because an $80 price point for this flimsy piece of crap is not worth it.
Like many others I have read, the product looks great and for a day or two works perfectly. And then with a little wind or just use, it's begins to bend and does not hold up. I spent a bunch of time trying to get it upright. The company that makes it should be emabarrassed by the design. Went from very happy to very disappointed. It's in the trash now.
I bought the SKLZ D Man as a gift for my 13year old son for AFL and Basketball training. It is strong and sturdy. Easy to assemble and pack sway. Comes with base plate for hard courts and spikes for turf which is very handy. Adjustable height means he can practice over mixed sizes. We would recommend this product to anyone who loves sports.
I purchased 2 of the SKILZ D-MAN and at $70.00 each, I would expect the quality to be much better. Both poles have warped and cracked to the point where they are pretty much unusable.I have tried to “fix” them as best as I can by using Gorilla tape and Splints to give them better structure, but the poles have warped now to the point where they no longer position vertically. When place in an upright position, they bend to the point where they no longer serve their purpose. I coach 4 basketball teams, as well as give private lessons, and these training items are very useful when they work. As of now, they don't. Won't look to purchase any more... EVER.
