Review of Sky Watcher 70/500 SolarQuest Solar Scope

originally posted on jacobsdigital.co.nz

Purchased as a special order. Arrived in the time frame given by Jacobs. Easy to build up. Had to wait a week for fine weather but it was worth it. The system found the Sun and needed no correction. So easy no need to have a Sun filter on a telescope and then try to line up the Sun. Great to see a large number of Sunspots.Took the first photos, needed an adjustment to place the image in the center, probably due to the extra weight of the Camera, but still tracked fine with the addition. Work in progress for better pictures.Certainty recommend it as an addition to any Astronomers equipment list.

Pointing directly at the sun can be challenging, and searching for it using a traditional scope view is like finding a needle in a haystack. Simplify the process by letting the SolarQuest on Heliofind Mount do the work for you. SolarQuest provides a user-friendly and safe solution for sun observation, thanks to Sky-Watcher's innovative technology. The Heliofind mount is easily operated by anyone in the family. With a simple push of a button, the mount and SolarQuest will smoothly slew clockwise in the azimuth direction, locating the sun effortlessly. Even if the tripod is accidentally moved, restarting is easy, and the SolarQuest quickly reorients to find the sun. This setup is ideal for beginners keen on observing sunspots, eclipses, and the transit of inner planets. WARNING:The SolarQuest mount is designed to work with the attached solar telescopes ONLY. Do not point other types of optical devices at the sun; looking directly at the sun without a certified filter will cause immediate and irreversible damage to the eyes or instrument. Sky-Watcher Telescopes In late 1999 the Sky-Watcher brand was born in Canada. Today Sky-Watcher is recognised as being one of the world's largest telescope suppliers. With a mission statement like the following, it is no wonder they are one of the world's biggest brands for night gazing.
