The only one that irritates (so far, I've only had the mount a couple of weeks) is the polar scope cover. Seems like most screw on. The one on the GTI snaps on and has already fallen off three times. In the big scheme it is a small gripe offset by this being a modern mount, and with the ASIAIR Plus I can control the mount directly and not have to go through the hand controller and have those extra cables around like on the AVX mount.Fully recommended. Just remember that in astro kit weight adds up quickly. Also, the GTI's machining allowed excellent tracking.

A bit disapointing.

This is not a case for the SA GTI, it's just a case. The inside is not shaped to match the GTI, there is only a bit of padding on one end to hold the counterweights in place. The only thing that holds the mount in place is a strap. The cover does not close all around, there is just a zipper across which leave both ends opened and the outside cover only covers the top and closes with a few weak magnets. There is nothing that will prevent water and dirt to get inside.I bought it on sale at 86$ and it's not even worth that much in my opinion. I purchased Amazon Basics camera bags for 20$ that are better than this. I was looking forward to receiving it based on the four good reviews it has.......what a disapointment.

Astrophotography must have

I recently purchased the SA GTI to use for astrophotography. It easily handles my Canon 400mm f/4 DO II lens with or without the telextenders. This is an equatorial tracking mount that is small enough to carry on trips. I bought Pelican V525 Vault case and everything fits easily in that for checking on a plane. The polar scope is hard for my use with glasses and being slightly red/green color blind but I also got an ASIair Plus to run the mount and that should solve my problem with polar alignment. If you want to get into long exposure astro photography this is a must have piece of gear.

Excellent for visual, reasonable for AP
20 September 2022

My copy of this mount seems pretty good. It's very smooth and handles up to my ED80 & 127 Mak pretty well for visual use - though they're the most you'd want to put on it. Drives well from either the Asi Air Plus or via the iPad using either the Synscan pro app or Sky Safari plus. Super light weight and easy to carry around. My main photography setup for this is the WO Z61 and Asi 294mc guided with FMA180 and 120mm via the AA+ which is probably getting towards the mount's limits for weight. Guiding so far has been averaging around 1" though there does seem to be times where the mount stops responding to Dec pulses and wanders out to 3" away then comes good - not sure what's happening there but 70% or thereabouts of my 5 minute subs seem to work out nicely. The dragons of Ara was 10 x 5 minute shots. I think Skywatcher have missed an opportunity by not quite allowing it to be used as an Alt Az mount as well - it gets pretty close - see pic, but not quite! Some aspects of the fit and finish like the polar scope cover and battery compartment fitting is very ordinary - if Skywatcher could address these and allow the scope to be used in Alt Az mode as well, they'd have a real winner. The dual attachment points for the counter weight shaft was a good idea to prevent the counterweights from hitting the tripod. At this point, I've probably used mine half a dozen times and so far, I think it's been good value for the money. Looking forward to getting it to some real dark sky sights over summer and will hopefully add a few more pics/info here.

Fantastic Tracker Goto Function is Amazing
16 September 2023

Recently I upgrade my Star Adventurer from a 2i to a GTi and the difference is amazing. The goto functionality alone works really well and saves so much time. The unit its self is well built (apart from the battery compartment which can be a pain at times) and the addition of a fairly flexible intervalometer is a nice touch too. I unpacked the unit set it up and mounted my camera on it, after polar alignment (which is simple especially as this unit has the illuminating led is now inside the polar scope) and then performed and alignment, this is both very easy and pretty accurate (even a 1 star alignment works pretty well) I am generally very happy with this product, I would recommend running it from a power supply rather than batteries though. Light and portable, great little grab and go mount
1 December 2023

I bought this to pair with my RedCat51 which always looked a bit puny on my EQ6R-Pro and so was never getting used. So this is perfect in that I can lift it out onto the drive, be polar aligned in 10 minutes or so and be imaging pretty quickly before bringing it all back in because of the inevitable clouds! Tracking is a bit above 1 arc-sec, but that is OK with my pixel scale at more than 2 arc-sec/pixel so stars look absolutely fine. Backlash in DEC is higher than on my other mounts, but that doesn't seem to be causing any problems so I haven't seen the need to try to start fiddling with the mechanics to improve things like I have with my other mounts. I haven't done this yet, but the intention is to be able to take this away from the local houses to get a better ... MoreI bought this to pair with my RedCat51 which always looked a bit puny on my EQ6R-Pro and so was never getting used. More than happy, but...
20 May 2023

The polar tracker came with everything as described, and included another weight that wasn't described in the details, the weight was as handy as many reviews claim, it is needed in some cases, I agree. The instructions have a sticker with the correction. It just works and for me, without a clear view of Polaris, the 3 star alignment works just perfect. It would be nice if B&H include the V-style dovetail for DSLR/Mirrorless users, the Shutter Release Cable, and the 12V 2A (2.1mm plug) Power Supply in the Accessories area for this item and a link to the Sky-Watcher walkthrough of the SynScan app which make it work just perfectly. 5 stars, great polar tracker.

I ordered the full package which includes the tripod and extension pillar. FLO provided their usual rapid delivery service. My first impressions on unpacking was that the build quality was generally good but the fit of the polar scope covers was very poor, the lower one repeatedly falls off. Due to bad weather I have not been able to fully test this mounts capabilities. The goto function using the Synscan app installed on my mobile phone was tested and worked ok as did the Synscan hand controller I already owned for my EQ6-R mount. A break in the weather permitted a brief unguided imaging run using my Canon EOS600D and 50mm f1.8 lens to take 80 x 20" exposures of Cassiopeia. which turned out ok. A break in the weather permitted a brief unguided imaging run using my Canon EOS600D and 50mm f1.8 lens to take 80 x 20" exposures of Cassiopeia. which turned out ok. I did have trouble getting this mount to work with the Ascom platform though. In the end I found that the only way I could get it to work was to connect the hand controller to the mount and the Laptop using Lynx cables and select PC Control after which it was possible to use a direct connection between the Laptop and the mount using a Lynx FTDI cable plugged into the hand controller port. For some reason I have not been able to get the USB2 port on the mount to work. A rare break in the clouds allowed me to test the Ascom set up by selecting a target (M33) with Stellarium. Pointing was reasonably accurate but the target was easily centred using plate solving software. Deteriorating weather conditions prevented further testing. I ordered this mount specifically for use with my CAT51 set up which includes an Altair AA 533C Pro Tec camera, filter draw, AA 32mm guide scope and GPCAM290M camera and ZWO EAF 5v. The mount seems to be perfectly capable of handling this arrangement. I have connected this mount to an external 12v supply and also powered it with 8xAA batteries that can be installed internally and both systems proved satisfactory. I just wish there would be a break in the weather so I could give this mount a thorough work out but my first impressions are that it is a very capable piece of kit for the money and I look forward to using it to its full potential.

almost perfect for my needs
16 July 2023

the Star Adventurer GTI is a great product. my first tracked Milky Way image (85mm centered on the Lagoon nebula) was perfect. 30 exposures at 1 minute shutter. no trailing, very sharp stars. i was impressed with the product, the GOTO function, and ease of use.i only have two minor complaints. first, the cover for the polar scope falls off, ALL THE TIME! secondly, the battery cover screw could sure use a retaining washer.however, my complaints are minor, in general the produce is very well made and very accurate. i am very pleased with the product.

fantastic little mount + surprised how good the tripod is
15 April 2023

This mount has been out of stock everywhere for a while now, but preordered with FLO and very happy at how quickly it was delivered after it came back in - thank you I am in the middle of setting this up for first light tonight and so far my impressions are very positive: - The mount itself is definitely small enough that you could put it in a backpack and travel with it (although you probably don't want to pack the counterweights) - I read a bit online about how the counterweight was too heavy to balance a very light setup, to my surprise rather than a single 5lb counterweight this came with 1.5lb and a 3.5lb counterweights. Sky-Watcher must have realised this was an issue and fixed it - I am unsure what it's called, but the mount came with a "printer" USB cable. Sky-Watcher must have realised this was an issue and fixed it - I am unsure what it's called, but the mount came with a "printer" USB cable. I have tested this out by plugging it into an ASIAIR (pick EQMOD mount) and it was detected/does it's magic immediately. Super happy about this - everything feels high quality and sturdy. The dials are all big and can see they would be easy to use even with gloves - I had very low expectations for the tripod, but I'm actually quite happy with it. For a less than £100 tripod it's very sturdy and definitely going to be good enough for any load going on here. a few "hmmm don't like that"'s: - there is a really rubbish cap that fits over the polar scope. it connects in to where the battery packs go and while I have batteries in the mount I can't even clip the cap in properly. I will bodge some fix to this, but it's such a strange thing to do - the tripod is sturdier than I expected, but the flip side is you're probably not going to be taking this tripod on a plane - there is no spirit level on the mount, but I guess that's a very minor grumble - I had a quick try to power the mount via an ASIAIR but couldn't get it to work. The manual says (a lot!!) that the preferred option is to use batteries, so I'm doing that for now and revisit this later. Overall, what a great little mount for £600!
