My son has an absolute blast playing Swap Force. I've got to admit that even I enjoy playing. I think they make it pretty easy so that kids and parents alike (who aren't hardcore gamers) don't get frustrated and give up. My 5 year old and I can play it side by side and be equal without one of us doing far better than the other. The ONLY downside to Skylanders in general is the additional cost which can add up quickly when your child wants to buy all the additional figures as some of the portals and other areas of the games can only be unlocked with certain characters. Regardless, it's cute, well animated, fun, family friendly and keeps him entertained. I definitely recommend it to anyone.

If you missed out the first time around, don't be afraid to jump in now!! Used figures are extremely cheap any more, and even if you want new ones, many of those can be found for about 60% or less of what they were going for originally. Just double check to ensure it's one of the 80 characters that works with this game if it's the only one you have. Any figure with a Blue, Orange, or Green bottom liner on the base with assuredly work with this game, assuming it isn't broken completely for whatever reason.Swap Force is easily considered the best "Playground" in the entire Skylanders series. What's not to love about this game? I am a 30 year old male and I bought this game for me and my wife to play together. Most people buy this for their kids, but it's a great game to play with your spouse, especially if he or she is not very good at video games. My wife gets frustrated with more complicated games, so this one is perfect.The controls are simple, so anyone can jump right in. It comes with 3 starter characters, the portal of power and the game. My two oldest children - ages 5 and 7 - are having an absolute blast with this game. While it can become expensive with all of the figures that you can buy, it is possible to get to the end of the game without purchasing any additional characters. The story itself plays out like a well written television cartoon, with humor that the kids love and that is watchable for myself. The puzzles are difficult enough for younger children that they may need occasional help, however not so much that they are constantly running to you to get them through a certain section.The reason I have given it 4 stars instead of 5 is still because there is a lot of content that is only unlocked through purchasing additional game pieces...which can become very expensive. For Christmas, we got him this and had friends/family who asked to get him more of the characters, so he has a nice collection.It works with the Spyro series well - he likes some of the non-SWAP Force characters. We haven't tried giants yet, but I think they'll work as well.It comes with 2 swappable characters and one non-swappable. And a poster that you can put stickers on to show which characters you already have and which ones you can ask Santa for next year. :)The portal glows which makes it a magnet for his sister, so we have to keep it out of her reach to keep from pausing his game when she puts too many characters on or steals the one he has playing.The graphics are ... The main characters voice is Puddy from Seinfeld, so that's entertaining. I do get tired of hearing the characters shout out their catch phrases, but that happens with all video games and moms I think.When it's no video game time, they play with the characters together as well, so it's a nice pause from "electronics" and still feel like they're playing the game.The best part, he forgets about begging to play Minecraft and since Skylanders has stopping points, it's easier to get him to stop when time's up without a big fight.

Don't buy if you don't have the portal! Waste of my time and money!!**Item description should be updated, the new portal is required for this game!!!**Bought game for my son for Christmas. He opened it and was in love! He really wanted this game and we bought extra figures. Too bad that it wasn't stated that you can't play this game without the new portal. The other Skylanders and swappable with the same portal. If I would've known that you had to have the starter pack, I wouldn't have wasted $50 on this game, especially when the starter pack is only $60! What a waste of my time and money!!One person found this helpful

I have two young kids, and this is a game that I can play with either of them. It's great, and builds on the original franchise well. The new ability to swap Skylander parts is pretty cool. I was particularly impressed that all my series 1 characters work just fine, and two people playing together can unlock the dual gates with the required elemental Skylanders. Very well done.On the other hand, I was more than disappointed to find that the portal is NOT wireless. I went back through the item and don't see anywhere that is mentioned. My Xbox One is in my entertainment shelves all the way across the room, making it inconvenient to swap skylanders.

I love this game! I am a 24 year old female and this is a perfect game for my skill level. It took me about 18 hours to beat the game on Easy and there is still plenty for me to go back and do. Tip: collect one Skylander of each element (there are 8) and one Giant, and you will be able to get in most of the zones. For the zones that require a "swap force" character (one that needs the legs of one element and top of another) - just turn on a second controller, put one Skylander of each element on the pad, enter the zone, and then turn off the second controller! No need to have a million swap characters. There are zones that only swap characters with certain skills can get in, but not many.
