Skywatcher 8 Dobsonian Telescope
A big aperture means better light gathering power and with this Sky-Watcher Telescope, you are able to see prominent deep-sky objects such as nebulae, star clusters and many more. To top it off, the Sky-Watcher Classic Dobsonians are equipped with a 2′′ Crayford focuser and focuser locking screw – to allow easy use of either eyepiece size. Features Tension Control SystemThe Tension Control System allows you to adjust the friction setting; to increase or reduce the amount of resistance when moving the tube on the wooden mount, so you always have the appropriate resistance. The secret of the design is to correctly balance the optical tube with the specially designed handles (found on the base) and this adds enough friction and tension to allow the tube to move easily when nudged or to stay solidly in position. Sky-Watcher Telescopes In late 1999 the Sky-Watcher brand was born in Canada. Today Sky-Watcher is recognised as being one of the world's largest telescope suppliers. With a mission statement like the following, it is no wonder they are one of the world's biggest brands for night gazing.

As a beginner I chose this product for a number of reasons. On delivery the box carrying the optical tube was quite damaged and torn on one corner. On carful removal I could see that the tube appeared to be undamaged. At this point I was rather alarmed at the size as I hadn't realised just how big this telescope was. The only problem I found in setting up was that the primary mirror locking screws at the base of the optical tube were loose and just hanging in there. Upon completion of setting up this telescope, it stood tall and very impressive. Having now watched many videos on this particular telescope I started to put into practice what I had read and watched. Unfortunately, what I see in the finder scope is totally different to what if anything I see in focusing ... MoreAs a beginner I chose this product for a number of reasons. Having now watched many videos on this particular telescope I started to put into practice what I had read and watched. Unfortunately, what I see in the finder scope is totally different to what if anything I see in focusing tube. When I measure the distance between the two it's some 5 inches out. So I reached out to Ryda from where it had been sent ...twice and I'm still waiting for some reply on what to do next as I am unable to use the telescope. My gut feeling tells me that Collimation is require provided it's not damaged inside. At the moment for a brand new item I feel somewhat disenchanted and let down, however I'm sure that will change once the telescope is up and running. As to what to do next I will wait another couple of days for a reply then engage the professional services here in WA to solve my problems.

Just received this scope last week. It's great. Really easy to assemble and easy to use. Powerful magnification too.It comes with two eyepieces (25mm and 10mm) as standard giving 48x and 120x magnification respectively. That gives some amazing views of the moon, but you'll need to purchase additional eyepieces and a Barlow Lens to get up to higher magnifications (maximum capability for this scope is 400x), so do budget a minimum of another $100 for eyepiece accessories from 3rd party suppliers. There are some great youtube videos that are really helpful on how to use this model of scope for Astro-photography, when fitted with a T ring. All in all, very happy with the purchase so far and looking forward to seeing what it can do with some additional eyepieces.
