I resisted getting an 18" Slow 'N Sear Charcoal Basket for my Jumbo Joe for as long as I could hold out. Problem was whether it was somebody posting on FB about using one or one of the pit masters who regularly post on YouTube the basket seemed to never get less than glowing reviews, no pun intended. I used it on a few cooks in the Jumbo Joe before unexpectedly buying a barely used Jumbo Joe Premium which are 22" in diameter like an original kettle. I remember reading the 18" basket is perfectly fine to use in a 22. I've only done wings with it in the JJ Premium so far. It seemed easier to control and maintain temp by adjusting the vents and reading the temp gauge I mounted to the dome lid just below the vent than on the 18". Add me to the list, I'm sold on Slow 'N ... MoreI resisted getting an 18" Slow 'N Sear Charcoal Basket for my Jumbo Joe for as long as I could hold out. I've had the original SNS for over a year and I love it. However, now that I've been bit by the grilling/smoking bug, I've found my trips out of town are a bit lacking without some grill time. (Yeah, it's bad, lol.) I picked up a Jumbo Joe to cook when camping and out of town.I've done a few test cooks thus far and holding temperature is easier than my 22" kettle! This really makes an already excellent little cooker into something even better. The lack of a water pan isn't even a big deal since you can just toss one over the coals.I've smoked some pork belly and even did the "Baltimore Pit Beef" recipe with excellent results. The only caveat that I think someone should consider before buying this basket is this: unlike the SNS for bigger grills, this guy takes up ... This is a necessary compromise to give the little grill adequate searing space but, for someone like me who tends to do a lot more smoking and "hot and fast cooks", the space is really at a premium, even for something like a whole chicken. You might have to get creative. (This is no knock on the product either, it's the reality of an 18" kettle.)With all of that said, the Jumbo Joe SNS is becoming my go-to cooker even at home when preparing smaller meal due to the ease of use and fuel efficiency. The size is also perfect for things like roasts.(It'd be nice if there was some kind of temporary insert wall that could be added for smoking to isolate the coals to like a 1/4 or 1/3 of the total grill. It's so small that a little fuel goes a long way!)

Honestly I didn't know what to expect. I was disappointed the regular Slow ??N Sear wasn't available for my 18" weber so I ordered the charcoal basket. This thing is simply awesome! The flexibility is allows me is something I didn't count on. It's kind of like one of those things you don't think about until you experience it. I know I will never be without it. I will also be purchasing the regular Slow ??N Sear when I purchase my 22" weber. I'll tell you something else......I didn't think it would make that big a difference. Boy was I wrong!

Love this basket as a replacement for a traditional charcoal basket. The design allows for better flexibility in temperature regulation/cook time VS the traditional basket. Also, because of the footprint VS the traditional basket, allows for more surface area when it comes to reverse searing. Still learning how best to use this, but am very happy with the product so far.
I have previously purchased the SnS Deluxe for my Weber 22” grill and have loved the results. Adding the Charcoal Basket to my Jumbo Joe was basically a no-brainer. I use the Joe more often for weekday grilling and this new ‘toy’ makes indirect cooking a big success every time. I also have the mini Drip pan and I just received my 18” EasySpin grate as well. Now, my Jumbo Joe possesses all of the capabilities of the larger grill. Looking forward to many grilling experiences as the weather warms.
I bought the SS basket and it is the best way to open the door to a new world of Jumbo Joe cooking! Just like my S??nS in my 22? Kettle, I can do higher temps for longer times using less coals than without the basket. Searing steaks.. no problem! Low & Slow in the Jumbo Joe is just as easy as with my larger grills. Set it and forget it! It will hold a rock solid smoking temp for 5-6 hours and just keeps going! The most important benefit to me is the ability to cook indirect Without having to pile the coals on the kettle wall and saving my JJ from damage caused by high heat cooks. The air gap around the back protects the enamel from popping and crazing! In the photo you can see how much charcoal is left over AFTER 6hrs smoking using Weber charcoal. All I did was ... All I did was shake out the ash and move the coals to the side. If that??s not a money saver I don??t know what is! If you own a Jumbo Joe you need to have this product !!
Grabbed one of these shortly after the release. It arrived much faster than promised. First cook was a nice rack of **** Backs on a Jumbo Joe. I did the test on the worst day I could. Rain, wind, cold. 45ish. I did not use a mav but instead stuck a thermapen in the top vent from time to time to monitor temp. Followed your directions exact. It ran a good 6 hrs. The Ribs were GREAT!The basket, like the SnS is a winner. Thanks for yet another fantastic product.
Like the Slow 'N Sear for the 22" this basket for the Jumbo Joe is a winner! This is very well thought out, being a portable grill this basket is made a little lighter and without the water reservoir so it transports easy. Still it is 10 times better than the weber charcoal baskets which I tried to use for a couple years but ditched since they really didn't do anything. I haven't taken the S'NS Charcoal basket out in the 3 months I've had it. It gives you a nice sear zone large enough for a couple chops or steaks and enough space on the indirect side to do a large spatchcock chicken. Thanks for another winner Dave!
When Dave announced that he was releasing a SNS for the Jumbo Joe, I was was excited. When I found out that there was no water reservoir, I was bummed. Dave re-assured me that that I would be pleased with the unit, so I ordered one. I received it today and immediately threw a slab of baby backs on. I've got to say that these were some of the best babies I've ever eaten, tender, moist and delicious. The basket held more charcoal than I needed, and the barrier between the coals and the food provided the optimal 2 zone cooking area you would want. This is my second SNS and will soon be purchasing a Weber 26" as well as a SNS to go with it.In my humble opinion, if you are purchasing the charcoal basket, spend the extra and get the stainless model, you will be pleased ... this product fit inside my weber kettle grill. i assumed it had a water trough it does not. the product is made of pieces of very thin stainless material held together by tabs. to be fair this product was compared to a different brand for a larger weber kettle grill, and i merely assumed this was but a smaller rendition of the larger unit. it is not. i did use this once i found it is best to fill it to find the capacity of charcoal first. then only light no more than half of it in a chimney putting lit coals on one side and unlit coals on the other side. otherwise you will have one seriously hot cooking experience.
