SLR Magic APO Micro Prime Cinema Lens 18mm T2.8 (FF) E Mount
Choosing a smaller size over bulk and weight, the SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 18mm Lens covers full-frame sensors and features a Sony E-mount. Suitable for 4K origination, each lens in the MicroPrime Cine series features similar size and weight with consistent lens gear positions for rapid lens changes and easier rebalancing when changing lenses on a gimbal. The lens incorporates a 7-blade iris that provides a pleasing bokeh with natural-looking out-of-focus highlights. The odd number of iris blades also reduces the appearance of flare off the blades. The lens has an internal focus design so the front of the lens doesn't rotate when focusing, and it has an 85mm outer diameter for compatibility with a wide number of clip-on matte boxes. Each lens in the MicroPrime Cine series features similar balance characteristics, minimizing recalibration when switching lenses while your camera is on a gimbal. Internal focus mechanism minimizes breathing and prevents the front of the lens from rotating while pulling focus. An 82mm front filter thread enables mounting filters directly to the lens without using a matte box.

Truly amazed how close these are to Cooke Panchro Series III. The edges are a bit soft, they're also relatively hard to get solid focus on the edges. My use shows around T11 where you actually can get solid focus on the edge. It's actually far stronger wide open than I've seen others mention, a wonderful lens.

I bought this lens as an entry point into a full prime suite for use on S35 and FF bodies. Immediately I liked the build quality and the just right amount of focus rotation on the barrel, ideal for single operators or for using a focus motor. My only issue was pairing this lens with the Viltrox Zcam E2 E-mount adapter. The fit is very stiff but if you read my review over there you'll find out how I got it to work. TL:DR though. All in all I'm very pleased with the character of the lens, the slight vignetting in the corners is ok, as most of this is cropped out in 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 2.41:1 framing and consider windowed modes for high frame rate and I'm more than happy with the coverage. On Full frame, like a Sony A7 series, you might enjoy the rectilinear capture of ... MoreI bought this lens as an entry point into a full prime suite for use on S35 and FF bodies. The fit on an A7 body though - my absolute favorite of any lens, really feels at home on an A7rIII.Based on this test lens I'm going to order the rest of the set (15, 25, 35, 50 & 75)!

Haven't been very happy with this lens. For $300, what do you expect though. It doesn't fit properly in my BMPCC 4K, and has a small bit of shake at the mount. It moves up and down within the mount, so when I use the focus ring or adjust the aperture, the lens shakes within the mount. It just feels so cheaply made. Would not recommend buying this lens.

I was first impressed by the sturdy make of the lens and it didn't take long to fall in love with the picture that comes from it. I actually purchased the 35 first for my fuji X-T3 (crop sensor/1.8) and loved it so much that I immediately ordered this one. at 1.8 crop it is probably the equivalent of a 19 or 20mm but this is actually quite good because the unused portion of the image would probably be the distorted part. The focus is smooth yet must be moved with intention which is great. The small form factor of this series of lenses makes it great for moving fast and handheld so you can get a cinematic look without having to constantly be attached to rigging. As you'll read from the description, the focus and iris rings are in common places on all the lenses for ... MoreI was first impressed by the sturdy make of the lens and it didn't take long to fall in love with the picture that comes from it. I was a bit worried from reading other reviews about vignetting on a full frame e-mount. However I'm very impressed with the build quality of this lense. On my FX6 I'm not seeing any horrible vignetting wide open at 2.8. Sharp as well. And while I have not had much time to test it doesn't appear to exhibit too much Chromatic aberration. Especially when looking at YouTube reviews and comparing to the other larger focal lengths in this SLR Magic MicroPrime series which have pretty noticeable CA.Compared side by side with a 20mm Samyang Cine Prime. I'd prefer the quality and optics out of the SLR Magic. It's a winner.
This is an art lens 100%. Could shoot commercial with it if you want a nuanced feel. Some folks avoid shooting into light, others prefer it. This is more for those who enjoy the art thing and like seeing what kind of feel they can get when the sun is catching the frame etc. Super vibey.
I'd like to preface my review by saying I have no experience with very expensive cine lenses, obviously why I bought budget lenses. Review: Good solid build quality, very nice feel. The 50mm and 35 mm lenses are great on my Sony FX3. The 12mm and 13mm are okay. The 12mm is APS-C, so you'll need to change the setting on the FX3 for that lens. Personally love have a cine set instead of dealing with Photo lenses. I was afraid I'd have a problem with the manual focus because I have in the past relied on auto focus settings, but have no problems pulling good sharp focus.
Not bad. Im using this on my Sony FS5II and the A7riii in crop mode. Not a bad wide angle lens. I have the others in this set (25, 35, 50, 75) and I use a wireless FF and iris motor with the gears. This one is pretty sharp like the others. But it definitely has that wide angle distortion. Seems to have a lot of flare...so Im looking for a clamp-on hood or something. Ill keep it for those needed wide angle views (like on my Ronin-M gimbal shoots).
I made a purchase on 02-02-20202 of a Magic MicroPrime Cine 12mm T2.8 Lens (Micro Four Thirds Mount) SLR lens and the lens is in trouble. it is not focusing on infinity. focus at minimum distance, but 2 meters has no focus. what can I do to solve this?
So I bought 4 of these SLR magic microprime lenses and the 18mm got stuck on the mount. It doesn't even make 1/100 of the rotation turn to make the click sound when a lens is correctly mounted, it barely moves and makes this lens is unusable. The 50mm had problems too but at least completes the rotation to make the click sound, still makes me wonder the quality of these lenses.
