A Fantastic Phone, falls short on Camera Quality

The build quality of this phone surprised me and in many regards felt much more like a $2,000.00USD phone with the matierials, fit and finish, software, and sound quality, surpassing my expectations given its sub $1,000.00 price. Which if patient you can purchase this phone brand new for less than $400.00 with a 512GB storage capacity. Let that sink if for anyone reading this. By comparison I paid $1,799.00 USB for a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G with 128GB storage capacity which released within +/- a year from this device. And other than the Motorola’s difference in image capturing capabilities both phone feel and operate the same. I feel almost foolish for not going with the Motorola to begin with and saving myself $1400.00. And had I not gotten used to the Galaxy S20 Ultras 200Megapixel Cameras professional quality photos, I would say the Motorola is the Best Buy value of the year for 2023.

A great phone, maybe not the best value.

I bought this phone to replace my beloved Motorola Z2 force. I'm disappointed that Motorola no longer offers phones with a polycarbonate screen. ALL Gorilla Glass SCREENS CAN BREAK. Besides that, I do like the Edge+ 2022 very much. Camera is excellent, storage is much greater, screen picture is nicer and easier to see in daylight. With tv streaming 4k plus laptop connected to hotspot, Edge lasted over 8 hours. Battery WILL actually last all day with normal use. Phone is faster overall. Now have 5G. Do miss the Moto Mods. Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sounds great and is much louder than old phone.Did not want to replace the old Z2 Force as it worked just fine, didn't have a choice as Motorola no longer supports that phone. Apps seem to want version 10 or better now, was stuck with 9. Z2 Force is an indestructible phone, was dropped down concrete stairwells, thrown against walls and into pavement etc. Never used a case on that phone only a plastic screen protector. In the end, it had some scratches on the metal corners and scratches on the screen edges.Edge+ 2022 is a good phone. I'm bitter about being forced to buy it. Glad that I was able to get it for $500 on black Friday, would never have paid full price for it. This phone will wear a case and glass screen protector for the rest of my ownership. I'm also glad that people won't rob me for a Motorola. Will also never get the kind of trade in value for it either as Apple and Samsung actually hold value. Haven't dropped the new phone yet but I'm saving up for the screen replacement now.

In a previous review I lambasted Motorola for a failure in their promotional processes that resulted in frustration and an additional (and unapproved) $160+ charge, 30 days after I had successfully completed my end of their trade-in process. As far as I know, That process remains flawed BUT my review DID catch the attention of Moto's customer care team and over the course of a few days Moto issued a credit for the over-charge. As for the phone itself, it's everything I had hoped for when trading in my Edge 2021. (I have now owned all three Edge versions, 2020, 2021, and 2022) The specifications and performance are all as advertised. I did expect a certain amount of marketing hyperbole but true to the claims, the speed, clarity, and quality are certainly worthy of ... MoreIn a previous review I lambasted Motorola for a failure in their promotional processes that resulted in frustration and an additional (and unapproved) $160+ charge, 30 days after I had successfully completed my end of their trade-in process. Other reviews will take swipes at the camera but I simply do not understand those criticisms. While I have never owned a Pixel (the camera leader?), I have owned Samsung flagships and those cameras have nothing over the Edge's camera. If not for the recent over-charge frustration, I would have been happy to award the phone 5 stars. Adding in those recent frustrations (now resolved), I must take away 1 star but the phone gets a solid "5" with the overall experience a high "4". As I did on my initial review I will sign this as "Moto Victim" but as the title indicates, Moto's support team has made the correction and I am a victim no more.

Good but there are a few issues
16 January 2023

I've had several Motorola higher-end phones which did not disappoint and this one doesn't either, but there are a few issues. This phone doesn't have a headphone jack, and a dongle adapter is no longer supplied. Using an aftermarket dongle adapter causes audio to come from the phone's speakers when it's unplugged, even if the audio app has been shut down, necessitating the audio app's kill. Also, there seems to be an issue with screen sensitivity, in that on swiping up to close an app, if the swipe isn't perfectly vertical the app refuses to close and presents the 'clear all' button. Sometimes it takes a few pokes at something to get the desired action. For the first few days of use, battery life was abysmal but apparently the phone worked through those issues and ... MoreI've had several Motorola higher-end phones which did not disappoint and this one doesn't either, but there are a few issues. For the first few days of use, battery life was abysmal but apparently the phone worked through those issues and now it's very close to the Edge I had previously, which was very good, so that issue has sorted itself satisfactorily. Charging the phone with the supplied charger is much faster than the Edge I had previously so that's a real plus. I also appreciate Motorola's staying very close to stock Android. The Moto app's Make It Yours options are welcomed, but beware the icon and text resizing for the home screens, as it destroyed my home screens and I had to rebuild them completely from scratch. I would appreciate a more aggressive security and software update schedule. Overall, a do-buy recommendation.

I really can't see why anyone would want to spend more when this phone is so highly capable at this price point.- Rapid charging in about 15 minutes. So quick in fact you have to be careful that you don't leave it plugged in for too long.- Battery Life. With the power saver function on the battery easily lasts me over 2 days with moderate use (the phone is turned off at night).- Camera. A flat screen might be slightly preferable but the curved one is fine also.Overall, this is excellent value and highly recommend.

Loudspeakers are special for music lovers like me and I have been living with this problem since the phone went through those software updates. Those updates destroyed my loud speakers. Before the updates the speakers sounded as good as the speakers in my Moto edge plus 2020 or better, but after the update they sound as bad as the speakers in my lg g8 thinq. Its so upsetting

Fingerprint in power button makes it easy to open phone when it's installed in car cradle.

MOTO EDGE+ ROCKS

Got this to replace a Samsung s22ultra with a demolished screen. The repair cost was crazy. The edge + was on sale and was on par with the samsung except for the zoom camera and water dust proofing standards. That said this phone rocks. My cell phone reception is better. The samsung would loose signal in the back end of any store. The edge has a signal you can call on. The Samsung would only show two or three wifi spots when you turn this function on while the edge+ shows 14+. All my past Samsungs were just as bad with reception issues also.It feels like the operating system is smoother and the functional layout is much more user friendly.Motorola has always been weak about system updates but it has no effect on the use. Their site says this phone will get android 13 and 14 at some point.I also got my mom a Motorola to replace a samsung she had and all the things I outlined above also went on with her. She live in a fringe area. Our calls use to get dropped, poor video call quality, and voice breaking up sometime. Since she got her MOTO we never drop a call and video calls are clear.I have become a Motorola fan after this purchase and will only by a moto from now on.Samsung may have bells and whistles to shine at you But MOTOROLAS operation and signal quality trump eye candy any day.

Professional Review: Wicked Awesome Phone!
15 March 2023

Awesome phone, blows my iPhone 13 Max Pro out of the water, and I am super happy to be back on Android!! Apps run better many more to choose from. This phone charges in 15 minutes to full, last few days, it is light and takes awesome pictures, and has 10 times the features iPhone has. I caught it on sale, so it cost half the price. Apple holds you hostage and makes it almost impossible to get your data off to Android, this was a major challenge. The screen, compared to apple, is mind-blowing, my eyes are not blurry after using the edge plus, unlike iPhone. The list is so long why this is a better phone and I just do not have the time to write them all down. This phone is lightning-fast and can handle my heavy workload and heavy gaming. Even the $100-watch battery ... MoreAwesome phone, blows my iPhone 13 Max Pro out of the water, and I am super happy to be back on Android!! Apps run better many more to choose from. Even the $100-watch battery last 15 days and apple still does not do that!! Apple is way way overpriced!! What a joke!! The edge is very very similar to the Huawei, so close it really makes you wonder if Motorola teamed up with them secretly. The Huawei was the best phone I have ever owned and the longest. I get a new phone every year and have done so since smartphones came out. I was a die-hard Samsung fan until they did the rounded edge. If you want an awesome phone at an awesome price, this phone is for you, nothing else even comes close!

This could have been great - I love how Moto's skin is minimal and leaves the essence of pure android as is while adding more value. That part is great.Although the back is polycarbonate, I liked it. Finally a phone you don't feel back not having a case (and it makes it much less bulky, easy to deal with the size ... I hate large phones and this one was ok because of that). So why 1 star? Updates - security patches, etc. I didn't research enough until after - I thought moto left their abysmal reputation in the past - nope, they are still way slow to deliver updates, skip them sometimes and don't live up to their promises.I couldn't connect my work account to this phone as the security patch was too old. I think the limit is 120 days or something like that? Ya. ... MoreThis could have been great - I love how Moto's skin is minimal and leaves the essence of pure android as is while adding more value. I think the limit is 120 days or something like that? Ya. Like 4 months - moto promises bi-monthly - so that's 2 skipped updates. Not okay.I returned it as moto's poor execution of timely security updates meant I literally couldn't use this for the main use-case.
