So I haven't been the best about reviewing, I spend enough money on clothes and gear from REI and plenty of other outdoors and hunting stores that I really should start reviewing more gear.I first found Smartwool over 10 years ago when I got myself a baselayer midweight quarter zip, shirt. I love it, and to this day it's one of my favorite articles of clothing, miraculously holding shape and integrity after all these years. That said, I've always liked their products, and obviously R&D pulls their weight for the entire merino industry.I just put these socks on half an hour ago, and I can already tell I'm going to love them. Merino doesn't need to be washed after every use, I frequently wear my merino socks for a few days total. After I have worn them (except for some brands that need a little dryer shrinkage love) I drape them over the side of my hamper to air-out, and will reuse them after a day with a different pair. These socks (along with some more cheaply made ultralight merino socks) will be in my daily work, and workout routines going forward.Keep up the great work Smartwool! If I have any problems with these, I'll quickly change my star rating, and update the text with the issues.

I consistently bought Smartwool socks because they were the only type that reduced feet sweat & were smooth & durable. I think it was the former Run PhD socks of previous years. This new material feels like every other synthetic sock on the market & makes me feet feel like they're on fire & sweat like crazy. Got five pairs for Xmas & planning to donate them all. Smartwool, please go back to how you used to make socks. These are terrible.

After a lot of research and an email to Smartwool, it was recommended by Smartwool that I get a large (I wear a size 9 shoe). Well, the large sock is way too loose and slides around when I run. So, on my next Smartwool purchase, I bought a woman's large because Smartwool said it would be smaller than a man's large. Although it is a tad smaller, it still slides around in when running. This all bums me out because I don't have the money to waste on socks. So, if you are a men's solid size 9, I would look elsewhere for socks which is a bummer because I really wanted to love these and not burn my money.

Smartwool has been the only brand sock I wear for years. Always has been worth every penny. Until now. These are thin and flimsy - they will not hold the shape and do not fit your feet. The reason to buy quality socks is that they will really fit and help reduce blisters. These actually slip down and the corner seem was unraveling before washing them. Pulling them on - if you pull them up a little rough - the corner splits apart.I have socks from smartwool that have hiked 100's of miles and do not even seem worn down, let. alone unravel or easily split at the corner seem. Even the unpadded thin socks. Please go back to manufacturing the right quality. PLEASE!!!!
Less expensive high polyester content socks from Target were a constant source of stinky sweaty feet and athlete’s feet for me. So I splurged on these $20 high content merino wool socks and after a month of wearing these I am really pleased with them. Sweaty feet and athletes feet is non-existent. They wear well and don’t shed like cheap Target socks. I wear them for two days and then wash them but only air dry them. Worth every penny so far. Buy 3 pair and get 10% off at REI.
The zero cushion sock is well made. I have purchased many socks that are synthetic fiber, cotton blend and found during hot weather runs, my feet may be dry BUT... the ball of my feet are burning, no joke. I always try something new, shame on me. Today purchased another 3 pair. I have purchased these in the passed only hope the material is the same as was (3) years ago. I posted a picture and you see the sock on the right (inner side) is very smooth so...No burning feet.I wear these to run weekly races from 10k -1 mile.
I've taken these out for 2 runs and they ABSOLUTELY keep your feet nice and warm. I normally run with standard polyester running socks (from Decathalon - Kiprun 500) that I don't think too much about. These feel like they get warmer throughout the runs in -5 degree celsius weather, which is a nice bonus on longer/wet runs.I am a size 9 mens and the L size of these socks run a little large (the range is size 9-11.5). I think a M size would be fine, but I'm not sure.I will still keep wearing them, they just have a small fabric bulge in the heel.
These wool socks aren't just for cool weather. I comfortably run in them in 80 degree weather. The "targeting" of the cushioning basically means there's cushioning where it should be, and none where it shouldn't be. From my personal experience, they don't fit quite as well as the crew length targeted cushioned socks, but you just have to occasionally adjust them after lacing up. Like 1 time out of 4. It's not really an issue. These are now the only non-crew length socks I wear.
I am a Smartwool fan and have many pairs of their socks. But these socks are not up to their usual high standard. The first problem is sizing. I am a Euro 45, which falls between L and XL on the sizing chart. I purchased two pairs of the XL. It was a mistake. They are so large the heel ends up in the middle of the ankle. The second problem, these socks do not grip your feet. As a result they slide down below the heel to your instep when in use. I forlornly hoped, they might shrink in the wash, but no luck, they are still too large all round. Clearly, a large size might have been better, but their very thin construction, they are advertised as thin, indicates a lack of foot grip might still be there. Disappointing. Luckily, I purchased a pair of Balega Hidden Comfort ... MoreI am a Smartwool fan and have many pairs of their socks. But these socks are not up to their usual high standard. I've been buying and wearing Smartwool socks for 4 years at this point, and I won't wear anything else! All their socks I've purchased are phenomenal and do exactly as they claim, and I have a variety of different types from this brand. When I first started wearing them I noticed my feet feel warm (but not too warm), cozy, and comfortable all day long. I never have any moisture, and my feet maintain that clean feeling all day, like you just showered and dried them! They're really amazing, and whether you're wearing them in frigid temperatures or hot summer weather, your feet stay dry, warm or cool (depending on seasons), and comfortable every moment you're wearing them! The socks also dry very quickly if you happen to get them wet--these are all properties of Merino ... MoreI've been buying and wearing Smartwool socks for 4 years at this point, and I won't wear anything else! The socks also dry very quickly if you happen to get them wet--these are all properties of Merino wool and the nature of the fabric! Smartwool socks are extremely durable, and I've never worn any kind of hole in them--even the pairs I've had for 4 years!!!! In contrast, I tried some Keen Merino wool socks at the same time I bought my first pair of Smartwool, and they quickly wore thin and developed holes! I'm not paid by any company for this review, and it's 100% honest! This particular pair of Smartwool socks is fantastic! I have 2 pairs of them now and they have the perfect cushion where you need it, which reduces bulk, and maintain all the listed properties above that I described. I couldn't be any happier with this brand! I actually bought these as a replacement to a previous pair that had a warranty issue (no brand or product is perfect), and I followed Smartwool's instructions to file a warranty claim, which came through within a couple weeks, and I soon had the previous pair replaced. I own in excess of 20 pairs of Smartwool socks, and this was the only time I've had an issue, which was competently resolved in a sufficient manner of time.#sweepstakes
