Pros: A very sleek design from SMEG giving it the old retro look. I bought the SMEG Chrome and white version that really stands out in my current kitchen. Functions include the soft touch lid opener that lifts the lid smoothly and the adjustable chord winder on the base allowing you to use only the chord required keeping the worktops tidy. The kettle itself comes to a boil fairly quick under a mini for 4 cups of water. It's not as noisy as some of the other kettles I've had so thats another plus. It's well insulated and keeps the water hot for a fair while. CONS: The water gauge is hidden by the sleek handle which means you have to tilt you head. The kettle it'self is a little on the heavy side . Maybe some finger grips on the inside of the handle could improve the ... MorePros: A very sleek design from SMEG giving it the old retro look. I love the look of this kettle. It's like Italian made art on my counter, very eye-catching. Makes my counter look clean & sleek. Easy to fill, button top automatically raises lid, all the features you need, reliable boil temperature every time, identical blue lit on-switch like the toaster. Sturdy handle for pouring, no drips, seems better insulated, not steaming up my kitchen and I like I don't have to struggle awkwardly when it's full putting it back on the base in a specific direction, it swivels, so easy. Quality and design top-notch. Canadian Tire only sells cream colour, but it's very stylish. Get it on sale and activate & stack those Triangle offers to save more!

Pros: Makes excellent filter coffee. No drip design when the carafe is removed. Surprising number of features that I wouldn't have expected on what looks like a relatively simple filter coffee machine including, start timer, water hardness selection, beep mute option and coffee intensity which varies the speed of hot water dispensing onto the coffee and pauses the dispensing as well to allow the coffee to brew slightly longer in the basket. The 4 cup coffee option I initially thought was something to do with the speed of water dispensing if only 4 cups of water was added to the reservoir, however it actually only dispenses 4 cups of water as well even if the reservoir was topped up to 10 cups.I use disposable paper filters instead of the stainless mesh basket that ... MorePros: Makes excellent filter coffee. But you get used to doing it with your left hand. The shape of the carafe whilst it looks nice, doesn't allow the last few spoonful of coffee to be decanted without completely inverting it. Only noticeable in the middle of the night but the fluorescent display does emit a low buzzing noise.

Beautiful and practical, my favourite ever kettle!
15 March 2023

I am so pleased with this kettle, I felt a bit nervous spending this much on a kettle but I am entirely satisfied with it. It works perfectly, pours very well, is nicely robust and solid whilst not too heavy. The handle is well designed so the kettle is comfortable to hold. I like the button to open the lid. The water gauge is a little more difficult to see than on my old kettle as it's under the handle but it's fine, and does look nicer there in my view. I bought the pale blue and love the colour, so pretty. I was worried the kettle would look enormous but it doesn't. We have had it several months now and I'm very happy with it. Would definitely recommend.

Pros: Variable temp is really useful, even for black tea I can set it to 90 degrees to save on time and energy with no impact to brew quality (tried with both loose leaves and teabag). Standard herbal tea bags can be set to 70 degrees (I typically leave these bags in the tea while drinking to let the flavour stew) so I do not need to add cold water after boiling (again an efficiency bonus).Very quick boiling time when only filling for small volumes e.g. 2 cupsAudio alert (which can be turned off) is not annoyingKeep warm feature have used once when guests were around and it proved useful.Cons: The top opening button somehow does not feel as premium as the rest of the design. Beautiful in white, great kettle, but some good/bad things to highlight;Good:Much quieter than our older kettle. Beautiful design. Really easy to hold with a very comfortable handle, the white indicator light when boiling is very elegant and looks great in the day or night (there's a slight animation to it that looks great as well... when boiling it's a very subtle flicker/wave - very good attention to detail/design) The flicker switch is very satisfying and also very silent (nearly mute) when it pops up (unlike our older kettle) The chrome design looks great, and the push button to open the lid is great - when you press the button it slowly opens so it won't flick any hot water at you, and it's a very wide opening for cleaning/adding water. It has a metal removable filter (other kettles are typically a plastic mesh that you'd have to replace, and most manufactures don't sell the filter so you'd have to get a whole new kettle if you just wanted the filter. The spout is fantastic, incredibly easy to poor. The base/stand for the kettle is lovely and makes the kettle sit above the table slightly due to the feet of the base, and there's a lovely spring/suspension when you put the kettle on it, which has a nice cushion feeling.Bad:The window for looking at the water levels could be bigger, or they could have put in a nice feature, like a button to press to light up the window temporarily, because most of the time you have to wiggle the kettle to see where the water level is/or just get really close to it. The kettle squeaks a little when you pick up and squeeze the handle. I think this is because the handle is a chrome plastic, but I also think that's more a design flaw by having 2 sides of plastic fused into 1 rather than just having 1 plastic piece fit to the unit. The weight is slightly heavy (this is a battle between durability/design & function, because you might want metal strong parts, which the unit has... however this will make it heavier, whereas more plastic parts would make it lighter, but this may appear to have less quality - altho maybe a bit more metal or better plastic design would be nice on the handle so it didn't squeak, which our older cheaper plastic kettle didn't)Extra info:The cable is whitish/grey, but this could be just for the white/light colour models. You can get so many replacements parts including the SMEG letters if they were to fall off, or the filter, and even parts for lid etc from the main SMEG website.

Kettle of the year!
2 October 2022

The SMEG kettle has been in use for approx 3 months. It has performed its primary function - ie boiling water - faultlessly. One litre of water comes to the boil in two and a half minutes.Pouring is easy, a strong and well located handle.Easy to fill with the lid withdrawn. The retro shape of the kettle is attractive. The slightly domed shape of the kettle ensures good stability.On/off switch is easily accessed and a bright light indicates power on.Only point of criticism is the level of water indicator. This is located directly behind the handle and in all lights it is difficult to make out the quantity of water in the kettle. Is it worth the high price? Well, it goes nicely with the SMEG toaster!

Two failures in a year
13 January 2023

We have had 2 Smeg kettles now. The first one just stopped working for no god reason, so we replaced it with another Smeg. This one lasted just 5 months before it began to cut out long before it reached boiling point. While we wait for the warranty replaced version, we are having to keep pressing the on switch and holding it down until the kettle boils. There is no replacement yet because it is out of stock! We are unhappy with the wait and are contemplating asking for a replacement. We will wait for a replacement because our previous experience with John Lewis has been good. Hope springs eternal!
