Best Googles out there. Period.

Finally upgraded my googles and am so happy that I bought these. The chromapop photochrmatic lens is amazing and is easily swapped out for the cloudy/snow day lens. Having had the opportunity to use both recently it really changes the day on the slopes especially in storm skiing weather. Fits great on my face and my helmet. The field of view is great albeit ever so slightly distorted when looking straight down but it doesn't bother me. I can make sure my phone and other things are back secure in my pockets. Would highly recommend if you have the money and plan to use them often. Changing lens is a breeze too and can easily be down in seconds. The included case and google sock all make this an impressive package.

I have been snowboarding for 25 years.I purchased my first pair of 4D Mags in 2019 in the everyday violet / storm rose lenses colors. These are the best goggles I've ever worn.Every other pair of goggles feels like you're looking through a tunnel or porthole. Not these, the field of view with the 4d mag is second to none. The Chromapop lense tech is awesome for contrasting different conditions and the lenses are durable enough to survive 4 seasons of tree runs with small branches smacking you in the face with very minimal scratches or wear unlike other goggle I've owned before (see picture)Just picked up my 2nd pair from Evo because they are on sale and I've always wanted the sun green mirror lenses! You won't regret these!

EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! AND THE GOGGLES ARE DOPE!

Good, but Overpriced
22 January 2024

This is a fine product. It has mag lenses, it has fog resistance, it has a headband which detaches, but it is expensive. And it's not expensive because it's better, it's expensive because it's over-engineered. the lenses them self need plastic lined around them to hold their shape which makes then lenses expensive, while other brands only have the magnets. There is a whole mechanism to detach the lenses which drives up the complexity of the glasses, and makes it more difficult to remove and replace the lenses. The band's detachment mechanism - while good - is also in the wrong place, which makes keeping it under my helmet's latch difficult. My 60$ pair of Outdoor Master performed almost the same. an additional $300 gets you marginally more field of view, more ... MoreThis is a fine product. Great for an XL face
29 January 2024

The condition tested the googles on where groomed and packed powder with a temp of 23° and overcast. I also wear glasses that are smaller than I normally where just for snowboarding.I thought the goggles had great color contrast. The photochromic worked well as I jumped in between the groomers and the trees. The definition was blurry looking straight down and towards the edge of the goggles. They also felt too large for my face. The Over the glasses fit (OTG) did not hold my glasses in place like I wanted them to. Just because you have glasses does not mean you need an XL fit. If you have an XL face I am confident they would fit well.

Great with a prescription insert
2 February 2024

I like this goggle very much. I’ve been using it with a prescription lens insert from SportRx with an anti-fog coating. Before getting the goggle and insert I couldn’t find much online about using them together, so I thought I would share what I have found using them in combination. One of the best things about the 4D Mag is you get an exceptionally large field of view without the lens growing to an enormous size. And besides the much improved downward “Birds Eye” vision, it’s also worth noting this goggle also has much less visual obstruction around and over the nose. [In the Smith I/O Mag for example, one eye or the other is often blocked by the goggle frame over the nose. In the 4D mag much more of the FOV is fully visible with both eyes.]I don’t have a very ... MoreI like this goggle very much. [In the Smith I/O Mag for example, one eye or the other is often blocked by the goggle frame over the nose. In the 4D mag much more of the FOV is fully visible with both eyes.]I don’t have a very strong prescription so I was able to have my insert made using the larger of the two size inserts that SportRx offers for the 4D Mag. The internal name they use for this larger insert is “Sugar Bear”. As you can see from the photo this insert corrects the vision for a remarkably wide field of view including nearly all of the hyped downward direction. And I have found it is really nice having the improved FOV -easier to check pack straps, pockets, and other gear, less tunnel vision, and better situational awareness on the slopes. The goggle has no air vents on the underside where the Birds Eye vision feature is and near the nose where exhaled breath can enter. This is a good feature in my view. And has a larger than typical area of venting along the top. That may make fog-free performance more dependent on using the goggle with a helmet with a brim (like the Smith Vantage or similar) that both shields the top vents from snow and also is designed to pull air out of the top vents. Perhaps using the goggle without such a helmet brim design accounts for a few users reporting fogging issues. Used with a Vantage helmet I haven’t encountered any fogging issues whatsoever for either goggle or insert. Even when snowing heavily while in up-in-the-clouds high humidity conditions, and running hot from exerting and being over-dressed. Pretty remarkable anti-fog performance in my opinion. Though I haven’t had the chance to test the combo yet in the most extreme high humidity, rainy conditions we often get here in Tahoe at the start of a storm. Conditions that only the no longer available TurboFan goggles have been able to keep me fog-free in the past.

Great, but not in wet weather!
7 February 2024

The size, coverage, and field of view are extraordinary.Chromapop really does make things look better. These are fantastic as long as you are not in wet snow/rain. The 4D lens takes on a lot of water between the inner and out lens. When it does you will not be able to defog or drain the water without waiting overnight for it to dry. I experienced this problem on their first use. It just happened to be raining. I have warrantied out my main lens for this problem. The included high visibility lens does the same thing. When this happens you cannot clean the water spots that form between the lenses once dry. The photos are of water inside the lens.

Leaks
24 January 2024

I've had these goggles for two seasons now. Generally they have performed well. They fit well with my Smith helmet an lenses are easy to change. However a major flaw revealed itself recently. I was skiing in a wet snow storm. The snow would melt pretty quickly as it landed on you. The snow hitting the goggles worked it's way between the inner and outer lenses, pooling at the bottom of the lens and soon fogging up. I stopped to clear the lens several times but the same thing kept happening. They perform well in colder conditions but for the price of these goggles I expected better. For this reason I cannot recommend them.

Only good for Groomer Days! Avoid using this goggle for deep powder conditions!
31 January 2024

I loved the look of this goggle and they work great when you are just riding groomers but on powder days it is terrible!! Everytime time I do a big turn and get a face shot of powder, the snow gets in between the lens. Then shortly after all that moisture will cause fogging and start to freeze. Once that happens I have to wipe my goggles at the top of every run. Terrible situation. They gave me my money back but I don't know what else to get. People with the i/o are having the same problem. The reason there's not more negative reviews is that most people wear these goggles on a non powder day and think they are great goggles (which they are in those specific conditions haha) But if they were getting face shots they would quickly realize this item is garbage.

Unparalleled field of view with the worst nose bridge ever made.
10 February 2024

How can Smith get it so right? And also so completely wrong? The lens, technology and field of view are unmatched. I can honestly say that compared to any goggle I’ve owned or tried on that these are as close to wearing no goggle as possible. But the nose bridge design and shape is so terrible. The regular 4D mag Nose bridge just doesn’t fit in any position leaving on either side or hard plastic against the top of your nose. Even basic goggles get this right. Yes you can get the bridge version of these goggles and solve this problem but You will get a significantly smaller lens which affects the field of view.
