It's the little things that make a difference. Fresh snow, a day off, and a helmet that prioritizes comfort and style right along with crash protection. The Smith Code 2 ski and snowboard helmet does it all. Zonal Koroyd and MIPS impact protection absorb energy in the event of a crash. The super-adjustable BOA 360 Fit System and a warm, knit liner let you customize the fit for comfort that lasts from first chair to last. Six engineered vents work with your goggles for fog-free vision, and a magnetic chinstrap buckle makes for easy one-hand operation. Not to mention it's nice and light, too, so you can focus on making turns all day long.

BOA works well, magnetic clasps work with mittens on.

I broke my last helmet after a fall so needless to say a new helmet was a must. My last helmet was a Smith without any bells and whistles but did the trick for years. This one
seems very nice. The BOA works well, even despite my large head (7 1/2 baseball size). I haven't tried to put it on over a thin beanie but it feels like that might be a possibility.
The magnetic clasp works well so far, no pinching and I can do it in mittens. I haven't fallen in the helmet so I can't really review the safety features. It has MIPS but I am not
sure if that is of material benefit or marketing, though the helmet certainly seems like it was built well.

My only complaint was the price, but I wouldn’t have wanted to pay less for garbage that would have ended up just collecting dust. Smith really nailed it with this helmet. And thanks for not putting a stupid looking visor on it!... Show more

With such a low profile design I was concerned about the goggles sticking out too far in front of the helmet but the IO/X are also tight to the face which opens up field of view more and matched the front of the helmet. These made a great pair of gear and I couldn't ask for anything better.I would recommend this be one of your choices if you're looking to try a couple.... Show more

Excellent helmet but No adjustable vents
28 December 2022
Fit well, may be a bit small but that was not a problem. It was warm despite not having a warm light liner as described. I was disappointed as the REI description stated the vents are adjustable and they are not, I even called Smith Optics who confirmed that on their website it does not state that they are adjustable. The REI Description says : AirEvac™ ventilation offers adjustable climate control via 6 vents; can be adjusted even while wearing gloves... Show more

Frustrated

I received this helmet as a gift last christmas and found out mine didn't come with a goggle clip. I thought it was part of the design until I looked further into it. I messaged support and was disappointed to find out they don't manufacture replacement parts. Other than this hiccup, the helmet is great and I love the technology in it.... Show more

Great choice for a mid-level MIPS helmet
11 January 2022
Overall this is a solid helmet, feels sturdy and light and is comfortable. If you plan to wear anything underneath (like a beanie), I'd recommend measuring the circumference of your head and plan for a possible larger size. The only downside I observed is that it doesn't come too far down your forehead. Again, perhaps measure your head and plan for a larger size. All in all, this is a great option for a MIPS helmet and I highly recommend it.... Show more

Great Deal + Superior Helmet
28 March 2021
I always hated wearing a helmet because they were clunky, but I knew that I needed to wear it for my safety on the mountain. I finally bought the MIPS helmet based on a recommendation, and in that same trip I wiped out straight on the back of my head. Thank goodness I was wearing my helmet, as it was a painful fall, but no permanent damage thanks to my MIPS helmet. I actually prefer this to a beanie now even for comfort. It keeps my head warm and you can adjust the tightness too. The buckle for your chin is really easy to slip on/off, and I never pinch my fingers because of the unique way the buckle works (almost like there's a magnet?). Anyways, love this helmet + highly recommend especially when it goes on sale!... Show more

Great style, great tech, no bueno for audio
12 January 2018
First, the good - this helmet looks and fits great (if not somewhat more snug than some of their other models). Smith managed to pack a lot of their cutting edge tech (i.e. koroyd, MIPS) in a low-profile package. As a former ski shop employee and longtime Smith devotee, it pains me to discuss the not so good: the design of the Code's supposed "integration" with Smith's branded wireless (or wired) audio chips is so poor, it's downright baffling. First off, there is no pocket for the audio chips to sit in. The audio chips are free to wander throughout the helmet lining and will absolutely do so if you set the helmet down on its top. Secondly, and worse - putting the audio chips in the helmet renders the fit of the helmet completely different. Like, if it was a properly fitting helmet before you put the audio chips in, it is not a properly fitting helmet any longer. At best, with the audio chips in, the helmet feels like it's stabbing you in the ears. No bueno. Smith should really avoid marketing the Code's ability to integrate with its audio platform.Ultimately, the Code is a good-looking piece of tech-filled safety equipment -- but if you enjoy skiing with some tunes, I'd recommend staying away from this helmet!... Poor goggle strap
9 January 2023
The Smith Code is a good looking helmet, I only wish the functionality was as good. The goggle keeper strap is a flimsy piece of plastic that is held in place by being jammed into the foam of the helmet. It stayed in place for less than a season and the goggles either slide down or up and off. Not good.Other notes: the profile is low in the back which can be chilly on cold days, and there are no adjustable vents.... Show more

Top quality
29 December 2018
I love this helmet. I tried several Smith helmets and this one checked all of the boxes. First issue I encountered was fit. I am in between a medium and a large. My head measures between 58 and 59 centimeters. I tried this on in a medium and it was tight, and didn't completely come down to cover enough of my forehead. Although it seated well with my Smith I/O Mag goggles horizontally, with no gaper gap, the goggles were sticking out in front of the helmet. I don't need snow accumulating on the top of my goggles. I tried the large. Much better fit. Seated perfectly in every way with my Smith I/O Mags. I do fit a medium in the Smith Maze helmet perfectly, but the Code runs a bit smaller. I love the modern and lower profile design. I don't look like I have a bowling ball or batting helmet on my head, nor do I look like an alien. It's a very cool, understated look. I also love that I can remove the beanie liner, and wear my own beanie underneath. I like it with the beanie liner too. I can actually hear people talking vs the really thick ear pads on most helmets which muffle everything. I appreciate the lack of vents. All those vents are nice if you have to hike a bit, but otherwise they just fill up with snow when you forget to close them. I have no need for all the vents. If I have to hike, the helmet is coming off anyway. The 360 boa fit system is outstanding. The other important issue obviously is safety. The combination of the MIPS and Koroyd exceed my expectations. As far as shell material, I prefer the in mold construction in the Code combined with Koroyd, vs an ABS shell like the Vantage has. ABS is harder, and a bit heavier. The problem with ABS is that instead of absorbing shock it deflects, which makes for a much harder impact. I prefer the energy absorbing properties of the in mold construction combined with the energy absorbing properties of Koroyd. I guess there could be arguments for or against either way. Just my preference. One last thing. The helmet is super light. Hardly know I'm wearing it.Overall for me, this one is as good as it gets.... Show more
