Bought these goggles as a gift. They didn't fit. Requested to exchange for IO mag XL. Because I was 8 days past the company 30 day return policy, the company would not take them as a return even though they were brand new in all packaging and purchased directly from Smith.com. Inflexible policy especially considering it is the holiday season. Tough luck.... stuck with overpriced goggles that are too small now.Product looks to be great and of good quality.Lesson learned: make sure the goggles fit the person they are intended for before their 30 day return window. The company is inflexible and unaccommodating for returns/exchanges.I guess it is back to Oakley for me.

After purchasing a Smith Vantage helmet last season, I switched to the Smith I/O Mag goggles this season. I was excited to try out my new photochromatic lens. I skied in the Smith goggles for six days -- three days in Montana and three days in Vermont in different conditions - blue sky, low light, snowing. I'm thoroughly disappointed with the Smith googles. I struggled to see contrast with the Smith goggles even when I switched the yellow low light lens. I compared the Smith Chromapop lenses and my old Oakley Prizm lens on back to back runs. The Oakley Prize lens provides significantly better contrast, definition, and sharpness. Sadly, I wasted $300 on a pair of Smith goggles that have been relegated to my boot bag.

I'm a beginner skier who had borrowed goggles in the past. In starting to build a collection of ski gear, I wanted to go for quality where it matters. The worst thing is to be scrambling and frustrated in cold weather due to poor quality gear. I have only been able to use them while cross country skiing in very cold weather and so far they are great. I also purchased a Smith Mission MIPS helmet and the goggles work great with the Smith helmets - no gap. Field of view is pretty good. I thought it might be a bit better, so be sure to try out the 4D model as well to see if they are a better fit for you. At the end of the day, I picked these based on reputation, so I doubt they will let me down. They will get a better test on a trip to Banff next month.
First the good: I like the palm camo design, and the lenses are of good quality. The foam seal material seems comfortable and good at moisture wicking. The swapping of the lenses is easy, and the lighter "STRM BLU SNSR MRR" lens lets in enough light for skiing at night with overhead lights at a resort and has a nice warm color tone. The sleeve is nice to store the goggles and additional lens. They are good enough for my purposes, just wish I had spent less (even with markdown pricing) considering the numerous drawbacks.The bad: These are definitely not what I would call XL size. They are advertised as OTG, but they definitely put a lot of pressure on my glasses in the temple area due to not being quite wide enough to fit the frames. My normal glasses didn't fit at all and I will have to use a backup pair that is less wide. The plastic clips that secure the lens to the goggle frame seem flimsy and likely to break in the cold if you don't baby them. There were several plastic molding scars and areas where glue was over applied to the foam, making the overall material quality feel low. The gap between your eyes and the lens is pretty big, which is a plus because it allows glasses to fit, but a minus because it means you can really see the goggle frame in at the edges of your vision. It especially blocks vision around the nose forcing you to tip your head down more than usual to see your boots. I saw other reviewers talk about the car dashboard effect, and while the green frames have less of an issue than the yellow, it is still present due to the thick frames.
I’ve been a Smith loyalist for years, both personally and professionally. These goggles were a huge letdown. They just don’t hold up to wet days without fogging up. It’s nearly impossible to prevent it unless you are diligently babysitting your goggles as if they were a toddler, in need of constant care. I’ve had numerous pairs of Smith goggles and glasses, and always love how reliable they are. On a trip to Canada, I ended up having to wear my dad’s $60 Spy goggles because I couldn’t get mine unfogged. For the price of these goggles, it’s super disappointing to see how they held up compared to a pair from Costco. I’ve recommended Smith to people for years, but this is a product I just can’t get behind. Save your money and buy a different pair
Purchased the I/O MAG goggles at the end of Spring and even purchased and extra lens for them, and then bought a new Smith Vantage helmet this Fall. There is a sticky substance all over the inside of the goggle strap that I thought might just cling to the helmet to stay in place, but instead it smeared all over the new helmet. It took a hour and a bunch of Goo Gone to clean the helmet. I just hope the Goo Gone didn’t hurt the helmet’s plastic somehow and doesn’t discolor it in the future. The strap is still a disgusting mess that I have no idea how to clean and I really don’t want to use it again and make another mess of the helmet, but I just spent good money on these expensive goggles. I really wanted to love these. The color, shape, fit, look, etc. of these are awesome but they completely ruined a weekend of powder skiing. The low light lenses fogged up instantly and became completely scratched when I tried to dry the moisture with a soft napkin. I went indoors for an hour to let them dry completely and they were a little better but then completely fogged again the next morning. I ended up taking them off and skiing without goggles. Thankfully Smith customer service was excellent and is refunding my purchase and accepting my return. Very disappointing product. Fo $270 I expect better ventilation and more durability. I'm going back to my $50 pair of Wildhorn goggles.
This review is specifically for the bright yellow Draplin "bumble bee" colorway.I really wanted these to work given the high discount from retail but I had the same problem as the other poor review. You can't tell from the photos on website, but the entire inner frame of the goggles is bright yellow, which causes weird distracting reflections. As the other reviewer called it, like a bad "car dashboard" set of reflections.It was also weird in that the reflections differed between bright sunlight where reflections weren't too bad versus in shade or shadows were the bright yellow reflections were really distracting.It seemed like a safety hazard for someone like me who rides in the trees a lot, so I returned the goggles.

I like the looks too but the fit was not good for me and the lenses scratch super easy. I feel like the frames are too curved and this left a big gap on my nose which allowed air to come in and hit my eye. I thought they would loosen up and be fine but they didn't after 2 whole days of skiing. As far as the magnetic lens, I don't think this is a big plus. You still need to press on 2 levers, one on each side, to release the lens, so not much of a time saver. It's good that it's extra secure, but at that point what's the benefit of magnets?
