After much research and watching YouTube video comparisons I settled on the Solis Perfecta Plus as my first espresso machine with an excellent price point. I could not be happier with my choice. It is small, compact, works well and the price was right. One of the key features I was looking for was a manometer to track pressure.I like the fact that the portafilter is not a naked filter as this avoids a big mess with channeling if you do not have the dosing, grind and compaction just right. As a beginner and using pre-ground espresso I am sure that is what I would have. Even with pre-ground coffee I am producing a very good espresso, but not quite what I taste at the local roasters. With using pre-ground espresso coffee I cannot get the shot dialed-in correctly. ... MoreAfter much research and watching YouTube video comparisons I settled on the Solis Perfecta Plus as my first espresso machine with an excellent price point. I had a very entry level machine, I mean sub-$150 type entry level. It had good features for the price point, but I quickly outgrew it. I started doing some research and generally narrowed in on the Breville Bambino Plus - it had the features I wanted(3 way valve, adjustable OPV), at a generally acceptable price point. However, I noticed a few posts suggested looking into the Solis Barista Perfetta, so I decided to look deeper. The first thing that grabbed my attention was the price point, especially considering the full set(everything the Bambino Plus has, with the addition of a manometer, which I consider a huge upgrade...and the water filter) of features and accessories included right out of the box. The more I looked, the more positive I felt that this was exactly what I was looking to buy. When researching it, I obviously came upon the SeattleCoffeeGear site, and noticed they had refurbished versions available for a price that made it an easy decision. I was unsure of what I was going to get with the refurbished unit, but it looks brand new. Shipping was free and fast. Set up was involved, but easy...but worth getting it right. I got my grinder dialed in to the non-pressurized basket, and when I tasted the first shot, I knew I had made the right decision. I'm sure some people will find something to hate and tell me it's terrible, I just don't think you can go wrong for <$200, it's unrivaled at that price point. With that said, I wouldn't be upset paying full new price for this machine either. If you want to mod the OPV pressure, you can find that information on Reddit too.Don't forget a good grinder is a very important part of your setup too!

For the amount of counter space this machine takes up, I give it 5 stars. It's slim and doesn't protrude from upper cabinets when not in use.For how it brews, I give it 4 stars. It's taken a while to dial in the amount of coffee and pack it so that the shot takes about 25 seconds to brew and dispense. I've also worked on determining the right grind of fresh beans. However, we enjoy that fact that it has a gauge which helps one determine these brewing factors. Did I pack the porto filter too tightly? Is there enough ground coffee or too much? The gauge is helpful in determining these details. For how it dispenses hot water to make an Americano, I give it 3 stars. The hot water comes out in bursts rather than a steady stream. Probably not unless space is a premium on their kitchen counter.

I needed to replace my former machine that last 15+ years and wanted another one that can use ESE pods. This one fit the bill and the price was in my budget. I have had it jut over 2 years now with just routine cleaning, descaling, and filter changing when the machine alerts me. As others have mentioned, the water filter is pricey, but they last me close to a year. I make lattes everyday and may not be the most discerning espresso person but am very happy with this machine.
I've had this machine for a bit over 2 years and overall it has been great. Me and my wife use pull espressos and use the steam wand at least 2-3 times a day. It's held up well and following the regular maintenance steps is easy. I'm more on the beginner end of making espressos so I enjoy the simplicity of this model and I really like the pressure gauge on the front. I love that it is compact and doesn't take up much counter space.A few minor inconveniences but don't bother me much are it does occasionally leak out of the back. I noticed this happens sometimes after I remove and clean the water tank, so may just be user error. If pulling numerous shots after shots (like when we have guests) the consistency of the pressure can drop even if using the same coffee ... MoreI've had this machine for a bit over 2 years and overall it has been great. We purchased the Perfetta to replace our 15 year old (often repaired by me) Gaggia Classic. We have had the Perfetta now for a couple weeks , about 4 - 6 coffee drinks per day. One of us drinks espresso or Macchiato, the other lattes. The unit has performed well. The pressure gauge really helps when dialing in the right grind, the thermoblock construction means we don't need a lengthy warmup period. There are a couple things to consider though- the filters are only available in the US thru Seattle Coffee Gear, at about $16.00 each. I ordered an extra. The unit can be programmed to work with and without the filter. If necessary , we can run our water thru a Brita pitcher but that isn't the case right now. Maintenance- descaling can be done any time, but you can only ... MoreWe purchased the Perfetta to replace our 15 year old (often repaired by me) Gaggia Classic. This is inconvenient if you are getting ready to hand your spouse or guest a coffee and suddenly need to stop and clean.
My newest addition - the Solaris Barista Perfetta Plus - is performing well and meeting expectations. It has taken a little while to figure it the right combinations eg fresh ground to which type of filter basket, but it’s all possible given the equipment and the set up, particularly the manometer. The machine just feels (and looks) well made, and all of the accessories feel solid. The steaming action is incredible - so much pressure. I watched a few YouTube reviews and tips videos to get a handle on the best way to operate, but it’s not particularly hard. All up, a great purchase and great value. And great delivery service from Alternative Brewing, shipping the length of the east coast in a very short time period.
A very solid machine that pulls wonderful shots. Takes some calibration, fiddling and dosing experimentation, but once you figure out your grind and your dosage you're in a good place. The one thing that's imperfect is that the torque one needs to loosen or attach the basket far exceeds the weight of the machine, thus you have to hold it down. And I guess that the warming platform isn't awesome (but you'd have to have it on for a really long time for this to be useful anyway). I am happy with this choice.
This is such a an incredible and underrated machine. I got it when on sale along with a baratza sette grinder and been using this setup for over a year. The shots I pull with it are a huge upgrade over my previous breville barista express. If you are shopping for an entry or semi pro espresso gear, I highly suggest this solis along with a good espresso grinder. Should still cost less than any 2 in 1 out there. Now here's a fun fact not mentioned in the description or any of the videos; "if you carefully leak the steamer using the steamer knob while pulling a shot, you can limit the pressure out of the espresso head to your heart's desire". This is essentially a budget way of having a "pressure valve adjustment" feature, it makes a huge difference in my experience ... MoreThis is such a an incredible and underrated machine. It gives you that much more control Over the pressure and flow, and could pull incredible shots with it.
I like it. After some experimentation it reliably makes very good cappuccino and latte and cortado. The water filter must be pushed in very hard until you hear a snap. That took me a while as I have very strong hands and didn't want to break the reservoir. The little metal cap on the end of the portafilter handle is just hot-glued on and kept falling off. I'll glue it back on. Other than that, a solid little machine and worth the money.
