A Stylish and Powerful Expansion: Sonos One SL Wir

The Sonos One SL Wireless Smart Speaker is a great choice for anyone looking to expand their Sonos system. The compact and stylish design makes it a great option for smaller rooms, while still delivering powerful sound. I recently purchased the Sonos One SL to use as surrounds for my Sonos Arc and Sub setup, and I'm very pleased with the results. The speakers integrate seamlessly into my existing system and the sound quality is excellent. Although the One SL does not have a built-in microphone, it still supports voice control through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant when paired with a compatible device. The speaker also supports AirPlay 2, allowing for easy streaming from Apple devices. Overall, I would give the Sonos One SL a 4-star rating. And good luck because that will happen daily so that Sonos make sure to get their app visit for the sake of their metrics. Because you don’t need their app for absolutely nothing. Very frustrated with the poor design.

The low end range is impressive from such a small unit. Mind you, if you want bass that’s earth shattering or more pronounced, youll want to get a subwoofer. But for a pleasant listening experience alone these will do just fine. The functionality is great with Sonos speakers as well. Setup is intuitive and rather quick. Fantastic sound, great stereo/surround flexibility
17 October 2022

I procrastinated about adding these speakers for some time - I know they're not the most expensive speakers money can buy but they're also not the cheapest. With various house-moves in the last couple of years and another on the horizon I wanted something that would give me an immediate improvement to what we had - a Sonos Beam connected to TV, games consoles and linked with Spotify - but with the flexibility that it could act 'now' as a surround setup (or just better sound) and in the future it could be split up across multiple rooms or added to with more speakers and a Sub. We also have various Alexa and Google assistant devices scattered around, including the Beam, so didn't want yet more gadgets answering back - hence the SL without the microphones was a better ... MoreI procrastinated about adding these speakers for some time - I know they're not the most expensive speakers money can buy but they're also not the cheapest. We also have various Alexa and Google assistant devices scattered around, including the Beam, so didn't want yet more gadgets answering back - hence the SL without the microphones was a better option for us. With the current space they occupy also not being the biggest, I wanted something that would sounds great whilst also being relatively inconspicuous - and I have to say, these speaker fit the bill from a size, appearance and sound perspective. Whilst we have set them up in what I would class as a fairly unconventional way (with an L-shaped sofa literally splitting the room in half and a One SL on a stand a each end of the 'L', complementing the Beam that sits at a roughly 45-degree angle in front of the sofa..) the setup works brilliantly. TV programmes are clearer and don't need the Beam as loud to give the same clarity and with the 2 x One added as surround we get great surround for the shape and size of the room. Cranking up the volume also provide a great bass boom which belies the size of the speakers, both the Beam and the Ones. We push video games (great for picking out where the action is about to hit you from), music - a mix of dance through jazz and classical - and TV shows/films and they all sound fantastic, especially those encoded in 5.1. There's been various occasions where background noises doors slamming or cars started have made us get up and check outside the house to confirm it was just noise from the television...... One thing I would say - we used Sonos' Trueplay to setup the Beam and it worked a treat; with the Ones....less so. It's probably due to the slightly eccentric positioning of the speakers, but I've found the sound produced to be far superior (for my own liking, at least) when I've disabled Trueplay and reverted to tweaks on the equaliser on the app. We also decided to buy non-Sonos speaker stands - they work absolutely fine, are fully adjustable and other than not being clamped to the stand they are exactly what we needed and less than half the price of the branded versions. All in all they sound fantastic and yes, I probably should've splashed out sooner. Looking forward to adding to the system with a Five and a Sub, moving house and deciding where to put them!

Great for open plan home / studio space
3 May 2022

I was specifically after something sleek/discrete for my open plan warehouse conversion. I am not too knowledgeable on the audio market overall, but I had done some minor research in to Sonos before purchasing. This speaker is great, if like me, you are wanting to use it in a confined or smaller area in an apartment space. However, I believe you can link up multiple Sonos speakers - so it's worth purchasing two if you are looking to cover more than 2 rooms. The actual speaker is super easy to use although it is a good 15 min process to get the app set up so that you can actually link it up to Spotify. I opted for the black as white can get grubby with lots of use of the controls on the top. It looks very smart, and I think it looks more expensive than its actual retail price. It arrived well-wrapped in its packaging. I solely use the audio speaker for music - I wouldn't be able to comment on how well the surround sounds works for Movies and tv shows. I would 100% recommend compared to any other brand for its purpose. :-)

Solid Speaker for What It Is

This is not a speaker for critical listening, but no speaker this size really is. I have 3 use cases in my home: single speaker, stereo setup, and HT rear channels. As a single speaker for background music, the speaker is fine. The speaker is small and unobtrusive. You can get aftermarket shelves that mount to your wall outlets to place the speaker. Great party speaker where you want music flowing thru the house. If you want fully sound, adding a second speaker and setting up for stereo is a great option. I did that in the kitchen and it is much better. The last application is as HT rear channels. In this application, they are disappointing. I cannot say how pleased I am with this product. I bought it to use with my Brennan B2. The previous arrangement was that I plated my Brennan through a Bose system, via a Bluetooth link. That was far from satisfactory for a number of reasons it isn’t necessary for me to explain here. First of all, for someone who is not technologically minded, nothing could have been simpler than the setting up of the Sonos - once I’d downloaded the app it practically set itself up. Secondly, the sound quality is fantastic - it would be great coming from anything, but to emerge from something so small is truly astonishing. Thirdly, and this is a Brennan-related comment, the use of the Sonos with Brennan is incredibly easy. Turned My House Into a Musical Palace.
19 December 2022

I wandered into a friend's house one day and was immediately surrounded by wonderful music. When I asked the source, she said, "Sonos." I'd never heard of it. But I made a mental note, and for that, I'm grateful! When I saw these speakers go on sale at Costco, I immediately bought two sets for my house. The investment is so worth the experience! Four speakers set throughout my house now allows me to use my SiriusXM subscription to stream music I love all day and hear it playing no matter where I am in the house. The sound from each of these little speakers is amazing to me! Much deeper and more vibrant than I anticipated when I first saw them. I plan to add some additional components when the budget will allow, and adding is so stinking easy that it's almost crazy ... MoreI wandered into a friend's house one day and was immediately surrounded by wonderful music. Open the Sonos App on the phone, power on the speaker, and wait for it to be recognized, authenticated, firmware updated, and after about 3 minutes, ready to go. The second speaker took longer to pair, and required at least one restart. Either way, it was a simple process and worked well. They weren't making sounds. Finally, it came time to balance the room sound, also using the App on the phone. The results were okay, but not great. I did the Sonos walkthrough a few times and never managed to balance the sound to my liking. There is no manual tweaking available. Whatever the App decides is what the sound profile will use. The result is that the rear left speaker seems much quieter than the rear right - and when watching films, everything exciting happens apparently to the right of the listener. Is it just my hearing? No, I rewatched a few scenes facing the wrong way and the effect is the same. I also swapped the position and the same thing happened. In this regard, the problem isn't the speakers per se, rather the App which doesn't yet allow customer preferences. If I hadn't run the balancing option on the phone, the default settings would have been much better. So I reset the speakers and went back to default. Problem solved.
