I have previously been using a wired home theater system with a five. One clips set up with a 12 inch powered subwoofer. My tower speakers were on the smaller side and when I upgraded my TV I decided to redo my sound system or at least my speakers. When I was buying my TV I saw the Sonos sound bar at Costco and thought I would give it a try I was expecting to be underwhelmed but I was pleasantly surprised at how much found the system put out I paired it with the rear surround speakers in my large family room. The only thing I felt the system was lacking was base given that I was coming from a surroundsound system with a large powered 12 inch subwoofer.I had red good reviews about the Sonos subwoofer but I was honestly skeptical that something so small with little ... MoreI have previously been using a wired home theater system with a five. Comparing to my previous setup with 5 speakers, sub and receiver, the sound (of course) is weaker, but when compared in size, you get quite a lot from such a small package and save a lot of floor area. I guess I can live with that :)The room is about 35m2 with high ceiling, just the ARC by itself would have been not enough, glad I took the SUB as well :) There is always an option to expand the system with back surround speakers. Considering play one or the wall picture style speakers from IKEA :)Had the speakers for couple of weeks now. So far so good. The only negative noticed is about the volume adjustment with the TV remote, it shows only + or - on the screen, no actual level. That you can see only in the app.

Bought this as certified refurbished. Total bargain. It is as good as new.I got this as a soundbar for TV and to replace my Hi-Fi and I was sceptical it would be up to the task. I needn't have worried, it is very good indeed. The sound is detailed and clear, speech is very clear and the bass is deep and articulated. I had to turn the sub down a bit because my living room is quite small but I am moving soon and the room will be bigger. I will be adding some surrounds also. The app is really easy to use and setting up Apple Music, Spotify and BBC sounds was straightforward. I connected it to my Samsung TV by eArc, this was straightforward too.The soundbar is quite big, slightly shorter than a 55 inch TV but compared to having HiFi seperates and speakers it is ... MoreBought this as certified refurbished. I have the Arc, Sub, and three Ones spread throughout my apartment. Love the sound quality but hate the app. If you have Spotify, you can at least play direct from that app. I however use YouTube Music Premium and therefore have to stream my music from the Sonos app as opposed to from the YouTube Music app. The YouTube Music search/playback functionality within the Sonos app is terrible. To be fair, I don't expect the company that builds my speakers to also make the app that I play music off. I would suggest Sonos stick to building speakers, and have their app only be for system setup, tuning, and control. Not playback. Everyone already has their own preferred sources for content. Let us use those. This could be mitigated if they just added bluetooth to their flagship products but I suppose then there would be sound quality compromises. But at least that way I would be able to stream any content from my phone. There are other issues with the app. Switching between rooms and/or groups of rooms is glitchy. The app often can't keep track of what speakers are playing what where. Also I have had zero luck getting the PC Desktop App to work on either of my laptops.I suppose I will just have to buy the ridiculously expensive Line-In adapter, and then also buy my own bluetooth receiver, if I ever want to make this already expensive system fully functional.I still recommend Sonos for the actual speakers and their sound quality. Hopefully the app gets better with updates. Just don't expect to be able to play everything you want through the system.(Note: I don't use Apple products, but if I did, some of these issues might have been addressed by using Airplay, which is supported. But I'm not about to switch over to Apple products for the sake of my living room speakers).
I purchased the Arc w/ Sub as a replacement for my slowly-dying Bose 3-2-1 system. First things first, if you're used to listening to your TV and/or music with a sub, DEFINITELY get the sub with the Arc. The Arc alone is a great sounder with a surprisingly large soundstage but it will not cover your low end frequencies on its own. If you're looking to upgrade from TV speakers alone, the Arc without a Sub is likely going to be plenty of an upgrade BUT I would hesitate to say the Arc alone is worth the cost. If you just need a soundbar to make your TV experience better, you're likely going to be just as happy with a cheaper store-brand or Vizio, etc.One of the main reasons I decided to go with the Arc was Dolby Atmos support. Will this single soundbar transform your living room into an immersive, surround-filled room? Not really. Especially if your room dimensions aren't the rectangle "ideal." I have a vaulted ceiling in my living room, and perhaps that's the main reason I'm not blown away by surround experiences, but I'm guessing I'm not alone in having an angled ceiling. If you want surround sound you're unfortunately gonna have to put actual speakers around you. The nice thing is you can add two Sonos speakers as rear surrounds in the future, but know you're not going to have those virtual rear speakers like the advertisements might lead you to believe. At the end of the day, I can sit on my couch and LOVE listening to the Arc w/ Sub for every second. I don't regret the purchase but I wonder if I could have found the same listening experience without spending quite as much money.
Moving from a serious audiophile set up,bi amps, pre and power amps,a very expensive turntable set up,large floorstanding speakers...to basically a sonos arc...Initially, whilst very informative the arc for me anyway lacked oomph, depth, bass etc..I bought the sub to go with it..it transformed the system but I thought could be bettered still..I bought another sub...yes I have 2 subs running with the arc..now we are seriously getting there...powerful, detailed, controlled bass lines, flawless vocals and midrange..a seriously enjoyable, believable, effortless listening experience..the audiophile in me still wanted more..so I coupled 2 surround speakers with the system...Important to state that my last set up was just shy of 30k ,in audiophile terms a relatively budget ... MoreMoving from a serious audiophile set up,bi amps, pre and power amps,a very expensive turntable set up,large floorstanding speakers...to basically a sonos arc...Initially, whilst very informative the arc for me anyway lacked oomph, depth, bass etc..I bought the sub to go with it..it transformed the system but I thought could be bettered still..I bought another sub...yes I have 2 subs running with the arc..now we are seriously getting there...powerful, detailed, controlled bass lines, flawless vocals and midrange..a seriously enjoyable, believable, effortless listening experience..the audiophile in me still wanted more..so I coupled 2 surround speakers with the system...Important to state that my last set up was just shy of 30k ,in audiophile terms a relatively budget set up but still more than able to deliver a fantastic sound stage etc...Now...at a mere 3 to 4k for the sonos set up I now have I am absolutely blown away by the detailed, powerful, and controlled sound it delivers..I am new to streaming my music and was/am a vinyl lover..you just cannot replicate the warmth of vinyl imo. However, the sonos allows instant access to all genres of music..in fact anything you ever wanted to listen to is instantly at your finger tips..I cannot praise this set up enough..I am absolutely blown away at how it performs...highly recommended if you are prepared to go all out and build the system...that said, for normal non audiophile folk the arc alone will more than deliver for you...Use this system as your power house behind your movies and prepare to make your sofas shake as the action unfolds on your flatscreen..In essence, sonos have developed a truly awesome product here that is sleek in design, takes up very little space,no wires, huge speakers, hifi cabinets etc cluttering up your room.It is child's play to set up and use.It is expandable..It absolutely delivers both musically and when watching movies etc.Opens up a whole world of music at the touch of a button..
We bought this to replace a receiver, center voice speaker, subwoofer, and two standup speakers for our home theater (we're waiting for two additional Sonos speakers currently on backorder, and those will be for our rear channels). We also use it for playing music from various sources. We did an extensive A/B comparison between the Arc / Subwoofer, and our previous system, before deciding that yes, we were going ahead with the Sonos replacements.Pros: the clarity is amazing. And the subwoofer is excellent and I haven't heard any distortion from it yet. The biggest downside is in the midrange, specifically for movie dialogue. It has a tendency to get a bit buried. To solve this, we overrode the room tuning built in to the app and EQ'd it manually. Tweaking the EQ and lowering the subwoofer a bit helped the dialogue dramatically. But know what would REALLY make it better? We are ready to purchase two additional Sonos One speakers (or perhaps the High Fidelity model) to act as additional front speakers and help the dialogue.But.... while you can group all those together, they do NOT work together as part of a home theater system. The Sonos app doesn't recognize two front speakers working in conjunction with the sound bar. (This, according to the tech support people I spoke with.). We're still very happy with the system overall, but this is a weak spot that I'm hoping it fixed with a future software update. If it's corrected, we'll buy two more front speakers from Sonos. In the meantime, I find myself often going back to the EQ settings to adjust the sound depending on what we are watching, and it takes a lot of steps to get into the EQ menu. Still happy with the purchase, but there's definite room for improvement.
Premium packaging and also very good looking product. The sound out of the box is not at all impressive. Needs serious tweaking from the phone app. But then is really outstanding. The sub looks especially good and doesn't really need to be hidden.Despite my efforts and searching on the internet I couldn't make it to work with YT Music. This is the reason I gave it only 4 stars. One other annoyance is that once connected to the TV I couldn't make the TV (LG OLED C2) to switch back on its own speakers or change the sound output device to the wireless headphones unless I unplugged the SONOS HDMI off the TV. Every time I chose another device for sound output it switches almost instantly back to HDMI ARC. We have been using the Arc alone on our OLED TV, and it works pretty well, improving the sound for our TV programs and certainly great for streaming music. But, I have 9 foot ceilings and an open floor plan. Sometimes, low, hushed conversation in a movie can be difficult to hear. I had hoped that the subwoofer would boost the quieter moments and provide greater texture for the TV audio. Nope. I literally hear zero difference. No one in my home has even noticed that I added the subwoofer (I did it covertly and then waited to see if anyone noticed - almost one month later and no one has said a word...). The setup should have been easier, but the RFID simply would not work even with my phone case off, so I ended up wrestling with the awkwardly heavy subwoofer in a cramped space, turning it over to decipher the tiny, tiny print of the serial number so that I could enter it manually. After that, setup was easy, but the failure of the RFID was really unfortunate. I continue to experience difficulty with Google Assistant and Spotify - despite installing both (multiple times!!), I cannot use voice commands for music, receiving a message that I have not yet set up that service. So overall, I am a fan of the Arc and would recommend that, but I am a bit frustrated with the performance of the Google Assistant and Spotify, and totally underwhelmed by the subwoofer.
For this combo, I would say that the sub is the star of the show the arc is mediocre at best.To begin I am very familiar with Sonos music speakers and already have six, basically three pairs in three different rooms. Two pairs of ones and one pair of fives, which I have been pleased with. I purchased the arc as I wanted to protect my investment in the fives that I already had in my living room. I added the arc and the sub. Adding the sub to the fives sounds great, the sub is tight and really adds good groove factor to the fives.I wanted to modernize moving from my more than 10 year old Yamaha YSP 900 soundbar to a Dolby Atmos sound bar or sound system. Adding the sub to the fives sounds great, the sub is tight and really adds good groove factor to the fives.I wanted to modernize moving from my more than 10 year old Yamaha YSP 900 soundbar to a Dolby Atmos sound bar or sound system. My current setup is the arc together with the sub and the fives as surrounds. I have to say that the arc part is worse in almost every way than the Yamaha except that it supports more modern formats like Atmos, also, now I have a sub.My original review would be that the arc was 1/5 for sound, with extensive room tweaking and also with the release of Sonos version 15.1 I would say that that it is now 3/5.Here are my issues with the arc:- it doesn't have a dedicated remote which is a problem because you often have to change settings between listening to music on streaming services versus watching TV. Currently in the app you can only preset how you want surrounds to sound between music and TV but no other setting. Also, it's insanely annoying that the volume adjustment and level is radically different between streaming and TV so be prepared for very large swings as you switch back-and-forth.- Dialogue tends to be stuck to the middle of the screen verses with my Yamaha where sound followed what was on the screen much better. (The Yamaha has 21x 1.5 inch drivers and 2x 4 inch woofers, the 21 drivers are spread across the entire face so I think it's very easy for it to position sound.)- The up firing speakers are too vertical, the throw / bounce distance is very short maybe 3 to 6 feet from the TV. Also, currently, Sonos has no surrounds with vertical drivers.- The arc has cut out completely when switching sources between streaming and tv, meaning the TV is sending signal, and the app is registering that signal is coming, but no sound comes out of the arc, or any of the other speakers in the room. This requires a complete unplug and reboot of the entire arc direct connected set of speakers to fix. The funny thing is that the arc is the one connected to ethernet and streaming is going on quite happily in other rooms via Sonosnet which is not impacted.- The arc is a fairly dark sounding speaker.- Trueplay was providing atrocious results with the Arc prior to version 15.1. My setup always sounded better with it off. I tried retuning probably 20 or 30 times and it always got the same result with the previous version.- You cannot choose a sound processing mode on the arc/app. Sound processing mode is determined by the TV.- The arc only supports basic DTS and not any of the advanced DTS codecs which is honestly ridiculous especially if you have blue rays, as many use advanced dts.I have the following placement recommendations:- You absolutely need to do the subwoofer crawl to best place it meaning play music with decent baseline and move it around the room and check how it sounds from your primary listening spot. Whether you use trueplay or not, it makes a massive difference to the ultimate sound quality. The good thing is that as the sub is wireless it's very easy to move around as long as you have a long extension cord. You can also do the same with pink noise and a mic.- Per Dolby recommendations front speakers should be at about ear height of a typical seated listener, I originally tried the sound bar beneath my TV and it never sounded more than atrocious. I got much better results by placing the arc above the TV and in my room it sounds orders of magnitude better in that position.- The arc seems to sound better close to the front wall my original placement it was out may be about 12 to 18 inches from the front wall, It sounded pretty pathetic now it's within a few inches of the front wall and sounds much better.Overall, I honestly don't think that the arc or home theater products are fully baked. I really like Sonos speakers for music/streaming and I really like Sonosnet as it tends to be very reliable in my house. I was looking at other home theater products from Samsung specifically the Q990b and from Sony the HT-a9, really the two reasons I didn't try those was primarily people having massive issues with connection drops, and secondly, my familiarity with Sonos, and wanting to protect my current investment it seems a little silly to have two different systems in my living room. However, I honestly can't recommend the arc to a new purchaser who doesn't already have a Sonos investment.
