Easy to connect, easy to set up, easy to use, easy to listen to, easy to live with. Hard to pay so much. If ease of use is what you need then this is the streamer for you, it doesn't have high Res, ' cd quality' 44khz 16bit is the best you can get, but if you just rip your cd's then you know that's good enough for most of us most of the time. The bonus on this streamer is access to the big music services, Spotify, Tidal etc and if radio is your bag TuneIn should cover most choices from mainstream uk radio, through authentic Greek radio to niche USA bluegrass. The sound is 'safe' and provides a fairly netural feed to your amp and speakers. Musical seperation is good if not spectacular and the bass and treble are well balanced. The on board DAC does a fine job but as this is a seperate you can add your own DAC.It all comes neatly packaged in a small square box with analouge and digital connections, and in any colour you like as long as it's white. So why no 5 star review? For just shy of £350 it's dearer than the Sonos 1 or Sonos 3 and seems expensive when you have to supply your ownamplifier and speakers. Also no high Res support, if you have a collection of high Res music then your out if luck it just won't play as the Connect doesn't down sample. Why did I buy? I have a good quality amp and speakers and most of my music is 'full fat' FLACs ripped from cd's, it links and plays nicely with the Sonos speakers dotted around the house and it's easy, easy, easy.

I have been looking around for one of these for a while. I was toying with the option of buying second hand from Ebay, but was confused with the Gen 1 implications. I found a new Connect online through a national high St chain at £259. I have brought products from this company before and their after sales support is shocking !!!I then looked at Richer sounds. I purchased my original Sonos equipment from them a few years ago and there customer service was superb. The Connect was £279 on the website. I then saw the price promise and emailed the store. I received a very quick response from Bradley who said that he would honour the price promise. I ordered the product and it even arrived earlier that Bradley said it would. It now means I can play vinyl from my Bang ... MoreI have been looking around for one of these for a while. I have good quality (old) amplifier system with cd, tape and record player and wanted to continue to use those media. I also wanted to replace other hi fi system elsewhere in house. Sonos looked like a good option and kids already have it. Connect allows me to hear music from all media in 2 different rooms -either same music or different in each room. I found sonos installation info a little lacking - refers to line out to hi fi but not much on line in to sonos and they only supply one lead but really pleased I bought from Richer Sounds. Their help was great. They took time and trouble to sort out which I don't think a department store or standard electrical store could provide. I bought the connect so I could play music from my dining room to speakers in my lounge. I had bought a sonos play 1 about 18 months ago and was using it to listen to the radio wirelessly in my lounge. However I wanted to expand and have a turntable to play my old LP's. after taking advice from Richer Sounds I bought another play1 and a connect. The connect links to the turntable and sends the sound to the play 1's in the lounge. The play 1s can be used as a stereo pair so the set up works brilliantly. Also the sonos connect sits in the sideboard out of sight and has no problem sending the signal. I feel the connect is a bit pricey but if you wanted to link throughout the house it would be more cot effective
I bought the Sonos Connect system so I could sign up to Spotify and play it through my current hi-fi system (amp and speakers). I wanted something that was good quality but didn't cost the earth or require a lot of additional outlay, and was advised by Richer Sounds that this was the perfect option. I think they were right. It was about £340, so more expensive than the Bluetooth systems (this one works through wifi, which is better quality), but it costs a lot less than many other systems, which can cost thousands. The shop (Cheltenham store) was very helpful in showing me how to set it up i.e. where to put the cables from the Connect box to the amp, and were incredibly patient when explaining it and answering all my questions...as I'm really not technical at all, ... MoreI bought the Sonos Connect system so I could sign up to Spotify and play it through my current hi-fi system (amp and speakers). Thank you Richer Sounds Cheltenham!
The Sonos Connect is a really important part of the Sonos product family, it gives you the ability to connect your existing sound system to the Sonos ecosystem. My personal use for this device is to connt my turntable to my Sonos system, its a good but expensive solution. The Connect has a descent DAC and a very simple setup process, the WiFi connection isn't great but it works well enough and I would advise you to use a wired connection.Another great way of using the connect is to with some nice active speakers, this way you can add amazing sound quality to your Sonos system without the need of buying the more expensive Sonos five.Overall, its a really good product, it would have been nice if the price was a bit lower (the reason for my low-ish rating) but ... MoreThe Sonos Connect is a really important part of the Sonos product family, it gives you the ability to connect your existing sound system to the Sonos ecosystem. My personal use for this device is to connt my turntable to my Sonos system, its a good but expensive solution. The Connect has a descent DAC and a very simple setup process, the WiFi connection isn't great but it works well enough and I would advise you to use a wired connection.Another great way of using the connect is to with some nice active speakers, this way you can add amazing sound quality to your Sonos system without the need of buying the more expensive Sonos five.Overall, its a really good product, it would have been nice if the price was a bit lower (the reason for my low-ish rating) but its sill a better than the Port in every way...
Good Points: The Sonos Connect forms part of a Sonos wireless network, so this review covers all of the following Sonos components which I purchased:2 x Play:5 (wireless speakers)+ Bridge (gateway to internet)+ Connect (gateway to Hi-Fi in living room)They are really easy to setup, all you do is download the free application onto your Smartphone and follow the instructions (it literally is "plug&play"). Once setup, they form a mesh network (Sonosnet) with your Smartphone becoming the controller (or remote control). You can also configure your Smartphone to log onto your Sonosnet rather than your home wireless router and because the Sonosnet is a mesh network then it has much better range than the wireless router, so I can now get good Wi-Fi coverage throughout ... MoreGood Points: The Sonos Connect forms part of a Sonos wireless network, so this review covers all of the following Sonos components which I purchased:2 x Play:5 (wireless speakers)+ Bridge (gateway to internet)+ Connect (gateway to Hi-Fi in living room)They are really easy to setup, all you do is download the free application onto your Smartphone and follow the instructions (it literally is "plug&play"). You can also configure your Smartphone to log onto your Sonosnet rather than your home wireless router and because the Sonosnet is a mesh network then it has much better range than the wireless router, so I can now get good Wi-Fi coverage throughout my house. The Bridge allows me to stream music off the internet and the Connect allow me to stream music to and from the existing Hi-Fi in my living room. Each wireless speaker and my existing Hi-Fi can stream a different channel (either internet radio or from the existing Hi-Fi) and I can create groups so that each device streams the same channel. This cuts down on internet bandwidth and also ensures that all devices are in synch. Additionally, I can place both wireless speakers in the same room and create "Left" and "Right" stereo channels. In terms of music quality, they are absolutely amazing, far better than I ever imagined. They have excellent clarity and bass, and they have more than enough volume to annoy the neighbours. The other thing I find very surprising is that with living in a village our internet connection is very slow (less than 2 mbps), yet the sound quality is fantastic and I've not noticed any impact to the computers on my home LAN.I've not subscribed to any of the subscription music services so I don't know about them, but the Sonos components come with the Tunein app pre-installed and this enables you to stream literally 1000's of free international internet radio stations.I'm very pleased indeed (so far) with these Sonos components and when I upgrade the TV then I shall be adding a Soundbar and Subwoofer to my Sonosnet.Improvement Points: In terms of "value for money", I think Sonos is rather expensive and if price was my overwhelming concern then I would have gone with something else. But something is only worth what people are prepared to pay and Sonos clearly know their market. When I first looked at the cost of the Bridge (to the internet) which is about £32, I couldn't understand why the cost of the Connect (to the existing Hi-Fi) is about £280. But Sonos are losing the sale of a Play speaker when customers purchase the Connect, so they want to recoup part of that lost sale by charging excessively for the Connect. Similarly, I believe the the Play:1 wireless speaker doesn't have a line out to connect an external speaker. I would imagine Sonos don't want customers buying the smallest Sonos speaker and then connecting a larger external speaker, they would rather customers who want large speakers purchase the larger Play speakers instead. So clearly Sonos are in total control of everything that accesses their proprietary Sonosnet mesh network (even indirectly) and they make sure they get the biggest bite of the apple every time.
It's the only option to stream YouTube music, as I've known so far. Easy to set up, but not as user friendly as YouTube Music app in my iPhone. Many features aren't accessible, such as airplay etc; a bit disappointed. I will say 7 out 10 on this device in 2024. If you have more $$ to spend, Sonos Port probably a better option, if you are stuck to YouTube music. For Spotify users, I think this one is perfect...but you will have many other options on different streamers.
John Lewis and customers who are interested in buying into the sonos ecosystem should be aware that if you do not keep accepting sonos's changing and increasingly intrusive privacy policy, that your products will become useless!I've had a sonos connect for nearly five years. Had recently bought a couple of Sonos One for kitchen and bedroom and quite pleased with those and when one of my Squeezebox classics died I started to look at the Connect as a less complex route to connect my NAS to my amp.Didn’t fancy the new Sonos Port as has only coax digital connect and my amp only has optical. Also not too happy with the price of that. But with connect being reduced to £199 I took the plunge. What a disappointment. It doesn’t support 9600 bitrate unlike my more than 10 year old Squeezebox Classic!!So the Connect is about as useful as a brick in terms of playback of much of my collection.
